I'd say it's because of how lopsided the synths sound playing minor notes. I'm not very well versed in how to describe the melodies, but you can almost see the same thing in a lot of Maretu's music, like siu even thought they're completely different genres

The harmony in the verses is quite tense, with several diminished chords in a row, which is not a usual choice. The problem is that, for many people, the diminished chord is stereotypically "scary", so people who aren't too well versed in music can get unsettled with such bold harmony. Everything else about it is pretty run of the mill, though, so I think this is just people exaggerating stuff as the Internet often does.
I do think the song is going for a creepy vibe. That section between the verses at 0:43 gives me that vibe, at least. I've heard a couple of City Pop songs doing that sort of thing and even adding some demonic chants into the mix, so I wouldn't be surprised if that "creepy" feel was intended. BUT my guess is that most people think it sounds unsettling because the instruments are slightly out of tune. It's very jarring during the choruses, where you can hear the bass wobbling all over the place and the harmonies don't quite come together. Normally you would think "demos be like that" but the obscure factor here makes it sound like It's deliberate, and I guess It's pretty effective too.

I love the guitar solo at the end. This song has some Depeche Mode vibes and I dig it. Honestly if we could get this to play on the radios in Japan or some way that this can get on the airwaves so the older generation (of which this song is from) could hear it; and maybe that way we can finally find someone who would come forward and remember recording this and lead to the actual artist and singer to give credit. Seriously tho this song is a single waiting to explode.
yes !! what an amazing idea !! I can only imagine the feeling the original artist would have if they discovered the song they recorded so long ago and was discarded was being circulated ! :)

I'm not a musician or anything but the way the tunes are cast kinda sounds dreadful on this parts especially 00:44 , 01:23 The song looks upbeat too, kinda something you wanna put on an anime indeed or a dark version of Shenmue, Detective Conan & Earthbound.
Sounds like your typical city pop song though. Will add this into my city pop collection since it sounds pretty cool. I think that this can be found in some albums sung by City Pop Artists, know a couple of them that only had a single album to their name like Takako Mamiya. The song could be from one of those albums.
This album sounds like something you wanna listen during rainy day or even while strolling the big busy cities of Japan or having a road trip by the dimness of the starry night skies! I don’t hear anything eerie about this! :)
EN: I think i changed my theory. The lady singing in here was someone that at the time somewhere in the late 80s or early 90s, used to be a freeter and i think she was seeking for a job in the music industry. I think nowadays she's a voice actress and she perhaps is the voice of characters such as Rider from the Fate series, as well as Sakaki-san from Azumanga Daioh and the Vocaloid Megurine Luka JP:持論を変えたつもりだ。
The arrangement/melody reminds me a bit of Kidorikko, but less hyperactive. And also a bit of that record Mayo Shono did with Oingo Boingo. Very odd, cool tune.
I think maybe this is a demo of a band that couldn't be approved for the studio that recorded this song, it's very sad that the band that made this song couldn't be a famous band, I hope the band that made this masterpiece can be identified one day.
Certified bop! Idk but I had a McDonald’s Halloween cassette tape that sounded way creeper than this as a kid 😂. But will say the pre-chorus B (opening instrumentals, pre-chorus A, pre-chorus B…2x, Chorus, pre-chorus A, Bridge, Guitar Solo, and Chorus…) only part that sounds off to me based on the synths and her sad droning tone to convey the lyrics. It’s literally one of the saddest break up songs of City Pop based on the sad “Poetic” Lyrics. It’s like they took a teenage break up poem and then finally added the hook so it definitely sounds like a demo. Also the openings gives me major Latin/jazz vibes for some reason.
Could this be from the 80s singer (Takahashi Reiko) her voice and song in ラブソングは唄えない (I can't sing Love Song/Love song I can't sing/Rabu Songu wa Utaenai) sounds alot like this song.
In my humble opinion, this song is not creepy at all! The melody is beautiful, the lyrics are poetic and the singer had(has?) a soft voice and sang with emotion. The only thing that makes this song creepy is the mysterious storie on how it was found. Bitches saying the song is creepy clearly never heard about Dir en Grey hahaha
This song feels like it might belong to an Anime for some reason...Well that's just what i feel or think about this song...Maybe the song was for an old Anime that didn't make the cut and thus the song for that anime was dropped,maybe...Possibly...I'm not too sure,so maybe try searching for the anime to which this song belonged to or somethin, actually now that i think about it i really think it might belong to an anime, cus i remember there was an old anime that had similar beats to this song maybe the person who sings for that anime made this song i'm not to sure though since this is just a guess of mine who knows if it is even right or correct.

