Actually just looked up the dude, watched a couple of vids, and yeah, his art style actually really fits Eve's style of songs, or maybe I just got used to Mah's and Waboku's types of art, idk, but the guy is good, and seems like he's definitely right up Eve's alley when it comes to art style and MVs
Theory: Similar to the speculation of a few other people, I think this MV revolves around the main character losing a close friend and being unable to cope with his death. The monster symbolises the depression/mental illness the main character is suffering from as he struggles to stay afloat. MC: the character wearing black Friend: the character wearing white 0:01 A single white pinwheel. In japan, white pinwheels are laid in honor of lost loved ones (search up Osorezan if you wanna know more) This is probably the biggest clue that shows that someone has passed away. 0:03 The monster in this story appears, who I'm just gonna call the mothman. After the friend has died, this mothman appears, symbolising the depression that the MC feels 0:05 You can see the friend surrounded by picture frames with moths in them. Moths are symbolic of death and the mysteries of the afterlife, which is why I think he has died. The scenes are also shown in the order of pinwheel, mothman then friend, which shows the death of the friend, the development of a mental illness and the thought of his friend coming back to haunt him as MC is unable to move on from his death. 0:07 The fan starts to move. Throughout the song, you can see the fans move and stop at various movements, the wind being a reminder to MC that his friend has died. This is further enforced my the fact that you can see mothman with a fan for a head at various moments like 0:48, 1:15 and 2:52 . When the fans are moving, he is remembering. * 0:20 There are a few english translations in the comments but i will be referring to the translation by tackmyn y. Lyrics: I ended up living today. How many years have passed? I ended up living today makes me think that MC doesn't want to live, “ended up” showing he has no desire to be alive. “How many years have passed” .. since the friend died? This line shows how MC is trying to cope with the death but it is eating at him and the depression is growing, making him not want to live anymore. 0:34 You can see pills, which i think are simply the medicine MC is taking to cope with his depression 0:41 Mothman (his depression) reaches his claws out towards MC but he throws a hanger at it, causing him to retreat. At this point in the story, MC is still finding ways to push his depression and thoughts of his dead friend away. 0:52 You can see mothman's head turn into a moving fan and MC appears on a hill of white windmills. Note that all the pinwheels are also spinning. Osorezan as I mentioned above is a hill in japan where (correct me if im wrong) people go to mourn the dead and they leave pinwheels there to honour them. I believe that this is similar to the mountain of pinwheels in the song. Lyrics: I want to say it right now. This painful, flippant and changing heart. Sorrowfully, my words longing for rendezvous are tracing my reprinted memories. “Longing for rendezvous” shows the MCs desire to meet his friend again. “Tracing my reprinted memories” show that MC is beginning to remember his dead friend and he is no longer able to push those thoughts away and hide from it. 1:02 MC reaches his hand out towards his friend (who is unfortunately dead) and the scene glitches, changing the friend to the mothman. This symbolises how the MC is spiralling down into despair as he longs to meet his friend again, fueling the growth of his depression. He is unable to get over the fact that his friend is no longer alive 1:06 Lyrics: Waiting for a lonely star, the boy came to have the eagerness for love. When you look up at the night sky, start dancing now, and sing the praise of farewell till you yearn for it! “Sing the praise of farewell” MC is trying to say goodbye to his friend but at this very moment, the mothman zooms over and towers over MC, taking over him. 1:09 You can see the friend dancing and behind him is mothman, showing that they are on the same side, the death of the friend birthing the mothman 1:27 MC wakes up, with pills near his hand. However, when he opens his eyes, he sees mothman looming over him, showing that at this point, the pills don't work any more. Lyrics: There’s a secret I can’t tell anyone, and behind my smile is a shadow. It’s not like that I want you to know me that no one knows… it’s definitely not like that. “Behind my smile is a shadow” the shadow of his depression. “It’s not like that I want you to know me that no one knows… it’s definitely not like that.” shows the love MC feels towards his friend and the heart ache he is feeling. 1:35 You can see mothman lie down but MC is the one who gets up after. This parallel just serves to show how at this point, him and his depression has become one and he can no longer run from his demons * 1:40 In the washing machine, you can see pinwheels, pills and his friend as well as the reflection of MC, which makes me think these are the only thoughts revolving around MCs head, Lyrics: If only my heart’s throbbing at that time could melt away your frozen heart! You’re alone in the sunshine that’s slipping through your hands, while the setting sun is melancholically drawing close to you. “Frozen heart” and “alone in the sunshine that’s slipping through your hands'' makes me think that the friend actually killed himself and MC feels guilty for not being there for him,“ If only my heart’s throbbing at that time”, but i can't be very sure of this theory because there aren't many other mentions of how the friend died. “the setting sun is melancholically drawing close to you” definitely emphasises that the friend has passed away. 1:46 Friend and mothman are fighting to get MC, showing the struggles MC is facing between either falling to depression and thoughts of his dead friend. 