Back in the day I never imagined I’d be jealous of a girl’s shop. Wow, was I wrong. The school teacher in me is thrilled at what you are doing. You’ll be an inspiration for young girls and women for many years to come. Thank you for sharing your passion.
WB Fine Woodworking I’m a 42 year old dude and started building 8x20 shed after watching her vids..
Speaking as a professional electrician, I have been dreading this video. You shortened your light cords to fit the ceiling outlets, and you curled your receptacle wires so the screws could pull the wire in instead of push it out. Well done.
I’m impressed and a little ashamed that I doubted you. The shop looks awesome! Thumbs up!
Congratulations with your new shop almost finish, thank you for sharing your amazing video
Congratulations!!! I have been a big ass fan of Big Ass Fans for many years. I used LEDs in my shop for lighting. I have 16 fixtures that put out 9000 lumins per fixture so I can see OK (even though I am legally blind). The only problem is welding. When all the lights are on, it trips my auto darkening hood. Good thing I wired them in strips with a switch for each. I am very glad you are happy with your shop. Now, more projects.
Getting so close! Love the excitement you have about every step ! Looking forward to seeing years of creativity from your new space!
We recently refitted a very dark & dingy warehouse with Big Ass high-bay lights & the result was fantastic. Great product & a very good company to deal with.
April this series of videos is so so incredible. So positive. Brands involved but not over the top and just your gorgeous passion on display for doing what you love. Really really awesome :)
: ) Well thank you, I really appreciate your words
Congratulations April!!!!!! It's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !!!! PANOS from Greece.
Love the old truck. Reminds me of my grandfathers oldie.
You make hard work look so do-able and do it with a sweet cuteness that’s adorable. I can hope my daughter turns out like you!
Proud of ya, April. Hard work paying off.
: D Thank you so much Jay. That means a lot to me.
Does this means you guys will be back on the podcast?
+April Wilkerson Genia, te admiro! Please come to Argentina! kisses!
April, very nice your new shop! Congratulations! I hope that you make a lot of good projects there!Leo from Argentina.
Just bing watched the whole series. AAHHHHH. I want to build a shop SO BAD now. Love the lights. Who am I kidding, I love everything about this. Amazing job. This is really the dream and it's great to get to live vicariously. Great job!
Awe April it's amazing - I love watching your progress videos and you've worked so darned hard you are a total inspiration 😍
Cody is a very lucky man. April, love your shop. I see many awesome projects being created in it.
I’m so amzed how do you have all this patience to build a huge shop as this one good job 👏
Love all your video's and your explanation of how you're doing such and such, so that your followers can learn and know exactly how to follow your footsteps. You also have a very cute personality your body expressions are priceless. "So you want to know what 13 fixtures at 13,000 lumens looks like?" Me too!!! We can tell your sooo excited about your shop. Congratulations!!!
*This has been such an awesome series, thanks for putting this together and bringing us along!*
: D Of course, I'm glad you've enjoyed it.
April, You are crushing it. It is an awesome shop. Congrats on all your success.
My new favorite shop quote: "Just the right amount of crooked."
Agreed. Awesome. That belongs on a Wilkerdos shop t-shirt.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! The tools are finally going in. I sure she is really excited!!!!!!!!!!!
"Added the lights. I am so amped up about them." GROOOAANNNN!! I had no idea April was a dad.
Hi April: Long time viewer. I am glad to see you left sufficient wire leads when installing those ground-level power outlets. Here's an FYI, an electrical contractor friend told me that 10" from the box face to the end of the stripped lead wires is what code requires. I trust what he said is true, but I am not an electrician. Keep up the great work and stay creative!
Yeah!
I was looking for the "Happy Dance," when the lights came on. lol
Good for you, Good for you.
I was looking for the "Happy Dance" too. April you look so thrilled, like a kid on Christmas morning. Good for you! Hope I can build one near as nice once I get out of the burbs.
Super jealous of this shop. One thing i would recommend, if you're not already thinking about it, is to put in a chain hoist at your large doors. This will make unloading your truck so much easier when you get new shop tools or bulk materials.
Watching from San Diego, CA
Not watching this right now, saving for when I'm building my shop. Just dropping by to say I'm happy/excited for you and your future content from your new shop.
That little giggle right at the end...I think that sums up exactly how excited you are to be getting closer to the finish of this. Like a little kid at christmas :)
No plumbing/water on your shop?
Looking great! My dad added a plexiglass door to the front of his cabinet that holds the speaker with a magnetic closure and it works great and has added a little protection.
