I witnessed one Harwood league match in the early seventies against Navy a right cross from Arthur Pereira he chested the ball and before it could touch the ground he hit the centre of the post I counted it was for atleast ten seconds shaking
i remember him when i was 8 years old when my grandfather used to take me to watch football at Rajandra prasad ground in Margao. whenever he plays the football spectators used to roar like lion. calling out his name.i wish we had some football recording of his past. he is a Legend. now im seeing him after almost 55 years. may God bless him 🙏

At around 74-75 he is still fit! Majestic style of playing. Could shoot at goal from any distance, any angle! Those days shooting with the wet leather ball required lots of strength in the legs! Playing in the slushy Cooperage ground was a big challenge!

Football then was played with passion and not much financial gains. I remember his cousin used to play for Orkay in Mumbai. He talks about leather football which was harder to kick and head specially if you headed the lace side. India will never see players like the older days who had love and passion for the game. .
As a young boy I saw Bernard play for Orkay Mills Mumbai in the Bandodkar trophy football tournament at Margao . A great footballer he played for Vasco and even the Goa team for the Santosh trophy . Whenever he lined up for a free kick the crowd would shout "Boom Boom Bernard--, and next moment u would see the ball crashing into the net!!
