Richard the Lionheart marched on Jerusalem but stopped short. Twice. I wonder if he was paid a visit or parlayed with someone besides Saladins brother? It was extremely costly so something very convincing must have been presented

Your answers are in this book: The Old French Continuation of William of Tyre, 1184-97
      ByPeter W. Edbury
The short answer is No. It was with consultation with the Barons of the Kingdom, The Templars, and the Hospitaliars. They could not hold the City of Jerusalem.

@@doylekitchen9795 fair point, but twice he marched on it. Twice he camped. He also held negotiations w/ Saladin brother for the remnants of the True Cross. During the lengthy negotiations, he summoned the garrison he captured from... Acre... I believe? He had them all beheaded in from of the Muslim army and ended negotiations abruptly. Very odd for someone who previously was offering his sisters hand to Saladins brother. There's more here I feel

@@fuzzymcnuget1827 He killed the Muslim garrison at Acre before he marched to Jaffa and then to Jerusalem. Saladin did not honor the terms of the surrender of Acre. The ploy about marrying his sister to Al-Adil was just that. Joan would not allow it.

Hi Ollie. Loved this amazing story. I wonder how they built all the magnificent buildings depicted. They all had antennas of the half moon. The mosques with domes and geometria are amazing.
Sinan was not religious but spiritual. That must’ve been their secret.
    Take care.

Who knows, that assassin's & Templars probably worshipped the same thing. And in order to keep their secret is to stop another group worshipping the same way from entering the alliance. Which would make another loose end that could have been discovered. And yes I know the assassin's wouldn't openly disclose their secret, but just a possibility of discovery.

The Fatimid leader, I think his name was Al Hakim? Young, intelligent, pious, wise beyond his years and the person to start the Ismailis I think? He disappeared outside Cairo while praying alone. His donkey and some clothing were found spattered in blood. This man had an interesting life. While previously very tolerant and open minded, one day he ordered all the Christians and Jews in Jerusalem executed and hung their bodies from the walls. I've found little as to why. Rumored his mother was Eastern Orthadox Christian so doubt it was anything simple....
