I feel like the editing is making it more than it is, when you work in the food industry especially in a hotel everything has to be perfect, you don’t have room for mistakes bc not only are you representing your restaurant but also the hotel so it’s double the pressure. If you’ve never worked in the industry you wouldn’t understand. Personally, I didn’t find anything she was doing out of the ordinary or “too much” as a boss. Routine condition checks, fingernail checks, watching their work stations, telling them of how they’re making small mistakes; it’s all normal lol. Let’s be real, simple as thawing the shrimp in advance, those are things your boss shouldn’t have to tell you, let it be common sense
But she herself drank everyday. Idk if she had to make her workers to follow rules, she herself needs to be following them too. and as perfect as it needed to be, they are human with emotions and obviously we made mistakes now and then. It's great that she is stern when giving instructions but don't forget to give compliment they deserve too. She's okay but there are a lot more worst cases of toxic kitchen culture. Kitchen culture is too toxic and people always make excuse it is to produce perfect work. Imagine your whole life having to hear yelling, your whole freaking life. It shouldn't be normalize. I had to see my father who works in the kitchen got yell at for 30 years, 30 freakin years. He had sacrifices everything for the kitchen yet the head never appreciate him. One day, when these bosses die, instead of remembering the success, I hope they remember how they treat their workers too. I hope my father boss remember that for 30 years, he yell at my father who had sacrifice everything for that kitchen.
@I am Fighterman The cycle have to be stop. Like I said, I don't min being discipline. I don't want sarcasm and yelling to be normalize. Idk if you know how it feel seeing your family being treate the same way I did.
Her actions & anger showed that everyday her staffs are making HUGE mistakes. Her DAILY ANGER showed that her everyday is like her day1 of work in a new workplace where conflicts happened because everybody is new to their own roles. It shows this.
@I am Fighterman her boss cant be anything worse as she seems to be the extreme case already. Anything further will be possibly sentencing someone to hang. Haha
If you work in real hotels the structure is different.. this here is 1 chef with her cooks so she has a lot of pressure and stress on her back, thats why there should be team leaders.. Chef executif, sous chef, chef de partie, cooks.. thats how it shoud work.. it needs discipline so everything is clean and organized.
Wow editing did her so wrong. Please i did my internship at this resto ( i mean standard is high, we serve VIP, after my intern currently working here in London because of higher pay check😁) don't believe everything they show you on tv. Editing was good for entertainment purpose simpy as that. She is hardworking and simply wants to give the best service
I’m more worried about the interviews she saw as she said she keeps grudges 😂 but i feel like she knows the grievances anyway, she probably started out in a similar position as her staff when she was younger
I am not surprised because this is normal in an upscale restaurant or hotel but I wouldn't like this kind of environment to work either....but the briefing in the morning and the checking of hygiene are important. Watching this video reminds me of my manager 🤣 when i was working at Marriott international, one day me and my colleagues decided to go to a club and clubbed till 4 in the morning. Our reporting time was 6 in the morning, of course, i wasn't looking fresh because of lack of sleep and he told me he knows the reason because he saw my story 💀 so if you want privacy do not follow your team leader...
@I am Fighterman They can't show the process entirely. Most dim sum is kept secret because of how they are made. From treatment of ingredients to the process/measurements/etc... Something as simple as temperature of ingredients can give away so much. Remember, this is her livelihood and recipes she's come up with and spent years training under masters to learn how to do. This show has never been about showing the process entirely and most times, they even skip it completely unless they are sure it can't be replicated. It's not like she was the first chef to appear on the show, they have had several chefs and none of them have ever fully showed their process bc it's their trade secret. They appear on this show bc they are cocky and believe that they are can treat their employees well compared to those who have appeared on the past (which is rarely the case) and it brings awareness to their restaurants (boosting sales).
I've never seen a boss restrict employee's alcohol intake, especially not when they consume alcohol themselves (let alone daily). The fact she goes as far as following her employee's personal lives via instagram is already an invasion of privacy, they aren't public figures or front facing so there should be no need for that. Yeah they are being harsh, but it's not without reason. Sure nagging/etc... that's normal, but the fact that she publicly admits to holding grudges against her employees is next level toxic. I've worked in 5 star hoteliers' restaurants, this kind of behaviour doesn't fly. Employees burn out so fast and there's a reason why they even say aloud that they actively ignore her when she's speaking to/nagging them, if not they would leave even sooner. Edit: also just want to add, she doesn't treat all her employees like this, there is one in the next part of the show where she calls that person indispensable and allows them to do whatever they want (drink, etc...), yes that person is a dim sum master, however it's clearly differential treatment with way too varying levels of respect. Although the employees aren't at the same level as the master, that shouldn't be justification for her treatment to them.
