Nice review Gi-Shock-Go! I knew of this model already back in 2020 and it was planed for a 2021 release for the 25Th Anniversary but the pandemic and component shortage as well as the third party company Eiwa Corporation that manufactures the cobarion top bezel part (yes casio can not manufacture those since they have no experience with that very special metal) was unable to complete the task in time. Personally with this big delay I think Casio could have delayed it for next month April when the G-Shock brand will start it's 40'th year in existence so then it could have been both a early celebration start of this anniversary and also a 25 Th anniversary of the MRG brand but now they missed that opportunity!😮 There have been some health concerns raised over these models amongst some Japanese retailers because of the materials chosen both the DAT55 Titanium alloy and the Cobarion alloy as part of their mix contain the Chrome metal which is very toxic to humans. There is some uncertainty if this is a potential problem since it is locked in a alloy so it is unknown how much chrome can get released and enter the skin. The original manufacturer of DAT55 (commonly used in exclusive golf clubs and car parts etc) recommends DAT51 for close contact jewellery such as watches and eyewear since instead of Chrome it has Aluminium. DAT51 is almost as hard as DAT55 so a good replacement. Personally I do not think this is much of an issue especially not on the black model that are DLC coated. A substantial part of the high price (other then the standard MRG tax always added to MRG just for being MRG) is the high amount of man hours required for the assemble and polishing of all the intricate 25 parts of the bezel.
I pinned your comment… very insightful. I’m hoping someone also comments with some cool info on how many were made. Thanks for taking the time to post the lengthy comment
Went for the silver back in March 23 as G-SHOCK and I both shared our 40th so thought it was fitting. Since brought a 41mm sub date but yet can’t take this one off, love the auto backlight transition how it fades out so smoothly, the cold feel when you first put it on, the lightness also suits compared to the steels, close to a standard G-Shock, feels lighter than the 40th Anniversary 5040PG, definitely under the radar luxury in my watch box with all the other G’s it does blend in, used hard while gardening etc and yet to find a scratch but never been able to wipe so it doesn’t look smeary so you’ll have to share your secret on that one. Side note yours and the black/purple keep going from limited edition to regular mines always been listed as regular, number wise they only seem to list 10 at a time and take forever to sell so don’t think production is that high, heard they produce around sub 150 units a year across all three variants but don’t hold me to this
Amazing watch and interesting to see Casio enter the B5000 line into the luxury watch pricing category... and peoples reactions. Again and again we hear people saying "I could get a _________ (luxury brand) for that money!" but what has EVER really justified the pricing of those? The Todors and Oris' of the world have great design, finishing, materials, exclusivity, and especially brand recognition, but this MRG-B5000 has all those and if you'd like proof that G-Shock and Casio have brand recognition enough you can just sit back and watch every last one of these sell, most AT OR ABOVE MSRP!
A dream! This is also luxury, even if some do not want to get it. :-) A simple Submariner might cost $400 to make and sell for 9k. That doesn't bother anyone ... The people who buy such a watch are absolute enthusiasts. There are a hell of a lot of them by now. Even in Asia, the watches are sold so fast that you get dizzy. The watches are absolutely suitable for everyday use and can be worn in any (!) Situation. They do not trigger envy or are seen negatively. The wearers can enjoy their watch 24/7. Even a business leader can be photographed with it on the company photo. Also, there are no revision costs and the watch is a real companion. Nothing for status people, although even owners of PP, VC, etc. buy such watches in the meantime. The excitement arises mainly from the exclusivity. Not everyone can afford a premium G-Shock anymore. It's as simple as that.
Owner of this watch does not concern about depreciation in value nor its module is same as a 300 dollars model. If someone spends 4k on a digital watch, that is a rich person. I prefer the g shock design... its cool!
it is just amazing. gold plated materials mean long lasting work, watch like that you can use everyday with no service. simply beautifull. but also very expensive...
they broke it up into 25 pieces to enable the process of polishing it 100%. If it was one piece they couldn't do it. I got one a year later for 2800 bucks delivered from a auth dealer.
I keep finding it funny that people get angry about the price of a high-end watch that has pretty much 0 depriciation, while having no problem with $10.000 depreciation a year on a car. High-end watches are great. Bought an Omega in 2009 for $2800 and selling it now for close to $4000. And I wore it for 10 years. Difference between normal people and rich people : rich people spend money on things that don't depreciate. The real "price" of things is how much you loose when selling, not the money you bought it for. The world makes alot more sense when you understand this.
Another great video drop. That watch is beautiful but GOOD LAWWRRDD 4K. I had no idea that G shocks cost that much. Amazing watch. A lot of great materials used on that. Great review Chavo. Always bringing the 🔥🔥🔥
Lovely watch but I will stick with my stainless steel full metal square, same functions at a tenth the price. On the other hand, if I was in the market for a luxury timepiece, I would pick this over a Rolex because the finish quality is perfect and the timekeeping better than any mechanical movement or non radio synchronised watch. Casio have completely covered all bases with models that are functionally identical available at all price points from below $100 to $4,000. I think that must be totally unique in the watch market. Everyone can have the functionality at a decent price while aspiring to one day own a top of the line model.
