- One of country music's biggest hitmakers, Ernest -- who has written songs for Morgan Wallen, Florida Georgia Line, and Sam Hunt -- dropped "Flower Shops: The Album" recently, and in today's video I'm talking about that collection of songs and steel that took me by surprise!

Heyyyo I'm gonna try to do a few more one-off videos and just dipping down on albums or songs that interest me. At least for a little bit! Still wanna do deep dives but also wanna try this style in hopes of making more content. (And hey this one ain't that different from my usual. Still ended up being a 13 minute deep dive lol)
As a one off subject, I want to say Estonia is sending a very interesting song to the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. He is Stefan Airapetjan and the song is "Hope". You can use for reaction the lovely music video for it as compared to his live performance in the national Estonian "Eesti Laul" qualification round that he won. I really like your take on this song. When you hear it you will realize you will be genuinely surprised and that's why why I want you personally to comment on it. Really appreciated.
@@allstopblue5717 Thanks for your great comments. The song struck me as so unlike Eurovision yet very effective. I also saw in the song contemporary lyrics that could fit our Covid-19 days or the great suffering of the Ukrainians. In fact Stefan sang an acoustic live version in support of the Ukrainian people.
Turned out great man, I enjoyed it!
Hardy, Morgan Wallen and Ernest it feel like a great trio and would love to hear an album with them all
Great day for flower shops. ?
Would be a great album
Would be an awesome tour
@@abelardopascual6564 I think the latest Morgan tour is these three were all on.
Grady you could put out videos about random country singers who I never heard of and I would still watch. You have opened my eyes to so many good country artists!
Those are my favorite Grady videos!
Yeah let him make a song about Dillon Likens
I’ve been obsessed with “Classic” it’s got such a good vibe and writing
“Did it with you” has to be my favorite song right now
Same. I feel like we rarely get country songs in that tempo anymore which is a shame because some of the best country songs are in this faster tempo. Shout out to chattahoochee and grape snow cones
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodsm4708 hell yeah. I admit I’m biased towards Ernest. Been following his career and podcast for quite some time. But yeah he’s killing it. Really digging Trouble with a heartbreak lately as well. John Morgan seems to be a great songwriter on the rise similar to Ernest
Personally my favorite is a tie between “if you were whiskey” and “feet wanna run.” Love the one-off video style. The genie in a bottle part made me laugh more than probably should’ve
Bro are you kidding?? You turned down Just Being Ernest? DO THAT NOW. He’s the next big thing! And, nice dude, I’m sure he’d return the favor. Excellent album. Great video.
Sort of like you, the more I’ve listened the more I have found things I like about the album. I saw him play Sofi in LA and the music was such a vibe! I’ve become an even bigger fan. He’s a fun guy too. This fire and Tennessee queen stand out in my mind from the show.
Also, the way everyone knew flower shops in the stadium was wild! Heard it on the way back from the hallway and EVERYONE was singing it in the hallway, corridor and into the stadium. Really impressive! I’m looking forward to more music by ERN.
Go on the pod! I love the pod. He kills me 😂
Stop overthinking your content! It’s great man :) from a fellow Virginian.
Whether it's a grand thematic video or a simple take on the importance of being Ernest, we're here for it. I've really enjoyed getting back into country music 🎶
Love a good Oscar Wilde reference
I love these shorter videos because I don't have to wait as long between videos to hear from you!
First might I say, I’m so stoked you done a video on this! Ernest is fantastic and this record is no exception.
Respectfully, disagree with you on ‘What It’s Come To’, personally one of my favourites. Yeah okay, it’s not the strongest lyrically but I think it allows you to fill in the rest for yourself. It almost makes it weirdly more relatable if you’re able to fill in the blanks yourself as a listener I think ? Doesn’t work on every song but wholeheartedly, believe it does on this.
yes! been waiting on this one! always a good day when Grady uploads
I listen to the album and immediately thought “I hope Grady does a video on this. It’s really good”. And here we are.
I think it’s great to see you plan to make videos that focus on just one artist or subject, especially on an artist that deserve more attention, love and respect.
Love these one off deep dive videos. I think it'd be cool for you to interview the artists after you dive into their backgrounds, to get more clarity. I've always enjoyed your interviews and would love to see more.
Do the podcast!!! It's gonna be great, because you're great and you have your own point of view that we all want to hear. And I guess so do Ernest when he invited you.
I wouldn’t even call myself a country music fan and I watch your videos just because your style of content is so incredibly engaging. Make whatever kind of videos you want!
Love the simple focus on one artist videos. But any of your videos are great. I’ve discovered so many different artists through you.
Good to have you back Grady!
