Brilliant podcast. I’ve listened to it through twice. I hadn’t heard the Ira Glass (?) quote before. But that is so apposite. The first really big thing I struggled with was producing work that I liked. Its easy to like other people’s work but liking your own is whole different ball game. It takes time & it takes effort. When I was teaching classes & I covered this, my students would look at me in disbelief. I think that folk who are new to creative practice see the creative but ignore the practise! They indulge in a little magical thinking: each work produced is like Venus rising from the oyster-shell - fully formed & perfect. That doesn’t reflect the reality I know & mitigates against experiencing all the great stuff you have to go through to get to the other side. Looking forward to hearing more about My Art Practice.

Great conversation! Carolyn is just a ray of sunshine!! I think she's right about being attracted to art that is NOT like yours, in this case buying representational art but not making it much. Also, Mom is right about the changes in legal expectations over time influencing the post-sale control of art. Thanks for sharing!