Bummer on the power. What would it cost to rent a large diesel generator for two months? Also add a generator transfer switch so you could run all of your shop from the breaker panel rather than an extension cord. Just a thought.
It would be such an annoyance to listen to a generator all day. : / I think I'll just tough it out and work with the cord in the mean time. I will run a generator when I need to use my bigger table saw though.
I get that. Of course, you could always wear your IsoTunes. ;-)
Maybe at least put a 3 way splitter on your extension cord. I hate the hassle of switching out tools on cords...😑 shop is 🔥though! Im jealous! Lol
Hi April; You or your Electrician can add a temp power cord to your Power Panel main lugs to have power to your shop. Plug into the Generator running out side, away from the building to keep it less noisy. Love your new Shop!!!
It would also mean you don't have to stop working if you ever get a power cut.......
This what a happy builder looks like, good on you April
Very nice Great work April
You are doing a great job April, I really am envying the new shop!!!! Your Husband is an insanely lucky man to have someone like you to share his life with!
Those lights look great!
They should for $400 a piece.
Wow!
Mike Pomatto ah... now that is a point!
The BigAss lights are nice, I have two in my shop... but when it came time to add more lighting .. I got some LED high bay lights on Amazon (Adiding is the maker) 19,500 lumens, they draw 150 watts at 120v and they're dimmable! And... only $149 each. NIce bright 5000k color.
How can you not like her videos? Her jobs are amazing.
Play tunes from the RUclips Music Library on your stereo. Since it is already OK to put in videos, playing it in your shop should be just as OK.
Another option is "Copyright-Free Artist" There is a massive movement on both RUclips and Sound Cloud of Artist that produce music without a Copyright so it can be used by individuals like April Wilkerson at no risk. A quick RUclips and or Google search can lead to too some AMAZING ARTIST!!!
Its generally accepted that if you use the Artist work you should credit them for it. A simple comment of the artist name in the video and a link in the description to there work (YT, SC, or webpage) is acceptable. Most will have a Patron page if you want to directly support them.
An Artist Iv gotten into Is Neffex, I doubt there April's cup of tea but I think there Track "Fear" is one anyone can enjoy.
It’s amazing to have followed you from doing simple projects in your garage to actually having this HUGE workshop built from the ground up. It’s like watching life... learning, growing and expanding. Thank you for taking us along with you April.
COOL!
Hi April, I just want to say that I have truly enjoyed ur video's and I really like the way u explain urself, n give credit where it is due. The new shop is a miniiture Factory! very impressive with ur building skills n support from ur family. I think the lights r so powerful, that maybe u should put them on different switches so not to light up areas ur not working in, to save on electricity. It is a bummer that u have to wait for the power but ur resourceful n will manage. Thanks for sharing the building project n the videos, look forward to the next one.
Great, but where are your party/disco lights?
Awesome workshop! Thanks for sharing! )
About using extension cord while you wait for electric company: you actually can turn off the main breaker (and double check that it's off) and then connect your extension cord to one of the wall outlets with plug-to-plug short extension (and make doubly sure that it's not gonna accidentally unplug) and you'll have power in all of the remaining outlets and shop lighting.
"so amped up" xD - i thought my puns were bad.
Wezly no your puns are “ electrifying “ .. hehe couldn’t help it!!
haha yeah I caught that one but that's so bad I blacked out with a temporary memory loss.
thanks for reminding me ... :D
I could shock you with my puns, but I'd have to charge you for it. Electricity is my field of expertise. So it might test your skills of induction.
Ohm my word, what have i started.
I don't even know watt you guys are talking about, and I'm getting a lot of resistance when I request answers.
YAY! Those lights are bad ass! LOL I got chill bumps again when I saw them come on.
I am so happy that you included the footage of hanging your speakers. We are about to install speakers throughout our haunted attraction and now I know to put them on a shim!
That bites that you have to wait so long to get your electrical. Ours was a big ordeal too. At first they wanted to put the poles in our yard but we kept going back & forth until we got them to put the main power pole right beside our building. We only had to dig 6 feet instead of 150 feet!
Your shop is coming together. I am so happy for you. Thank you for sharing it all.
Your so cute most girls are excited with just getting new shoes or a new purse 👛 or even a new 🚙 but your so cute for your new shop awesome 👏 so happy for you can’t wait till your next video
Ps I hate waiting 🤗
Oh so envious! This space looks fantastic. My daughter and son are both excited to see your shop coming together. Thanks for the fantastic details and info as you go!
Did you consider solar power?
With all that footprint in that enormous roof, that is an amazing idea.
