      Putin appears to be using a 1960s Soviet BARS bolt action (normally 5.6×39 caliber - unconfirmed). Novosibirsk PO-4×34 and TO-4 scopes were standard optical sights for BARS.
      Additional: I read that he prefers a Saiga-12 shotguns (unconfirmed). There are several pictures of him firing assault rifles but not much video.
      People like to point out that most of his photos are staged, but 99.9% of the time… everyone is being photographed holding a rifle is staged.
      May God bless the USA and our services members! 🇺🇸

      There is a .356win that's designed to be a lever-action chambering roughly equivalent to .358win ballistically, but we all know that's not what he was talking about, lol
      That same series also produced a .307win, a semi-rimmed meant to provide .308win ballistics in a tube-fed lever, 1894. They never took off though... Then Marlin tried to do it again 30 years later with the .308 Marlin Express and .338 Marlin Express, which sold a bit better (I found a new production box of 338 Marlin on the shelf last week) but they were still a flop.
      I love old dead cartridges... almost every time a "new" cartridge is released, there are at least 1-2 others from past decades that did the exact same thing that had fallen out of favor. I think the 8.6 Blackout is the first truly new concept (thanks to the insane twist rate) I've seen since the ultra magnum revolver cartridge craze in the early 00's. "There's nothing new under the sun"

      This is what made Washington different and what continued to make America different. But half the country wants no guns... no gun or police to boot. A lot of older white woman who live with a big dog and big husband in a big gated community occupy 90% of the conversation and say how it is so silly to be afraid, what is a black person going to rob you? Meanwhile the only blacks she sees are those who clean the house and they pay so well that it really is not worth risking theft.
      When vocal minorities become the vocal majority it is bad....
      that is how th whole country thought Hillary had a 99% chance win rate. And how the master satirists, the South Park creators, had their whole season ready to mock Trump for his loss fucked up.

      @oddish4352 9 months ago +2

      There was a .356 TS&W at one point, another effort to recreate 357 ballistics in a pistol. It was a limited interest project at best, and the 357 SIG killed it.

    • @mfallen2023
      @mfallen2023 9 months ago +1

      @oddish4352 I forgot about the 356TSW... It's a shame too as it was a straight wall, just stretched a bit longer than 9x19, with beefed up brass.
      They should revisit the concept and try to keep the same overall length as the 9mm para. With newer alloys it's probably possible to go the "45 Super" route with 9mm, get similar (if not better) performance than the 357 SIG, while still being able to chamber 9x19 parabellum. Wouldn't need a bottleneck like the 357 sig/9x25 dillon/etc so you could keep the same frame size, magazines, etc.
      It'd still probably flop, but if designed properly you'd just need a full-support barrel/cahmber and heavier recoil spring to convert your G19, M&P, etc. I'd buy it...

    Fun Fact: Churchill was one of the biggest spokesperson for the Mauser C96 without his own knowledge.
    During the Boer War, he was sent to South Africa as a war correspondent and his unit, one day, was under fire. As he didn't have a rifle, all he had was his self-purchased C96 as officers back then didn't get issued with pistols or revolvers and your own sidearm are bought. To fight his way out, he used his C96 for days on end and managed to finally fight back to London. When the press did a public interview with him, he praised nothing but the C96 for it's robustness to take abuse, holds 10 rounds unlike the normal revolver that holds only 5-6 rounds and it reloads quickly with stripper clips too rather than reloading individual rounds into the cylinder.
    That effectively shot the sale figures of the C96 to the moon.

      @dataillusionSeriously?

    • @RequisiteFunction
      @RequisiteFunction 11 months ago +13

      @dataillusion yes it was semi auto. But it was an older design based on rifle physics. That's why the magazine area is in front of the trigger.
      It was replaced by semi auto pistol technology (not just in Germany, but everywhere it was sold) that allowed the cartridges to be loaded into the handle with a separate magazine, a practice which continues to this day. It allows for a more compact gun even if the barrel is longer. The c96 was huge for how short the barrel was.
      The C96 was largely forgotten about for a few decades, until someone noticed It was the same gun Hans Solo was using...

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 11 months ago +5

      @dataillusion The Mauser was a semi-auto pistol, the first of it's kind. However much better ones were coming.
      I've never been a fan of the Mauser C96, while an interesting and historic collectible it's far from a practical pistol compared to the Luger, Colt, and Browning pistols that followed by the turn of the 20th Century. Still, for a while it was "The only ball game in town!"

    • @dataillusion
      @dataillusion  11 months ago +5

      @wayneantoniazzi2706Being semi-auto was a step ahead from most other pistol, I would say that at that time it was one of the best pistols.

    Во времена своей бурной молодости, а я напомню, что Сталин был революционером, занимался экспроприациями в пользу революции, Сталин носил два пистолета Маузер 1910 г., к: 6,35 мм, с патроном в патроннике. В качестве верхней одежды он использовал армейскую шинель из плотной шерстяной ткани, Маузер 1910 достаточно компактный, что бы поместиться в боковых карманах. Открыть огонь можно не доставая пистолетов из карман, что очень ценилось революционерами находящимися в розыске.

    Putin has confirmed that he used a Makarov Pistol while he was in the KGB and very much liked that firearm. Based on his comments in the past on it I would not be surprised if he had kept his standard issue Makarov for all these years tbh. He probably carries it if he hasn't upgraded to something more modern. In many ways the Walther PP and clones like the Makarov were my absolute favorite firearms for carry and use up until very recently with more modern designs that have way better sights, rails and are MOS compatible. The Walther PP style pistols were mangable in recoil, had crisp DA/SA trigger pulls, and were extremely easy to clean and maintain. I still own a Bulgarian Makarov though only for recreation. I carried a Bersa Thunder 380 CC with Federal Hydra-shok and a spare mag for about 10 years. It performed flawlessly for thousands of rounds, was very accurate, and the Hydra-shok 380 had a lot of street cred.

The pistols are : a Colt .45 Single Action Army revolver with custom ivory grips…. A Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum double action with custom ivory grips and a Colt 1911 .45 semi-auto that is heavily engraved. Both his actual weapons and the movie „PATTON“ props are on display. The museum also has his weapons from his participation in the 1912 Olympics. His fencing gear is also there..he place third in the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games.
