Synopsis:
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, gives an electrifying performance as Samar Anand, a hard working young immigrant in the city of London, where he glimpses upon the love of his life, a gorgeous angelic looking girl, (Katrina Kaif). They meet and their bond blossoms into love with time spent together. Samar however meets with a serious accident, and Meera vows to God she will leave Samar forever if He allowed him to live again, their love affair ends as quickly as it began.
Samar angered with God and fueled with his love for Meera, declares War against Him. Samar Anand vows to walk into the jaws of death everyday as a challenge to God to keep him alive. Unfortunately Bollywood only feeds us the Uber-romantic 'soni kudi', 'mahiya ve', 'dil luteya' type of saccharinized version of that culture, that focuses only on romantic love. This would lead one to assume that all Punjabis do is woo girls and beat bad guys to a pulp, which I know for a fact is not true ( having been to Punjab). For once, it is refreshing to see the poetic, spiritual side of a wandering minstrel a la Baba Bulle Shah.

I feel bad because the songs of this movie got released at the wrong time. The year it got released, people were drooling over the songs of Chikni Chameli. But such a masterpiece did not receive such praise, remaining an underrated gem. AR Rahman was not even nominated for best music in Filmfare.

This song is based on a true story in Punjab (Punjabi forklore ). In which an old man was waiting for his son named challa who helped some people cross the river as he was a boatman, but never came back , no one knows what happened to him . Soon the old man gets tired of waiting and gets mentally ill , he asked people if they had seen him , he used to everyday go by the river and put his hand in the river hoping challa would come back , he used to laugh and cry recalling the memories of challa 😭 , soon the man left his home . Also he is saying jalla in the song which means mad , it's a reference to challa's father who went mad .

Almost been 10 years for this song and the film. This time 10 years ago I was finally speaking to girl of my dreams, whom I never told for 5 years before that I really loved her. Anyways, long story short, all the songs in this film ie. Saans, challa, heer they all contribute to mine and her love story. Sad to say 10 years has now come to end just few weeks ago and something that started so beautifully and elegantly, the same person has turned blind eye to me and has moved forward with someone new in matter of few weeks. These good old songs still make me wish I can just go back and relive that moment.