.... Very expensive and overpriced for sure but if I ever see anyone wear one of these bad boys on there wrist they would get my full respect over someone wearing a Rolex or AP etc. When I wear my TVA I know myself pound for pound it's in a league of it's own no matter were I go.
Indeed. I see traditional square G-shocks as pure geek, purist watches. You know people that love them are computer/electronic/retro geeks. MRG wearers are just guys that made it to the Mr Geek level. :D
Preciosos modelos, pero olvidaron lo principal.. Global Positioning System - GPS..
Probably a watch for G Shock cognoscente to appreciate for the technical innovations done by the team to create this watch. Buying one though? Like many products these days, it is something for luxury/collectors market. “Luxury” models in other industries from Harley Davidson to Martin and the Fender Custom Shop have turned the loyal base off as their products start to become more about object fetishism than the mission statement of the product line. Don’t think so? G Shock squares were built on toughness, reliability and affordability - the proverbial watch “for the rest of us”. Would you use this one while working on your car or in the garden or on a camping trip etc? Exactly. Now, being a desirable (?) flagship in a line is not bad as such (even if it represents the opposite values of that line). What it is doing over time is pulling up the prices of the whole line. Personally I would prefer the G shocks stay true to their DNA and let the luxury object fetishists stay with Rolex et al and their “Yesteryear’s tech at tomorrow’s prices” scamming.
i think casio lost its minds pricing this . I can care less if a japanese samurai has polished it or not but 4k for this is beyond crazy . GMW-B5000 gets the job done
Agreed 🤷🏻♂️ I think Casio is Fishing for now to see how far they can go. 4k for this watch is Seriously Over Priced. It's more of a gimmick Spring loaded pieces for shock resistance no one wants to use or bang up on a 4k watch. If people keep Paying, they will keep making them. I like the Technology, but not for this watch, it should be in a real G-Shock designed to take a beaten.
hey, Im interested in getting this watch. How scratch resistant is it? Does the DLC Coating completely shield it from daily Bullshit? It looks like crazy scratch proof is it the case? What will it take to scratch the watch?
It still can get stratch but hard since it had diamond like carbon (dlc) coating on it unless u knock the watch really hard or else it won't get stratch easily.
I don't like the price, I don't like the idea to do a luxury copy of the little brother and I don't understand why Casio is insisting on milking the cow like that. Maybe is paying but for me is a betrayal of the initial concept of affordable but advanced watch.
Very expensive and the gaps between the bezel & pieces composing the case, it's more difficult to clean than the single piece metal case square g shocks and I'm not even sure that a so complex case structure is more shock resistant than the single piece metal cases... Probably, that bezel can be separated from the case, with a very strong lateral beat, but in the single piece metal square g shocks, bezel & case are a whole single piece and that's impossible, unless you destroy the whole case... the only features that seem really better than the single piece case square metals are finishing, polishing, dial details and scratch resistance... besides the sapphire cristal, not available in the cheapest metal models...
It's nice, I'd love to have it. Buttt, it's too much $$$. Can get a Tudor Pelagos or an Omega. i'd pay 2 grand, maybe 2500, tops. There are so many metal 5000 series and it can't be that different. Also, i think the more pieces, doesn't make it stronger, it gives it more opportunity for problems. a monocoque case would be even cooler. Also, black is going to get scratched so easily then you're going to be sad. If it was all carbon fiber, or ceramic and unscratchable, perfect.
I do not agree with the price. I could get 40 GW-M5610Us for that price. I'd rather buy 1 GW-M5610U & 1 Grand Seiko for that price. But even more, I'd rather just buy 1 GW-M5610U and 1 GW-M5600MG.
Great watch, but stupid technology to put into a watch people don't plan on banging up. This type of Technology should be in G-Shocks made to take a beating. No one and I mean no one plans on beating up this bad boy. I have all the Titanium Models but This is one I will no overpay for, because the technology it has doesn't make any sense to me. As long as there are buyers, they will keep doing what they do, Seriously overpricing their Models. Same Module as other Titanium's Right?
No body like the price but it worth every penni who can get it who dont just think in all tudors ánd mechanical movements the price is the craftmanship. Most Rolex have the same movement
Casio lost it's mind on the price, such a turn off. Putting the same 3459 module as my GMW-B5000. That's coming from an owner of GMW-B5000 ! Or I could be wrong.......maybe the 3459 module was finished and assembled by hand. And wait......USD4000 watch and Casio use spring bars on it's bracelet ? Can't even consider using screws ?
