When she talked about wondering if medical school was worth it and how she's spent her twenties(or spending her twenties, I suppose)becoming a doctor, I just though, ''Of course it's worth it!'' I have great respect for doctors and wanted to be one for a time when I was younger but ultimately, what I I realized is that it wasn't something that I was really passionate about and dedicated to and as I'm sure most med students and doctors can attest, being a doctor is something that you have to REALLY want and be dedicated and committed to. It takes a great deal of time, money, effort, hard work and commitment to becoming a doctor(I'm sure it can be stressful, as well) and if it's not something you really want or even if it's just something you want to do PRIMARILY because you want to be wealthy and financially well-off, there's no point pursuing it. I look at people who spent their twenties in gangs or selling drugs and engaged in other kinds of criminal activities and people who spent their twenties(or 30s,40s, 50s or the vast majority of their lives) in prison and some of them look back on their younger years in reflection and correctly conclude that it was a waste of their lives and of their valuable time, so being in med school and working toward becoming a doctor is a great and wise use of one's time, I would think.
@synchromorph I can see that you misread me. I wasn't comparing doctors to criminals at all. All I was simply saying was that spending your time becoming a doctor is a good, positive and constructive way for people to use their time and that it's a much better and wiser way for someone to spend their time than engaging in criminal activity(which I know people aren't supposed to do, anyways but obviously people still commit crimes despite the law) and that medical school is absolutely worth it.

I am currently in High school as a senior, and I have wanted to go to medical school since the beginning. It was very motivating and helpful to see an exact parallel to who I could be in 8 years. You talked about the 2010s as an amazing decade and how you are finally going to have a stable career and hope to attain a stable life. Meanwhile, I am about to start my first decade as my own adult person, launching with my 18th birthday.

America, you are so inspirational and i am so happy that you’re going into residency and that you’re sharing your experiences with all of us. This is one of the best q/a videos on RUclips. She actually answered questions that are not only interesting for viewers but also very beneficial to medical students watching. This did give me a lot of hope as a medical student that hard times will pass and that I'll never regret it and that it wasn't a wrong decision. And above all it was very honest and sincere and that's probably why it's amazing.💖

Thank you America
I’m so glad I found your channel. I want to be a doctor as well and the way you expressed your yourself about being a doctor is the way that I feel and see myself doing in the future. Sometimes I doubt myself I can’t do it, but I know I can. It’s hard, but totally worth it and i’m so excited for the future and this decade because I hope by the end of this decade, I get my medical degree and do what I love the most; help people, be a doctor, be a hero.

Thank you so much for speaking about your journey and your feelings about it. I am in a master's degree program, looking to apply the second time to medical school and I have been struggling emotionally moving forward. I appreciate you for being so transparent and really relatable. Sometimes, I forget that there is an end to studying and school. You have encouraged me to keep fighting and thank you for confirming that it is worth it.
I'm just starting to go on the journey of becoming a doctor. I always wanted to as a kid but time got away from me (I'm not in my 20s anymore). After talking to someone about it I actually decided I still wanted to do it and I will.
You’re so well spoken and intelligent it comes across in your videos and youre just a good person to be speaking about your experience - always honest and have a positive spin on all your messages :) keep doing what you’re doing America! you’re going to (and already are) achieve amazing things!
i'm so glad you posted this. i'm currently studying for my mcat in a couple of weeks and it helps to have some sort of reassurance, especially without anyone in my family having gone to medical school or even graduate from college (immediate family). I'm so happy for you, you're going to make a great surgeon!
I appreciate your video. I've been contemplating for the last 2 years if I should go to medical school. I'm a 29 year old woman in my last year of college and your video is like confirmation that I should really consider going. I appreciate it. I too am single and childless so I should definitely take advantage of it now for my future as a medical doctor!
perfect study break video...about to find out if med school is worth it or if i should just burn all my immunology notes now and quit while im ahead lol. cant wait to watch, hope you're doing well America!!
Oh America, you’re my fave honestly. You WILL find that person and you will have that family that you want and you’re going to make an awesome surgeon! ☺️☺️♥️
I think medical school, its challenges and sacrifices has made you a more *fierce and determined individual. You have grown in so many ways from your earlier videos even in how you carry yourself and this is probably one of the hardest but rewarding life experiences you will go through. I went to law school and yes you have moments where you question yourself and there are times you feel you are soaring and you got this, mentality and other days you just feel drained and question your abilities. I think its part of the journey to self growth, we HAVE to be our biggest cheerleaders because there WILL be times when someone's personal bias will simply try to bring you down or proclaim, they don't like you for whatever personal subjective reason. It took me years to learn this and even in my mid 30s I still struggle with not taking other peoples opinions about me so personally...I need to analyze if their criticism is worth me devoting all this time reflecting if maybe there is some truth to what they are saying and I can use that criticism to improve on something or do I brush it off and not give anymore precious time to someone's oftentimes pernicious comment? It takes really knowing who you are and being confident in yourself and your abilities to be able to discern the difference.

