I have such a massive respect for Christopher Lambert. He basically volunteered for the part, took a pay cut, paid his own way to Thailand, and I think even donated a few bucks to continue the film to compensate its low budget. He once even fed the entire cast. We wouldn't have the first MK film had Chris not loved his role so much
I wish they had carried off this witty Raiden into the games, just like they did with australian Kano, after this movie.. this Raiden really added a cool personality to the character
I have a confession to make: I had the biggest crush on Raiden because of Christopher Lambert's portrayal, specifically his voice, I looove it, it sounds so husky yet the words he says are so dorky XD
Why is Raiden a Japanese God? Firstly, if we take the Asian component, then it is closer to China. And secondly, in the original game it was never said that Raiden has a close connection with the Asians. He is the God-protector of the entire earthly kingdom. And outwardly, in the face, in games, he never looked like an Asian man, he only had an attribute in the form of a wide hat.
@@KamenKami Inspiration is not equal to the end result. In his appearance, in games, Raiden does not look like an Asian. His facial features are quite Caucasian.
@@Женёк-б5в That is where people find the disconnect. That is like the god Shiva showing up in the next MK but looking like a black guy. People will ask question on why he isn't Indian. I absolutely *LOVED* this movie. This is everything a Mortal Kombat movie should be It's the best video game movie ever made and it's a shame we don't get more like it
So true! I remember watching all the cool fight scenes before going to school as a little young'un. Good times! Would be sooo nice to get something like this again... one can dream at least!
Its amazing how it actually helped define some really important aspects of characters going forward. Raiden having white hair, Aussie Kano, Shang Tsung's main appearance on MK11 is based on the actor of the movie... this thing really was a great way to adapt a game to the screens, taking creative liberties without stomping on the roots.
In '95 when this movie was released, Raiden didn't have a well defined character yet, as the only MK media before that were the first three games and maybe some comic books that no one read. So we can say that this was the first proper characterization of Raiden, and he is out of character in all his appearances following the movie. /smartass
Can’t fathom how James A Janisse can hate this performance so much. Maybe he only said he hated him for the segment. The jokes about it were quite funny.
Still like to imagine this is actually Connor MacLeod after Highlander inheriting the title of Lord Raiden as if its a codename like the James Bond theory.
In Mortal Kombat Defenders of the Realm animated series from the 90s, Raiden displays a sense of humor on some occasions. Clancy Brown voices him, and he would later voice Lex Luthor along with Mr Krabs from SpongeBob SquarePants. Christopher Lambert is an underrated actor.😊🤓👊🏾⚡️⚡️
I didn’t mind the actor they had for Raiden next movie; and in fact much like Dumbledore I think the switch benefited the character since they had to give more emotional performances in their respective sequels. I mean I just can’t imagine Lambert’s version of Raiden talking to Shao Khan like he’s his brother. It just wouldn’t fit.

The old mortal kombat movie was the best. Now the new movie has terrible actors that look nothing like the game. Mileena is some Spanish girl and raiden is some chubby bald Chinese dude 💀
Does anyone know if there is a deleted scene in this movie where Scorpion shows of his prowess against a random warrior just like Sub-Zero did? I distinctly remember a classmate in school talking about "a guy who shoot a worm/snake into another guys stomach and killing him" and then talking about another guy who froze someone before shattering him into pieces. Am I actually going crazy or does this exist in some directors cut somewhere or some version of the movie that I have missed?
I thought he was cool in this. I mean, the guy plays around with the fact he's playing a God. Acting wise, cracking jokes about the end of the world, apologizing for insensitivity and feigning lack of foresight when the good guys win. That was my favourite part.
