  • @kathyn1343
    @kathyn1343 2 года назад +34

    I prefer the suede upper as I have a lot of foot problems and the oiled leather are too stiff and hard to break in. The suede are comfortable right out of the box and don’t cause any blisters. They aren’t needed any special care and haven’t gotten excessively dirty so I wouldn’t worry about that. They are also not very difficult to put on. Yes they may take an extra second but the comfort is worth it imo.

    In addition to suede shampoo, suede conditioner, a protective spray, suede brush and eraser , none of these maintenance items addresses oil spills (cooking oil, salad dressing, or mechanical oil). For that you need to have Saphir (Avel)Hussard Oil Remover. You may have to apply and set overnight 2-3 times depending how bad the stain is and how much time passed before treating but this stuff works! Shout out to Trenton & Heath RUclips channel for that tip.

    Thanks for watching!
    My video editing skills need a bit of improving!! 😅
    The Nubuck looks fantastic, but they are too floppy, which ultimately made them my last choice, since I like the rigid structure of the Birko-Flor, or Leather. This rigid structure makes them more like slippers to put on and take off whereas with the floppier Nubuck/suede, you need to bend over to adjust them and put them on. This could be a tripping hazard, or cumbersome for people with limited mobility issues.

    Got Suede. I don’t like them.
    I have size 47 M14 and they don’t make them anymore.
    I found a store with some old new stock in my size, but they didn’t have the dark brown (Arizona) kind
    I had used for 30 years. They did have the suede type so I got them. I got tired of bending
    down every time I put them on so I don’t even wear them anymore. I would wear them if the
    straps stayed open so I could just slip them on.
    Do you know of any way of making the suede stiff so they stay open?
    I don’t care if it makes them change color since I just use them around the house.
    I was thinking of soaking them in water or painting the straps with spray starch.
    Also I was thinking of sewing some tie wrap straps on the tops.
    Thanks

      Really? That's a bummer. I myself was disappointed as soon as I heard Birkenstock was going public. Shortly after, they of course cut the amount of time you had to make returns. Once a company goes public, they usually lose quality and service.
      I was thinking starch myself, or dehydrating the leather in some way. Suede is a looser grain however and I am not a leather expert

    chalk or nubuck block? i saw it can be used to take the wax of the "oiled leather" and then vaseline applied to them. Just use the nubuck uppers in house IMO they look sick. I have the oiled ones black for outside, and once broken in, it's like walking barefoot almost, comfort is exceptional. The insole i clean with my nails, might sound sensitive for the day and age we live in, but nubuck sander doesn't even touch it. I am at about the period where i will clean the uppers, i think it has some shoe cream/color from factory on as well, than some water repellant, or wax on it and they call it "oiled" fettleder in german, waxed would be correct in english.

  • @drygnfyre
    @drygnfyre 6 месяцев назад +1

    For the EU 45 you are demonstrating, I would personally size up. You have almost no space behind your heel, when ideally you want a little bit so your heel isn't touching the edge. It also looks like there is some wear on the front edge, so it looks like your toes touch it when moving around. As long as they fit and feel good, that's most important, but generally when between sizes (in this case you mentioned being between 290-300 mm), it's best to size up. In my experience, I've done this and have never had my foot come loose from the heel cup. You do have a bit more spacing all around, but it's fine. Conversely, I've gotten nasty blisters from the sides of my feet and toes touching the edges, because they rub and you get nasty friction burns.
    But just my opinion. What works for you is most important.

      Can't beat real leather, but the felt inner liner on the birko flor is very comfortable!
      I will say the real leather does look slightly more premium

      @@sivatej982 They both are, the leather will be a thicker cut in comparison to the thinner synthetic birko flor. Both can easily be spot cleaned with some warm water for years to come. You can always use leather conditioner on the real leather to keep them moisturized for years 👍

    I've read numerous comments that Birkenstock doesn't sell on Amazon but I can find them no problem, are those fake or is it made specifically for Amazon?

    • @Striker50_
      @Striker50_  2 года назад

      It may be that the sellers are third party people, and not Birkenstock being the direct seller.
      That of course opens up the possibility for fakes
      I personally like to buy them directly from Birkenstock website since they have a great stress-free return policy

      I wouldn't be able to give accurate advice since there are international differences that I'm unfamiliar withvin addition to gender sizing.
      I'd say go with the UK 8 since these are more likely to run a little small on the sizing.
      Also, see if they have free shipping or any at local stores near you so you can try on and see if you like the fit!
      Personally, I keep them strapped to the tightest hole and they fit perfect!