the cursed vibe comes mainly from the feeling that you cant feel stable
the chords in there are the ones you least expect, and you cant get a grip on a pleasant pattern

there are strange key changes 1:36, and its also adds to the unpleasant vibe
the slowly establishing pattern suddenly cuts and goes back to the unpleasant zone
ex 0:52, despite the creepy melody, there was a pattern, but it cuts when you least expect it
the melody when it says “sayonara” 1:36 and following is slightly out of pitch
the violin(?) sounds stiff, so it adds to the atmosphere
im pretty sure this vibe was intentional, lets also think of the creators perspective
this is very much unsettling sounding, no way any person would tolerate making a song like that unless it was intentional

This!! PLEASE, someone make this happen!!
Yeah this song is very mod/new wave! Whoever wrote this song was a great songwriter! I'm sad we can't hear more from them. Hopefully we can soon
The solo at the end is soo good
This sounds like a song off of Ali Project's first album. This voice and use of synth has to be Arika Takarano.
just checked that. Nope.
Suena como "Madame Noir"
for me, 1:37 -> 's awkward pitch fluctuation is kinda eerie... just me? the beginning is so beautiful ! I think how much more beautiful music like this is lost... ending up just as tapes in old thrift shops.. o
Sounds like a song 戸川純 (Togawa Jun) would've sing, very much the same style that I love ❤️❤️❤️
I had this thought too. :D I don't know if it's her, but it does have some similarities. I hope the real singer is found someday.
@@Krankhafter Me too, it would be so nice to know if she had more amazing songs like this one
This is such a banger I'm actually dancing to it or maybe I'm just a sucker for eerie vibed songs. I especially like the part at 0:43
you know despite its 'cursed origins' it kinda...yknow. Bangs.
what cursed orgins?
@@ohwoah4324 its known as an unknown song of sorts in japan? according to a video i watched so i may be wrong :o!! but twas a bit spooky at first. but then u listen to it and..well. it bangs.
Nothing cursed about a song thats played in diminished chords yall are just uneducated in music. I watched that video. I think people are over-exaggerating things. Like why must cursed items come from Japan? Try listening to Bali gamelan and get possessed
@@kuramochiyouichi1448 nobody said that all cursed things come from Japan.