I been watching your videos for ages and have to say I would love a shop as big as yours.. Great videos, I have learned alot about woodwork, as I mostly love messing around with steel... keep up the good work
So you put a 10 degree shim in to fire the speaker down but then leveled out the speaker by the brackets? Doesn't leveling them out defeat the purpose of the angle?
Mate2Frio
I think she meant plumbed, not leveled. Vertically straight.
I plumbed them, so left to right they are straight but back to front they are angled.
Basically, she leaned them in both directions.
If she hadn't adjusted the second axis, they
would look lopsided.
steve
Great job April, I'm happy and proud of you and yours.
Hello April, as usual a nice video! 👍 About the sound @5:18, that is a common mistake....you can not let us hear what your sound system sounds like, everybody watching hears it through his/her own speakers. 😉😁 So all reviews on youtube on sound systems are useless, you really have to listen to it in person.
Wonderful job. You are blessed and probably tired too! Those lights. Wow 400 a pop. But that is what you need. Congrats!
Looks Great!!!!
; ) Thanks for all your help with the audio. I'm so happy with it. Although, I'm now thinking about adding in a few subs.....: D
April Wilkerson
Because... 🎶"It's all about that base, bout that bass, no treble"🎶
Not just big ass lights, but also some bright ass lights! Damn good work wilkerson.👏👏👏
Amazing progress in the shop! But did your professional audio guy tell you that corners are the worst place for speakers? Ideally they should be at ear height (or a little above) and on the wall about 1/4 wall length in from the corners.
thats why she angled them
Agree, terrible speaker placement as well as system design.
with that many speakers, 70 volt probably would have been better.
It’s a shop not a concert hall
ForestCat I used to do that placement but it seemed to loose the stereo effect so I pushed the speakers to the corners and aimed them at opposite corners to help eliminate hearing only the speaker in front of me when sitting off center. In the shop I wanted the speakers as high as I could get them to keep them out of the way and flipped them upside down to get the mid/treble speaker closer to head height. My speakers are more old school with a rather large box so I could flip them and get away with it. I can crank up the volume and play "White Punks On Dope" and feel like I'm at the concert all over again.
Those lights are SUPER BRIGHT! I think just one would be perfect for my garage workshop.
No bathroom. Thirty hours a month running back and forth to the house, not a good use of time. Shop is super nice, but no John. I call my john, Jim. Run to the jim.
Assuming she works 5 days a week, that's 20 days a month. You really think she'd spend 30 hours back and forth (remember, bathroom time won't be any longer, just travel). That's an hour and a half a day. Assuming she goes once every 2 hours (seems like a lot to me), that's 4 times a day to/from the shop for bathroom breaks. 4 times divided by 90 minutes = 22 minutes there and back. The average walking speed is 3.1 miles per hour (20 min/mile), so unless she walks half a mile each way to the bathroom 4 times a day, she is not spending 30 hours traveling to and from the bathroom. If so, maybe a porta poty would be cheaper?
More likely, 1-3 hours traveling to the potty per month. That being said, I am surprised she didn't install a bathroom.
Running a waterline down to her shop would be significantly more complex than running the electric lines/pole and much more expensive. From what I've seen, her property has several layers of solid rock just under the surface of the ground cover. Digging in a water line, at a depth which meets code and runs the distance required to hook up to water main, would cost a fortune! And...that's before you even factor in the cost of installing a septic system/line yet.
It would take YEARS before she would "break-even" on the water line cost vs time lost going to up to the house to use the bathroom. From a cost perspective, it would make more sense to buy a new Porta Potty and have it serviced, than install a bathroom. But honestly......the location of her shop gives her plenty of privacy to "Run to the Jim" out in nature. LOL!
NordicPhoenix she could put in a bathroom with just a composting toilet and maybe have an RV style sink that pulls hand washing water from a tank
I think it's so unusual how concern people are with my bathroom needs......
Agreed! LOL!
Big up sister good work and nice shop,u are such an inspiration I always recommend all the sisters is south africa who think that woodwork is for man to watch your chanel, and they are changing they way they use to think, Lots of love from me and the woodworking team is south africa we love you
: ) I love hearing this, thank you. I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
It really makes my heart happy to see you so happy. You deserve it and you will do big things with this gift. That little giggle at the end was as cute as I have ever seen yet you are more than tough enough to carry yourself in any situation. I wish you all the best April be safe and be happy. God bless you and yours.
I have been building small projects out of my garage shop for almost 25 years. What you have accomplished in just a few years is nothing short of amazing. I'm so jealous of your new shop. Maybe I'll get to build a big shop in my next life. LOL
I am suffering from shameful shop envy!! Great Job! Time to go back to my lowly garage. Love those lights!!