I think Locals Only is one of the most underrated songs. Seriously why doesn’t anyone talk about it? It’s romantic, beachy, vacation, relaxed calm vibes galore. I love it
And his voice is top notch.
American Rust has been on repeat in my house for months. Equally obsessed w Flower Shops. Ernest has that same sort of Luke Combs relatability imo
I really enjoy this type of video, Grady! I know it's easy to get in our own head sometimes, but trust that we appreciate the work that you do and your perspective!
This album is so good
Love when you deep dive / look closer into one specific album & spend your time on it. As for Ernest, was blown away when I saw him open for Chris Lane in San Francisco in 2020 - just a month before the world shut down. I love the tone of his voice -- esp since I grew up on 90s/00s r&b and pop -- and his voice is like butter ... and his lyrics are fantastic ...
Truly appreciate your input. Your recommendation make me very happy purchasing this album.
Loving your content lately. Most underappreciated country singer on my radar right now is Elliah Heifetz, especially his song Living Proof. Loving Ryan Culwell lately too. Keep making great content!
Just saw him opening for Brooks & Dunn with David Lee Murphy in Virginia Beach on Friday night and they were all awesome
Hope to see you on just being Ernest!!
I played baseball with this guy in high school, I’m pretty sure his real first name is Keith. He was a pretty cool guy, definitely remember him trying to make it as a rapper in the beginning but glad to see he’s seeing some success
Oh my word you have to do his podcast!!! It’s straight fire right now!!
Side note, his podcast “just being Ernest” is hilarious
Man, how can you not love Some other bar. The song has such a great flow, I can list to it for hours on repeat
I never love the songs that click with everyone else for whatever reason. My roommate always has the best ear for that kinda thing and he's obsessed with it, so I'm guessing it's a smash.
earnest’s bobbycast with bobby bones was super cool & talked a lot of about his past life. worth a listen!
I've been a fan of Ernest for awhile now and Flower Shops the album did not disappoint. Feet Wanna Run is probably my favorite song to come from that release
Can confirm tommy is an og. While my gf was the first one to introduce me to ERNEST, tommy was a huge proponent of his music in my life. However his song choice is bad. Tennessee Queen is obviously better.
Yeeeeah buddy, been hooked on this album!
Yet another great video brotha ty
Great video Grady I hope to see more soon
Ernest has taken awhile to find himself and what he wanted to do musically. Country is his wheel house and I love his writing. I saw him perform with Lily Rose and Chris Lane here in Wisconsin and loved it. I also love his podcast you should do it as he is just a guy who is a fan of music.
Absolutely love ERN and this album!! He’s a creative, humble, real, hardworking guy that is not afraid to be himself. What an amazing quality these days and it comes across LOUD and clear on this album!!
And why would you ever turn down a “Just Being ERNEST” invitation??
It’s “CLASSIC”!
I love Ernest so I was really wanting this to be a good album and I think it’s great! It’s even better than I thought it would be! Also I love this video and pretty much any video you put out!
Awsome review man. Love the record. You def gotta hop on Ern's pod!
Surprised American Rust wasn’t on the album..love that song
Check out Randall Kings new album "shot glass". Now that's real country music!
The amount of money I would spend to watch you in Just Being Ernest is INSANE
I was JUST here looking for this video last night like an hour before it dropped! Been loving the new album and was looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Great video.
You should totally go on Just Being Ernest!
This is a great album , Classic , Comfortable when I’m crazy , and Feet wanna Run . These three are 💯
Bro I would love to watch you on Ernest podcast, it would definitely be a good time 👍🏽
Tennessee Queen, Comfortable When I’m Crazy, and Feet Wanna Run are favorites for sure. Also, keep up the one-off videos like this… Hailey Whitters new album next please :)
THANK YOU for pointing out him referencing George Strait with Sucker For Small Towns!!!!!!!! I’ve played this album on repeat for days and always think a George song sneaks in when that song comes on!
I love Tennessee queen, if you were whiskey, and feet wanna run! And please go on the podcast!
I LOVE THIS ALREADY
Please do the podcast bro, I’d listen to that in a heartbeat
I really like his new album and I've found very little new country to listen to lately.
He's got a song with diplo, "Bottles Bout Dead" and I dig it
Ernest actually already made a song with diplo it’s called bottles bout dead you should check it out
Love Ernest!
It’s weird that now some of the smaller artists I listened to before they were very famous are now huge artists
I was just wondering when we'd get your take on Ernest! I love so much of this album. I think Tennessee Queen is a great example of when referencing song titles, etc, fits seamlessly into the story he's telling and works to conjure feeling (as opposed to ye olde Frankenstein Country.) Good shit, Grady!
also - were thinking of Bump N Grind? My miiiiind is telling me nooo, but my boddyyy, my BODYYYY's tellin me yessss
3:56 he already made a song with Diplo called Bottle’s bout dead
First time I heard Flower Shops I was several beers in at a Morgan Wallen concert.
