I have been watching your video for several years now. I used your info to help build my giant scale war bird. It turned out fantastic!. Now I am getting ready for my next giant scale build and find myself reverting back to your tutorial for a refresher coarse on all the detail components for the electrical hook up. Power distribution etc. Thank you.
Nice presentation, and nice set up. I tuned in because I have not set up a plane like this in years and wanted to see what the latest on power management systems was, figuring a lot has changed, really pretty much the same, as it turns out with just more products around. One thing I want to mention, is, if you plan to fly a plane like this a lot, and not just two or four times a month, you will want to address wire management and rout all you servo leads etc. into a Harness of sorts isolating all wires from rubbing against formers stringers or anything else. I used small spiral wrap plastic tubing, tape, and small tie wraps as well as cable ties the kind you screw into wood and it has a small loop for the wires.. You would be surprised how quickly wire insulation wears thin.
This is the first time I have ever seen a summary of how these giant scale planes are setup. Super awesome overview man. Great video and much appreciated. Now I see why they are so expensive.
Thank you for pointing that out. The CG is a tricky thing with big birds, any plane with a symmetrical airfoil (like this one and most 3d planes) you can check CG in the air. You first trim the plane out and simply fly straight and into the wind, roll inverted and if the plane drops you're nose heavy, if it rises you're tail heavy. This plane was too nose heavy so I moved my battery packs back now it's just a tad nose heavy which is where I think it flies the best.
also the servos buzz because they are digital, digital servos are important to have for giant models. They buzz because they are constantly making fine adjustments to keep the gears straight which gives accuracy. The concern around binding servos (servos working against each other) is power drain. These servos pull around 5amps with stick input, so slight blinding with no stick input will result in amp draw flattening the batts quicker and in rare cases burning out the servos :)
Wing span 104 inches. Wing Area 1867 Weight 26 to 27 lbs Engine 100cc-120cc Since this video was take, I changed the engine from a DA100 to a DA120. Thanks, Voro.
Fuel myth is that the higher the octane equals more power. More octane will smooth and slow down the burn, so engines with higher compression or using a power adder such as a turbo or super charger will need a higher octane to prevent spark nock or worse preignition. Also if you want to run a more advanced timing you can use a little higher octane. So use a good brand of fuel and run 87-91 octane for the most power.
servo clips alone aren't enough to give me peace of mind. I put heat shrink over them after I bathe them in a glue gun lump, especially on the lead connections, so that over time the wires will not pull out from flopping around. also nylon washers all around, where applicable. they survive vibration very well. I also add a cross of thick plywood behind the firewall where the screws go through, glued and coated with Tysol. I also go around the seam of the engine box with a bead of JB Weld Kwik.
Fantastic work! Everuthing is fine! I'm watching it and think that I've done nearly the same like you, except double alierons servos on wings and tail, because I have no opportunity to set it! Thats It! Thank you for great video material!
I'm just getting back into rc I've been involved in it when you had to build you're self this is a great video and I learned a lot about giants so much cool stuff these days keep it up
Personally with a 30cc, I'd just go with an RX with a lipo and voltage regulator. Make sure it's a good quality RX with one possibly two satellites though. Also, make sure they are mounted correctly, far away from everything with the antennas crossing each other. Thanks, Voro.
Hi , pretty good video, what happen if one of the two servos is damaged while flying? Will the left servo do the job easily ? Let’s say the rudder servos or ailerons servos thanks you
I was looking at your last video it shows that it's been a year since you posted last I just got into watching your videos and subscribed I hope you come back and I hope everything is okay with you and your family? Please come back if you can I'm sure your fans that been following you want to know what you been up to and hope you're not gone because of something serious. You seem like a nice person and would hate to lose somebody like you and the community hope to hear from you.
