    I like Tony not becasue of his swing that we all like or distance we all would love, but I like the character and the kindness of the man himself that conducts himself like a true gentleman with integrity and class.

    Love this video and this swing. One of the most efficient swings on tour. No wasted energy. Great impact position. Copy this golfers especially if you do not have unlimited hours to practice.

    Thanks. great video. Tony is a "hitter". His power comes from using muscular force to straighten the bent right arm in the downswing. The right arm, as it straightens, acts like a piston pushing on the shaft. Forward shaft lean into impact is a must. Straighten the elbow too soon and you lose the forward shaft lean. So there is an element of timing involved as to when to start straightening the elbow.
    This method does not require a huge backswing. The further you take the club back, the longer you have to delay the application of right hand thrust on the downswing. Hence Tony's short, compact backswing.

    Check out Tony's right elbow in transition and the downswing through impact....perfect. This is really a great source of power for him.

    Many of these greats have a noticeable forward press that they initiate their swings with. I'm going to experiment with it in my game.
    Check out Tony's right here, pretty obvious trigger to start the swing.

      Yep, Henrik Stenson, John Rahm, Jordan Speith, Alex Noren to name a few. Kind of pre sets impact for them I guess....back of the left hand always leading the club face.

      Forward press will definitely help shaft lean and compressing the Golf ball. Look at Tony's lead hand approaching impact, his knuckles are pointing down towards the ground.

    Is this an arms or body driven swing? Or just a beautiful symphony of both the arms and body?

    • @TheNYgolfer
      @TheNYgolfer Год назад

      Study The Golfing Machine. He is a "hitter". His power comes mainly from muscular thrust from the right arm as it is straightening on the downswing.

    It's his right foot at impact. Planted with a slight onward roll a la Moe Norman. This keeps his hips from being too active. I do the same thing, so does Dechambeau.🐈

    Could you guys interpret something for me? In the last slow-mo sequence it looks like the pad of his left hand/butt end of club is pointed at the target right before impact. He looks like he rolls it over in the last split second . Is this really what it appears? Is this a common mechanic for all pros? I feel like I need to get the back of my lead hand down the line long before this. Struggle with early release and looking for cures.

      That's exactly why he hits it far, he has a lot of lag. His clubface is actually open up until the club reaches the ball, then he turns, its not his arms but his body. Since that clubface is open for almost the whole backswing and it needs to close at impact, he has to use the strength from his lower body/hips to turn his body and bring his weight to the left side in order to close the face. He does this with a lot of compressed force that he ends up getting a lot of power out of that small microsecond when he turns. This does require a lot of timing and he is a fairly tall fellow with a slender body type. Not all of us will have that same mechanic.
      A good way I learned this was chipping. Set up with a very open club face, im talking about facing almost directly in front of you. It will feel and look weird. Adjust so that your body is slightly open to the target. Your subconscious will tell you that you need to close the face at impact otherwise you'll shank the ball. This will make you want to turn because your body knows that not turning will cause a shank. And since your body is slightly open to the target you'll want to end in a good position therefore.....itll force you to turn. Once you do this you'll notice how that mechanic works.

    He leans in his left side on set up, which is very unorthodox.. and his transfer of weight isn’t obvious because he transitions so well..

      He’s 6’4” and has ridiculous long arms. Perfect combo. Short arm swing but long arms so he gets width naturally. No hip turn going back loads a TON of tension in to that torso turning back at the ball. What a move this guy has.... F me.
