I would love to visit that place and maybe sample the product. 😃 I got my back broke in a mine roof fall in 1982, and have been confined to a wheelchair for last 41 years. I have lived a great life doing most of the things that interest me, but at age 72, I don't get around in the ole chair like I once did. I travel through Cyber Space with Great videos like yours and Heather's. Thanks!
There is so much to see in West Virginia and Kentucky. I don’t think the 10 days we plan on being there will be enough time to see everything we want to see. Guess we will have to come back again. So much history there. I’m so happy that you and Heather are telling us the history of the area. I would never have know about so much of the history of where my ancestors come from. Thank you Leo and Heather.
I'm gonna have to move out there to see all the things I want to see. I definitely want some of that shine. Who wouldn't want a bottle with Devil Anse's picture?! Gilbert has moved to the top of my "must see" places. Thank you so much for bringing the beauty into my living room.
My grandfather was a moonshiner from McDowell county WV. He had one of the best recipes. He made a fortune off moonshine. His Uncle Mack Day was the Federal Revenuer. He couldn’t catch him or didn’t want to. Lol
My Mom told me about this place and my grandma. Horse pen ... My gg Aunts and Uncles was married here...lol i have never been here that I know of. Bad memory ...lol love Heather and your videos! You all do a great job!
That’s a huge bottom between those mountains, Leo, where they penned the stolen horses. I remember the sign when it was brand new at the top of Horsepen. I was 7 when they put it up.
Leo, I ate at that Dairy Queen every other weekend. We would go over to “Gilbert Beach” on down 52 and swim in the river! We would bbq, drink beer and have our boomboxes for music! Cassette tapes and also 8-track players! ❤
We enjoyed stopping at Hatfield & McCoy moonshine distillery . I am still enjoying some of their Fire ball shine it brings back my childhood stopping at the candy store for some ATOMIC FIREBALLS ❤❤❤
I just watched Part 2 video with Jack and Missy and really enjoyed that. Now another Leo adventure to visit Hatfield and McCoy Distillery. Truly interesting visit. I love the down home feeling i in this business. Thanks Leo for another awesome adventure.
The best moonshine my friend Chad is legit he has it .... everyone should go see Chad n buy some shine tell him Arkansas sent ya the best moonshine I luv it
I live in the Hatfield & McCoy area, too! In-between Logan and Williamson. We rarely go over to Gilbert, but we just might have to this weekend! I've got a cousin that loves fancy bourbon and it's his 40th birthday party next weekend!
Leo, you are so funny! Liked your hat. Loved that music. I don't know who chose it, but it is great. Isn't Gilbert in Mango County? Where do all of these thousands of people stay? I thought of murder instead of moonshine. Loved the partial log house. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. Great video.
Yes, Judy, Gilbert is in “Mango” County. A lot of the people camp and Logan County has some nice hotels and cabins and several inns. Some stay across the river from Williamson in Kentucky. The trails are everywhere now in Southern West Virginia.
Really good video. And I live about 40 miles south of Gilbert and worked in and around it for 34 years. I'm very glad to see a local business succeed. But I've drank this product. And maybe because of what has to be done to it for legal purposes does something to the taste. It's by no means nasty. And plenty good enough for the tourists who are like all of us and are gonna spend their money on something when they're on vacation. But I can drive five minutes and get the stuff that puts all legal "moonshine" to shame. Just saying. Congratulations to this business and it's owner and I wish them continued success.
That’s the area I’m originally from. Last time I was in Gilbert was last year’s trail fest. So much has changed since I lived in that area. Awesome job as always!!
I grew up at Omar, James. 1974 grad of Logan High School. Grew up picnicking on Horsepen Mountain. There was a little park near the top on Route 52 in the 1960’s. Drank “shine” and homemade elderberry wine in the 1970’s. Hahahahahaha!
Oh, I worry about the development of that region. We lose SO much of the history and "realness" of the wilderness and Appalachian culture when towns and areas are developed for tourism. Of course I would also hate to see any of those small, coal towns die too. 🤷♀️
I wonder why they keep the alcohol proof so low to sell to the customers? Sounds more like Flatlanders recipe to me, he should be selling a minimum of 120 proof😄 and diversify out into some of the mountain recipe Brandy's n home brews. If you can pour it out on a coffee saucer and light it with a match and burns with a blue flame then you got some good sipping liquor 🤣🤣🤣