I'm going with a123 batteries and no power expander through an AR9100 rx with a single 7980 servo on rudder. I like simplicity. less gadgets means less chance of failure. also going to run a hopper tank in front of the main tank to ensure constant fuel. don't like dead sticks toward the end of the tank.
Hi, this is really beautiful air plane !!! The date is relatively old ,so, I would like to ask if you this days have tried to use the stabiliser gyro like, Hobbyeagle A3 Super or Eagle Tree Guardian or Dualsky FC151 or any model. I cannot find any information if these equipments can work correctly with the Power box like Super Red or others. Please send me any information you might have, I''ll appreciate a lot. Thanks !
Can find em for $600 used on kijiji less engine, and $978 for the DLE 120cc engine new, getting into on of these for $1600 top end gear :) Nice when some one getting out of the hobby to scoop them up like that.
Hi GREAT video!!! I bought an edge 540 106" with a DLE 111cc. Awesome plane. It was already set up with Smart-Fly EQ10 power expander. I took the expander out and added a new spectrum 6 channel receiver and I used the 7.4 5000mah lipo regulated to 6 volts. Reason I took the expander out is because I was told the DX6 Radio wouldn't work for this set up. Anyway I balanced CG perfect and took it to the field and the first and second five minute flights went great. Then 2 minutes into 3rd flight it went crazy in and out of signal and then in the ground it went. Not sure what happened. Stating over fresh. New plane, New 9 channel receiver, new 9 DX9 and same EQ 10 with the super regulator and all new HT 7955 all the way, new wiring, and same engine. In your opinion is this a good route to setting it up??? I need all the feedback that can help thru this build. Im not a 3d flyer at all. I like to fly my planes like a CUB. Never inverted unless on accident. LOL. Please help. Thanks.....
How second build turn-out? Hope did not crash, first one sounded expensive? Saw a vid on spacer requirements, engine and exhaust when using mufflers cans, need to leave space between header and mufflers (2mm atleast ) chattering can cause RF noice. Good tips at "DA Australia" channel, ytube search DA Australia mufflers.
Hey thanks for the video. I had no idea that the giant scale R/C planes had like20 batteries in it, lol. If you don't mine me asking, how much do you have invested in this plane?
I have this same type Aeroworks 75cc plane. Got it used with no electronics. How much throws and exponentials would you recommend for control surfaces for my first flight?
dude super sweet vid even nicer plane just started this season ive went from foamy s to stick just finished my extra 330 with a 20cc dle but i hope by next summer to have a giant probably a edge540 ether aeroworks or 3d hobby-shop anyway thanks 4 the vid great job
Thanks a ton for a great Video, not forgetting the 3D flight school stuff too! One question, on the fuel tank, why do you have a long vent tube looped and going along the top of the tank? I have seen it on quite a few builds but never understood the reason for this.
Thank you for the long time support! I am actually restarting VoroRC and turning into a LLC and expanding into a ton of different things! The vent line is wrapped around the tank like that to prevent gas from getting into the line and letting the gas flow out while doing aerobatics. Thanks for the support! stay tuned! Voro
Thanks for your reply and for explaining that...makes a lot of sense...looking forward to seeing a lot more videos from you...Good luck with your new endeavors!!
Why don't you balance your ailerons to keep them neutrally inline with the wing? This would eliminate the servos from being over worked all of the time, just to keep the ailerons inline with the wing.
Between $3,000-4,000 depending on the quality of Power system and electronics you use. I'd highly recommend always going with high quality Engines and electronics. Thanks, Voro
they say that the new models do not loose signal but i believe it takes some time for the problems to appear, just like the oldest models. Basically some spektrum transmitters never had problems but others had from the first day.. I personaly do not trust spectrum. i have lot of friends that have spektrum and had problems. futaba T6J is far better than spektrum t6e-i as a result of my personal tests in real environment test field.
1) No gyro ????? 2) Have you given any consideration to going with an electric motor ? I understand that in giant scale, there are CG issues with that.
Awesome job nice video