So, now that TMS has been found, is this now the most mysterious song?
Yall.. i really wonder who this singer is. she has a beautiful voice, shes so talented.
Just imagine if she was around here somewhere, keeping quiet. i think its possible we may never find info about the song unless someone involved with it shares it..
I dont believe its cursed, its just really eerie (the music) and considering the past.
Imagine if she made more songs..
LYRICS
Where are you going while following the wind, sunset colored dead leaves?
The door may be striked, but there is no sound...
While I sleep in the broken chair
The light outside the window is lighting me
I am dreaming about a unknown town...
Goodbye, you are speechless (no say)
With a sad smile, I will fly away
Flying away, to a distant country
In the sky I've started my new trip Aah...
They took a star
Before letting the blue birds escape, put courage in their feathers
I want to escape the sky...
I better stop my tears...
Goodbye, you are gone(go away)
Your gentle eyes are flying away
Flying away, to a distant country
In the night I've started my new trip Aah...
Vocalist aside, the music itself is very thought out and well put together
So many 80s Japanese pop songs that are in minor keys are so goth lmao
it’s a very pretty song. i enjoy this a lot
Sounds like a demo. This most likely won't be found, the cassette was most likely the only cassette. Only if we find a creator.
I'm not a musician or anything but the way the tunes are cast kinda sounds dreadful on this parts especially 00:44 , 01:23
The song looks upbeat too, kinda something you wanna put on an anime indeed or a dark version of Shenmue, Detective Conan & Earthbound.
Anyone else brought here by Mama Stardust??
me
i dont understand how this is cursed it sounds really good and it kinda sounds like a Jun Togawa song
agreed. i believe this song was supposed to be an avant-garde style song but unfortunately didn’t really take off at all and kinda was just buried
Sounds like your typical city pop song though. Will add this into my city pop collection since it sounds pretty cool. I think that this can be found in some albums sung by City Pop Artists, know a couple of them that only had a single album to their name like Takako Mamiya. The song could be from one of those albums.
It’s not from takako mamiya but I was thinking this earlier too
This album sounds like something you wanna listen during rainy day or even while strolling the big busy cities of Japan or having a road trip by the dimness of the starry night skies! I don’t hear anything eerie about this! :)
Reminds me of Tomoko Aran's Lucifer + Yumi Matsutoya's Nightwalker + Junko Yagami's Zyohanasubargu
This is such a banger man
this song sits well in an anime from the 80s - 90s like Sailor moon, it feels nostalgic
another "mysterious" song? i love when obscure things get discovered
I actually really like this song. Wish people weren't scared of it, cuz its actually really pretty imo
EN: I think i changed my theory. The lady singing in here was someone that at the time somewhere in the late 80s or early 90s, used to be a freeter and i think she was seeking for a job in the music industry.
I think nowadays she's a voice actress and she perhaps is the voice of characters such as Rider from the Fate series, as well as Sakaki-san from Azumanga Daioh and the Vocaloid Megurine Luka
This song *is* cursed... with the groOoOove
The arrangement/melody reminds me a bit of Kidorikko, but less hyperactive. And also a bit of that record Mayo Shono did with Oingo Boingo. Very odd, cool tune.
hmmm i'am gonna buy a casset for 50 yen and accidentaly cause a japanese urban legend
Maybe the lyrics are a bit creepy, but I think it sounds great!
this sounds like the most 80;s thing ive ever heard.
The song is pretty cool. I also agree with several other comments too though, I don't get any creepy vibes from it whatsoever.
Sounds like a song vivinos would animate 💗

This song reminds me of old Ali Project's songs
I think maybe this is a demo of a band that couldn't be approved for the studio that recorded this song, it's very sad that the band that made this song couldn't be a famous band, I hope the band that made this masterpiece can be identified one day.
Forget the singer, someone find that guitarist.
Lol I think its Midi
mannnn i love the melody at 0:17 and the instrument that comes in around 0:23...it's so addicting
Fly away
This music sounds like something by Jun Togawa, idk
Yes, I think so too. It got the same vibes ❤️❤️❤️
This sounds like as if the singer were Hiroko Moriguchi or Yukiko Okada, and i think that is quite probably it is the Okada's last & lost song.
This kind of song usually played for horror+monster movies. 😅
This is a City Pop bop. I like it.
No, this is not City Pop.
This song be slappin god damn 😩👌👌
this is a certified hood classic
if this really is cursed then I shall die listening to this absolute BANGER
ON GOD PREACH
I don't think this is a song that was officially released. Maybe it never even received a name.
So I guess this is the TMS of Japan. Song is great!
I really like it, I think the spookiness makes it unique
How is this cursed and scary this thing is fire shit.
Not a bad song , pretty cool. And yeah sounds 80s.
¿Anyone knows the lyrics of the song?...I'm curious
Beautiful
Also the openings gives me major Latin/jazz vibes for some reason.
a song, a mystery and an unnamed author, mysteries that may never be solved
Sounds a bit similar to the songs: 戸川純 (Togawa Jun) - Aurora B, It hurt to say goodbye and Suki Suki Daisuki

imagine making a demo (which isnt perfected) and people calling it creepy 💀 anywho it's very 80's n catchy ngl
Could this be from the 80s singer (Takahashi Reiko) her voice and song in ラブソングは唄えない (I can't sing Love Song/Love song I can't sing/Rabu Songu wa Utaenai) sounds alot like this song.
does sound similar compared to other people that been suggested
I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. In any case I don't think this song is cursed, it's just a banger.
Well the good thing is, if it is in fact haunted, I can dance with the demons that I just summoned