@@selenophile6405 I’ve worked with chefs before and what I’ve seen if if someone in the kitchen is moving slow with something they’ll usually come in and assist or have someone else assist then after everything is done like during a break they’ll correct the employee. She’s scolding while a rush is happening which makes the person get flustered
All the people who say this behavior is normal are neither children who has never held a professional job or are so abused in their role they lost touch with reality. In any circumstance a leader like this would’ve been sacked or demoted b/c this behavior leads to high turnover and increase expenses (hiring and training cost + time spend on the process). My job as a mgr at my role is to help resolve issues and help the individuals be the best version of themselves. It’s done with constant learning, training and improvements with the end goal of them moving up in the company or find better opportunities outside. None of this passive aggressive non-sense.
Yup at my job we have a good relationship with the higher ups. Yes they’re strict but not to the point where you feel suffocated. It needs to be a balance. No one fictions in the type of environment she has created
Only from watching I felt d pressure and d strictness I won't be comfortable working with her .I wonder hw d staff feel cuz they are there with her everyday .I bet they all feel comfortable when ever she is not around ☺️
Strict and high standards for your employees, yes that's any industry ... Being demoralizing, rude and creating a toxic work environment like this lady...no
This is so toxic. Why be proud to be the cause that creates a toxic workplace like this and be the reason your employees have anxiety and mental health issues.
Fr..I hope she will take some time to reconsider her words and actions towards her employees..happy employees, happy business..I understand that the kitchen is tough but this is just extreme
@@Ace-vv6km I grew up in a kitchen, my dad is a chef but she’s wasting so much time scolding them and belittling them when there are other ways to train and teach them. She can discuss the issues w the employees after work and not mids of it all. That’s just my opinion
LMAO She thinks she's motherly to them and very giving because she was never given that. It makes sense, but also make me think about how bad she must've had it as an employee.
Being strict about their personal life like drinking after work is VERY illegal in the US. I was shocked when she said that she drinks everyday but is harsh on her employees for the same thing! Wtf! She's stalking them on social media. But I know if you want a clean and successful restaurant then you have to be strict, but if its too much, no one will stay long-term so you'll constantly have to train new people. I hope they're all getting paid well!!
Interesting. They edited Lee Yeon Bok so differently. He seems laid back anyway, but a part of me is disappointed. When the former baseball player worked his staff hard they edited that as funny and not over demanding at all. Interesting.
I guess Lee Yeon Bok’s character plays a part in the team environment and his team communicates well and works together like a well-oiled machine probably due to experience. This female boss in particular may be pickier since its a Michelin starred restaurant.
I think the perception of her behavior is negative because she is a woman. But she has to behave as such to maintain hierarchy and control over a predominantly male staff.
those who does'nt work in a "real" kitchen would say.. she's so toxic and very bossy.. well guys, she's the leader, the one in-charge and this is very normal.. a lot of things needs to consider most especially your team hygene, (nails, hair etc) remember you're feeding people, you have a hotel name to keep.. so everything as much as possible needs to be organized, on time and no time for mistakes. i just wish those commentators experience working in a kitchen.. a hotel kitchen or even a restaurant for 2 weeks..
tbh this chef is pretty toxic imo i understand cleanliness. but to force herself to follow their social medias and admit if they went partying and drinking bc its forbidden but she drinks everynight is weird and hypocritical to me lol like there's no boundaries to invade a employee's personal life? if they show up it's all that matters wtf
It's like she's right about cleaning and the "perfection" but she says in a way that can be veeeery scary and burning for her employees.

Do you think this is a multiple Michelin star establishment lol? this is a pretty typical high end restaurant structure in Korea.....

this editing really did her dirty, and everyone calling that toxic have clearly only worked in a slow-paced environment
But isn't she also wasting time by scolding and complaining to the employees?