I don't want to go to medical school but I just enjoy watching these videos!
Hi America I am 30 and preparing for USMLE step 1. Completed my residency in anesthesiology from India. I relate to you so much. Many people around me told me I was average. I was belittled many times. But my parents have been my backbone. Thank you so much for this. I feel so motivated and confident. I watch your videos everyday.
It is not much but I am proud of you America it was wonderful taking this journey with you through medical school
America, you are so inspirational and i am so happy that you’re going into residency and that you’re sharing your experiences with all of us. I love your videos and I love how open and honest you are about your experiences. By far the best medical student on RUclips if u ask me. I wish nothing but the best for you, I’m sure everything will fall into place eventually (I can totally relate!)
You're one of thee most positive future MD that I enjoy watching on youtube. You'll be a great physician..
A beautiful person who came out looking more badass than ever! Congratulations on graduating med school in May! Proud to be a fan of yours~
Loved this update from u America!! I watched you since u were in 1st year and I can tell how much you’ve grown into this beautiful & brilliant young lady in the way that u carry and hold yourself. Can’t wait to see what you’re up to when you’re in residency!!
I LOVE HOW YOY SAY “WHEN I GROW UP” ❤️
This is one of the best q/a videos on RUclips.
Wow I’m here early. I just wanted to let you know how much of an inspiration you are to me and you’ve literally changed my life. Thank you!!! ❤️
You are looking so good 🤗

I love love love this video and it was emotional to watch because I’ve been following your journeys since MS1 and now we’re both gonna graduate in a few months. It’s really amazing to see how far you’ve come mentally and academically.
Ohh and I’m a medical student from Baghdad, Iraq. So you can only imagine how far your impact has come.
Taking a break from studying for A&D! Thank you for your videos they make me so happy even during these stressful times!
America you are so inspirational. I completely understand where you come from even though I am a clinical psychology major. I still have 4 more years until I get my doctorates and watching you is such a breath of fresh air and seeing you finally finish your school journey. You will be a great doctor and I wish you the best of luck in your success
Loved watching you for the past 4 years! Thanks for always motivating us. Wish you nothing but the best America!
So proud of you America! It is so amazing to hear you speak and you are truly so inspiring. Currently a premed thinking about PA as well and I love being able to hear your perspective on medical school. Also I’m from San Antonio so very cool to recognize the clips when you were in the medical center:)
I’m so proud of you America! You are the one that inspired me to make my Medical Student Vlogs as a non traditional application while I get married and start a family. You are such an inspiration for so many. I hope I can help people like you have as well.
Let me just say I’m so proud of you...look wow far you’ve come, you’re gonna ROCK you residency America
YES ANOTHER VIDEO!!!
America for some reason I stumbled upon your Channel like a year ago and I want to be a doctor (surgeon) so I was hooked right away and I have been watching ever since and ever since then I feel like I connect with you very much I’m grateful that I got to watch everything the good and the bad about medical school and I love your positive energy as well I’m glad I got to watch this video and you go through med school it gives me hope that I could go through it. Thank you America
You have grown so much these past few years. I remember watching your all-nighters, diet coke, & homemade rice videos.
Can you make a video where you talk about ideal sleep schedule for medical students ?
It's the same as anyone else lol.
There is none.
Plz never stop filming your experiences! Watching your videos has helped me in so many ways
I’m so glad I found your channel. I want to be a doctor as well and the way you expressed your yourself about being a doctor is the way that I feel and see myself doing in the future. Sometimes I doubt myself I can’t do it, but I know I can. It’s hard, but totally worth it and i’m so excited for the future and this decade because I hope by the end of this decade, I get my medical degree and do what I love the most; help people, be a doctor, be a hero.
reaching the end of 1st sem, 2nd year ... I had few breakdowns already. but this video made me cry once again but in a good way. remembering to be thankful for this opportunity to study despite having no money and juggling work and medschool. Thanks, America!
Late 20s and I'm starting to study for the mcat! We can do it!
@@breeromero7668 yes we can! Good luck with studying/testing!!!!
thanks for uplaoding this. when I'm about to flip the table and quit, u keep it real. thanks.
I was just watch/studying with a study with me for finals this week thinking about how I havent seen a video from you lately 💕💕
Wow time flies!! Been here since you were in your first year so happy and proud of you !!☺️
perfect study break video...about to find out if med school is worth it or if i should just burn all my immunology notes now and quit while im ahead lol. cant wait to watch, hope you're doing well America!!
I wish you the best of luck America and congratulations on your accomplishments.
Oh America, you’re my fave honestly. You WILL find that person and you will have that family that you want and you’re going to make an awesome surgeon! ☺️☺️♥️
Hey America,
i just wanted to say that i think that you made a huge development over all those years and that you are a wonderful person 🎀
It takes really knowing who you are and being confident in yourself and your abilities to be able to discern the difference.
so proud of you America!
Awh America. I’ve been watching you for such a long time. You are so amazing and I’m proud of you !
It’s so crazy that you’re almost a resident!! I’m so excited for you America!! What kind of specialty were you thinking of for surgery?