I love "Flower Shops," but I'm a sucker for a great waltz!
I love Ernest, discovered him because of Morgan.
Currently waiting for Morgan Wallen, Hardy, and Ernest to drop an album together.
Ya I love the purposeful ode to 70s, 80s country that this album was produced with.
You have to do the podcast! His are hilarious to watch
Wonderin bout the wind is my absolute favorite song on the album.
Bro what? Wrong album
Would love to see you on the podcast!
I really enjoyed this album, I was surprised. Also, do the podcast!
I was skeptical going in but I absolutely love the album.
Thanks for fixing my algorithms !!
Dude!!! How do you not mention Drunk With My Friends hahaha. That's the funniest song on this album!!!
Definitely do the podcast. That’d be dope
Get on the pod!!!
I love Ernest!
First let’s talk about hardy
Now let’s talk about Ernest
I demand a let’s talk about Hailey!!!!
Hahah Hailey is, as every viewer could predict, very much on my radar.
Okay im not gonna lie I can’t help but love that line in This is What It’s Come To just because of the delivery. I know it says nothing but it feels like there’s some strange hidden meaning, like sometimes life involves just hanging around doing nothing at all
3:56 he did Bottle’s Bout Dead with Diplo
Thank you for mentioning how Did it With You sounds like Boys of Summer! I’ve been saying that since I first heard it
We need a video about 49 Winchester!!
Hardy’s album later this year is gonna be huge… mark words
loved it
Comfortable when I’m crazy is the bombbbb 💣❤️
We will be seeing him during the Key West Songwriters Festival in May - Will be interesting
Grady go be on that podcast! You would be great! Do it!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Earnest K rocking those early Mac Miller and Mike Posner aesthetics.
Ernest does have a song with Diplo already. Its fire Bottles bout dead, better than heartless
I KNEW he didn't just disappear.
I remember when Twisted came out (what a bop) but then never heard from him again :(
You should do a vid on Craig Wiseman. He's the man behind the curtain at Big Loud and is the driving force in the country music industry at the moment. Morgan and ERNEST are basically products of Craig. I didn't really make this connection until very recently.
'Did It It With You' is probably my favorite on the album.
You gotta do the podcast. But I totally get how it could be an intimidating situation if you're not a social butterfly even if the host is super nice.
He already made a song w/ diplo, bottles bout dead and ngl it slaps
grady yes please get on his podcast
When you said Ernest could go on and make a song with Diplo, he already has. Its called "bottle bout dead"
Flower Shops is the best mainstream country song in years
Do the podcast...seriously what could be the worst to come out of it!? It will benefit your mission as well. Seems like a no brainer. 🤷♂️👍
I have irrational fears, Randy
@@GradySmith believe me I understand. Pushing yourself to step out of that shadow is the answer man. It obviously doesn't happen overnight and I get that. Total confidence you could kick it if you pushed through! Appreciate ya sir, have a great day!
P.S you can also look at the fact you WOULD 100% be helping Ernest expand his reach as well. It's wins across the board.
When I first heard Tennessee Queen I didn’t like it as much as I do now because my first thought was “FrankenCountry!” with the Elvis song titles thrown in as lyrics. It’s growing on me though
From a songwriters POV the "do what we do lines" are not meant to be throw away lines. They are placed in to say we didn't just start doing these things, or we're not new to this. It's the ole chestnut of "Country Cred" that all to often HAS to be there. I find the more you have to say it...the more likely it's not true lol. Majority of country people couldn't care less what the world thinks or does. Great content sir, thank you!
I really can't stand those lines, to me it's the result of filler and lazy songwriting
@@DTVM2003 I can't say I disagree but I just understand what the premise for using them is. For whatever reason people always have to flex how country they are lol. 🤷♂️
@@RandyBadour Grady actually made a video telling everyone to stop flexing their country cred cuz it's just so cringy
@@DTVM2003 oh yeah, I've been around here for a while lol!
@@RandyBadour country music is about storytelling. Tell a story instead of name dropping a bunch of stuff that is irrelevant to the song!
Ernest did make a song with diplo. it was pretty good.
I think “some other bar” is actually fantastic!
What country music needs is to categorize like rock did.
Get the pop country and traditional country away from each other. There’s still A WHOLE LOT of people that would love to hear Jamie Johnson again. Plus, there’s a lot of artists out there that would love to cut traditional country albums.