Great walk through! I've never been able to see what all it takes to setup a plane of this size before. This video really helps give it perspective.

Very nice video. Super informative. Looking to get back into it and this video will help me tremendously. Thank you
Wing span 104 inches.
Wing Area 1867
Weight 26 to 27 lbs
Engine 100cc-120cc
Since this video was take, I changed the engine from a DA100 to a DA120.
Thanks,
Voro.
A brilliant and very helpfull series of videos, thanks for your time on this, looking forward to more.
Very good video mate, i will add that fuel filters are very important in the carb line
Very impressed and step by step look ture thanks.
Thanks a lot dude, I have learned a lot from this video and I can start to think about how to get my Sbach organised!

Yeah I will fly it this Saturday and have it out.
Good video. Takes a lot of the mystery out.
Knowledge is power and you sharing yours is great thank you.

Good vídeo. Beautiful
to all newbies on giant scale: ANY SCREW LEFT UNLOCKED OR CONNECTION NOT SAFEGUARDED WILL DESTROY YOUR PLANE.

What is the name of your ignition regulator, with the blue light?
Hi, I just wanted to know a little bit more about how to install the CDI and everything that goes with it.
Awesome video. Very helpful. Do you have or know of any Aero-works 106"edge 540 QB video's??? Thanks. Again awesome video"s
I agree with no radio mixing. My goal is to learn to fly the plane, not learn to program the transmitter.
Each plane is setup differently with the Pull-Pulls, most of the smaller planes to cross, and some of the larger scale do not.
great vid.
good vid lots of info
Thanks for your help..
Hey thanks for the video. I had no idea that the giant scale R/C planes had like20 batteries in it, lol. If you don't mine me asking, how much do you have invested in this plane?
I don't use any type of mixing for any moves, Just manual stick movements.
Great video would of liked to see it fly
So awesome
I have this same type Aeroworks 75cc plane. Got it used with no electronics. How much throws and exponentials would you recommend for control surfaces for my first flight?
HI.
To make sure the line never kinks.
Thanks,

Bad bird and awesome internals
Would a 6channel receiver be enough for such a giant scale plane?

I have a DA 100 but I may trade to an EME 120 and add a tuned pipe. Wouldn't a tuned pipe on the DA 100 be about equal to a DA 120 with stock exhaust?
13:35: No kind of switch should ever short out (= create a shourt cirquit = connect "+" and "-") the wires leading to it.
Is this your first big model? you do always cross the pull pull, I'm sure it would tell you in the manual to do it.
very good, how much this plane?
what mixes on knife edge and will you use any aileron differential? I'm setting mine up for precision free flight.
Hi, do you think that I should put a power box and power expander in a 30cc aircraft?
Thanks a lot.
is the ignition connected to de receiver as well? or what is the configuration you use?
I am new to this and am trying to figure this out myself.
What kind of fuel line are you using
Thank you.
Thank you
How do you provide power to the ignition?
Hi,
I have seen in a lot of 3d planes that you run a loop with one of you fuel tank lines.what is the purpose of this?
thanks
gr8 stuff.. i think you have missed the most important thing.. The CG.
you didn't cross the the rudder pull pulls....?
airplane fuel leaves a lead residue on your cylinder. I've seen that first hand on my cylinder.
Vororc i can use a Dx6 in 50cc 3D ? ..i hace
a 78" Extreme flight
Just started looking at your video and noticed that you are saying to use 2 cell packs when you show a 3 cell pack. Why?
Dwayne
Whats your opinion on the use of that tech aero ibec?
who makes the powerbox
Why don't you balance your ailerons to keep them neutrally inline with the wing? This would eliminate the servos from being over worked all of the time, just to keep the ailerons inline with the wing.
The type of servos are super smooth running so when there is no power they just hang like that
how did you set up your tank?
Ballpark price what it would Cost to get that plane in the air?
Between $3,000-4,000 depending on the quality of Power system and electronics you use. I'd highly recommend always going with high quality Engines and electronics.
Thanks,
Voro
what are the dementions
Do you have heavy aircraft inspections in the states?
freestyle lol, definitely not free flight. although I did once do that when the radio didn't connect.
also the poor man's redundancy of two A123's into the receiver.
Shit just got serious.
all that power and money....even carrier bags cost 5p now so you can even spend unnecessarily to get it home...jeeees
ill warn against the smart fly "powerbox" we had some pilots at IMAC using them. All crashes with rudder stuck in diffrend pos. Now you know
what a pointless comment...
do you really trust spectrum???????
What's wrong with spektrum
they lose signal all the time... personaly i only trust futaba and frsky. i believe JR is nice and aurora too!
Does the dx6i loose signal as much or less or more. Than the newer ones such as the dx6 or dx7
they say that the new models do not loose signal but i believe it takes some time for the problems to appear, just like the oldest models. Basically some spektrum transmitters never had problems but others had from the first day.. I personaly do not trust spectrum. i have lot of friends that have spektrum and had problems. futaba T6J is far better than spektrum t6e-i as a result of my personal tests in real environment test field.
Ok I'll make sure to get a futaba for my next tx.
1) No gyro ????? 2) Have you given any consideration to going with an electric motor ? I understand that in giant scale, there are CG issues with that.
need smoke system
Basicly.....
say...pull..pull..faster.
you did not build unless you started with plans and a box of wood gluing an arf is not building you are decorating another mans work