April, your shop is truly amazing.
So happy for you!! The bf and I are really loving this build! I yelled at him for watching this video without me 🤣🤣🤣 We’re now on an understanding that we watch this build together!!
: ) Haha I love this.
Those Big Ass Lights are very sweet! Pretty awesome to see how pumped you're getting as you get even closer to that finish line... looking so great!
That's going to be one awesome shop. You are inspirational. One thought that comes to mind, and maybe I missed it, but a coat of clear poly on all that plywood would greatly help to mitigate fire hazard.
For corner brackets for speakers like that in AV, we take 4*4 poles, turn them 45* on edge, and run them through a bandsaw at round 20* angles. Easier and cleaner than guessing the right amount of crooked haha.
Beautiful in there as it is going. And I am loving those shop lights.
Con grats with your new huge shop(s) both a wood and metal shop ! You lycky girl !!! Looking forward to see all the cool things you will build in there !
Very nice, congratulations and all the best in your new workshop. Greetings from Germany for you and your loved ones. We wish you all the best for the next projects !!!
Big Assed Fans and an old Square Body...lots to love here!
Wow amazing. If i could just flip my mini garage corner wood shop thingy into this awesome space. Gosh. I feel great just by knowing you have it. Congrats.
Its seems like it was other day watching your stud finder review! Been a fan since. You are an inspiration to the entire maker community, wood & metal alike!
I absolutely love your enthusiasm and passion. You are a pleasure to watch and learn from. Keep inspiring.
Even your truck is badass and vintage. Love your style, and well structured english ! > < Am i the only one who loves table height lighting ??
Great job April. Even though I'm sure you are tired after your busy days with this huge project I do see an extra smile with the completion of each phase. It must be great to have that blank canvas to work with, build it the way you want to, and put in it what you want to. I am really enjoying these videos; a little jealous, but living vicariously through you completing the project and enjoying the process. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the first full shop tour.
Багато важкої роботи, для якої потрібна велика сила волі, але результат просто дивовижний!) Дуже гарно бачити коли мрії втілюються в реальність!
Продовжуйте в тому же дусі і ви будете почувати себе найщасливішою!
Damn, nice!, my grandpa’s shop had an old 70s radio as a sound system and that’s the way he liked it! 😀
What a great job!!! For this Arizonan it was magic to hear the Mourning Doves in the background at the intro. I love hearing that sound in the morning. Best.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!! Congrats April. Looks amazing

You are seriously popular, lady. At approximately 2:15 this afternoon this latest video had 31,336 views. And now less than 9 hours later you have increased your count by over 100,000 views.
I've been enjoying the shop build, looking forward to seeing how you fill all available space.
Great video! Keep pushing and you'll finish your dream shop in no time!

Looking awesome April. You and the team have done a great job.
You are having so much fun with this build April. I'm so happy for you.
Thanks for sharing this experience with us.
Sweet. Just watched this to get inspired for my project. Off to paint the ceiling I go. Build a huge shop. Paint a ceiling. It’s scary how similar we are. Lol!
WOW April that is just amazing...You have built something grand you should be soooo proud!!
I just squealed and did a little happy dance when those lights came on! They look absolutely amazing! The whole shop is coming together so well! Congratulations and keep up the amazing work!!
Hi April, love the build and your passion for what you're doing. One small point on the music. Over here in Europe, any music heard being played in the background whilst shooting a video, meaning not being used intentionally to entertain, does not fall under copyright law or infringe any other law. I assume it's the same in The States. If you still don't want to risk, one can pay a basic royalty (costs peanuts) any you can play what you want. So girl, PUMP UP THE VOLUME 🎼🥁🎸
It's almost done!! Congrats April!!
All good things come with time. I’m sure you will find plenty to do while you await the power company. Great job!
So impressed with your get up and go get it done attitude ,,polititions could learn a lot from you .... new to your channel but so impressed keep going love it
The excitement on your face when you talk about your new shop is priceless ! Great job all around.
BLEEP!!!! I think my eyes exploded when you turned on those lights April... that is some powerful lights... have to look into maybe getting some of those for my Dad's Shop... other than that it looks like you have really been enjoying the building process for your new shop and hope you enjoy many more projects to come.
Wow April, what a nice big shop! It’s looking great!
You Rock April! Phenomenal shop.
Well done April the workshop looks amazing, not long now until you are cranking out the projects and videos. Looking forward to it. Great job on the videos on the workshop though.
Wow! Your shop is looking amazing... Can't wait to see what's next.
