What I don't understand about tech like these legs and the ones that help you lift heavy objects is that the weight is still on your body. With the legs, it's lifting them but at the expense of your hips. Isn't it just moving the problem to a different part of the body? Wouldn't it need to push off the ground somehow to actually do anything?
Well they can help with contraction of muscles and its the bones that will hold some weight in position. But yes, the weight doesn't disappear and bionics themselves have weight so any muscle that is in use and is not supported will just tire faster. I was highly confident Zac will lose again..

Not really it would just work as a extra joint and the more joint you have the more pressure can be dispersed, so the pressure goes hart on the extra leg joint if he is using it smart and it help you lift the object with eccentric power so fighting the negatives, so it's not moving you up but stopping the down as a deceleration so negative acceleration. People who are generally stronger humans make more use of generally eccentric power and not just explosive power. So the legs does not per say take endurance running and gives him more endurance running power but more like takes his level of endurance running and add's the power of a powerlifter to his legs without adding much extra weight that a powerlifter would have and so normally lose the power to weight advantage.
This is something that is overlooked at by a lot of sci-fi. You would need a total frame to LIFT more without your body collapsing under the weight, but in this case the exolegs are using force to help lift his legs faster, if you are trying to lift your leg and someone else is also lifting your leg with a rope at the same time its easier. Any kind of assistance like these just reduces the strain your muscles go through moving, which lets them move faster and longer with less strain. It makes moving his legs easier by assisting in the hip movement of walking.

Do bear in mind the pro was not the least serious in this challenge. With all the goofing off, signing autographs, and Zac cheating with the vehicle ride, he still lost. In a more serious race, the gap would have been immense. That's not to say the tech isn't insane as it clearly is. But, as a marathon runner myself, I knew from the start there are 2 parts to the equation and the second part, conditioning, is what would lose Zac the race. Bionic legs are a great help in a speed contest. Much less so in an endurance one. As a decently average marathon runner, I'm not sure ME wearing the legs would've overcome the pro.
