I did bulb in planter pots and I will just add that late spring/early summer gets hot so be sure to mix in some absorbing soil types or additives or you will be watering your containers 3 times a day to prevent them from drying out. Also, terracotta pots are pretty but they wick moisture fast. If you are going to use them maybe block the bottom hole and add a layer of pebbles so some moisture stays there for a little bit. As long as the bulbs are not sitting in the water they will not rot. Their roots will work their way down to the little reservoir of water you have at the bottom. Good luck gardeners! Springs is right around the corner.
That’s exactly what I did wrong. I am in zone 5b and planted a bunch of bulbs in both my gardens and a container last fall. I left the container on my front porch, figuring the bulbs needed a cold cycle. All of the bulbs in the ground sprouted in the spring. The bulbs in the container didn’t make it. I should have put the container in my insulated garage where I winter over my dormant tender perrenials. It doesn’t drop below 42 degrees in there. Live and learn….
I wonder if seeds of alyssum would germinate for you in the white theme? Give a more full groundcover for and help soften the edge of a container. Then the color scheme of the other could be possibly matched with a trailing johnny jump up. I dunno? Just crossed my mind as I was watching. 🤔
I have never understood this method for ephemerals…won’t the emerging tulip’s (or deepest planted bulb)foliage push up the smaller, less deeply planted bulbs? I know the smaller bulbs usually emerge first, but eventually, when the daffs or tulips or allium grow, don’t they take up so much room, that the other bulbs get displaced?
So are both Triumph and Darwin tulips available with and without the virus that causes the striations in the color? I have always focused on the Darwins because they are truly perrenial, while others require a certain amount of annual replacement.
The way you tell the story through this video is so engaging. Thank you for sharing this experience!😍😍😍😍

I cannot wait or see the result!!!
Thanks!
Great method! 🌿

Deer love to eat tulips, too, so I make welded wire fence cages for each pot to protect them from munchers.
Awesome!! I want to do this …If I can find $100 to buy a zillion types of bulbs to plant in a layered lasagna pattern in a pot or two. 😮

I could be wrong, but...
I'm thinking the bulb named XIT
is pronounced EXIT,
just written in a stylish way.