1:49 Mothman now has MCs heart in his claws and I think this is the turning point in the song where MC has truly collapsed under the mental weight of his friend’s passing. You can also see the friend looming over MCs shoulder in the reflection of the washing machine, showing the thoughts of his friend haunting MC. 1:52 Friend looms over MCs shoulder and whispers “hitori” which means one person or alone. This just serves to show that since his friend passed away, MC is all alone, with only his memories left to haunt him. 1:54 Immediately after MC realises that he is indeed all alone, mothman creeps up behind him, reaching his claws out and this time, MC doesn't fight back, giving in to his depression. 1:56 MC opens his eyes to find himself on the pinwheel mountain again and the scenes switch between him lying on the ground surrounded by pinwheels and pills, showing his struggle between the two. The pinwheels are still spinning, reinforcing that the suffering has not ended. 2:06 This time, when he reaches his hand out, it is towards the mothman, showing that he has given up. He closes his eyes, thinking that he no longer wants to be alive and in this scene, his mental health has completely and utterly crashed. 2:13 He wakes up again, but this time, his hands have turned into the mothman's claws and his skin is changing color, highlighting how the depression has begun to manifest and really take a toll on his body. 2:15 The water begins to leak, and MC does not bother escaping, letting himself drown. He has no hope in life anymore and his depression has driven him to suicide. Lyrics: We’re getting faint at night… His drive to live is fading away. 2:26 However, at this moment, his friend appears, pulling him out of the water and saving his life. Basically MC remembers his friend and realises that he would not have wanted him to die. The fan has also stopped, the wind that held him together has disappeared. At this moment, he finally has clarity and begins to realise that his friend is gone and that there is nothing he can do about it. There is also a quick shot of a stationary fan, right after he was saved by his friend 2:34 You can then see the back of mothman, which switches into the body of his friend with a pinwheel as a head (moving this time) , showing how the monsters he was fighting against were just manifestations of the pain MC felt losing a loved one. The scene switches to the friend and shows his heart beating, before changing to the MC, showing how his friend is resonating within him, and that MC has to live for his friend. 2:44 The washing machines explode, and water gushes out. The friend then reaches his hand out and MC swims frantically towards it. MC realises that he wants to live and that he has to live and is fighting his demons to keep himself from drowning. He grabs the hand of his friend and everything around him turns into butterflies. Butterflies symbolise change, showing how MC has come to terms with his friend's death and has accepted it. Mothman also disappears, highlighting how he has overcome his depression. Lastly, his friend turns into a teru teru bozu, which is believed to stop rain and guarantee that the next day will be sunny. This shows how his memories of his friend have turned into a protection charm for MC, promising that the rest of his life will be happy. Lyrics: I ended up living today. How many years have passed? But, somehow I’m feeling somewhat well. MC has overcome his demons and regained a desire to live, moving on from the death of his friend. 2:59 and 3:06 The fans finally stop. MC is no longer struggling with memories of his dead friend Note: At 1:46 and 2:52 you can see one of the small white characters in last dance attached to the clothing line and floating in the water! I love this theory! I had sort of a similar feel to it but you hit the nail on the head in my book! Very well done! One thing I for sure noticed is that throughout the song the MC's right eye is red and glowing, like mothman's, which I think symbolizes he was leaning towards his depression. Though once his friend grabs his hand at the end, his left eye is glowing yellow just like his friend's, probably even further showing how he overcame his darkness.
I love the theory! One more thing you might want to consider is that at 2:55 when MC grabs his friend's hand, he also pulls the string to open the window blinds, to let in the fresh air or to symbolize himself unblinding himself to the fact that the sun's still shining and the world hasn't ended after his friend's death

everyone is talking about how good the song is and the animation, but how is no one talking about the bassline? it fits so well and its so well played too.
I've been seeing a lot of comments mention that this is a character struggling with depression, and I can totally see that and more or less agree, but I have yet to see anyone mention the fan death symbolism. It's far less common of a superstition in the west, but in the east there's a belief that if you stay in a closed room with fans and no open windows for long periods of time it causes nausea, asphyxiation, facial paralysis, and death. And with all the fans in the music video combined with the fact the MC gets better when the window is opened it's easy to see where a good chunk of the sinister fan imagery is intersecting with a cultural fear. Not to say it's got nothing to do with depression symbolism or anything, but I thought that might help explain all the fans for us westerners.
@@eunies5506 Sure! It's incredibly obvious that there is an abundance of fans in the video. They're practically everywhere in the establishing shot, but notably one of the fans is a part of the long-fingered creature which throughout the video is portrayed in a sinister light. This connection automatically associates fans as at least part of the main threat. The MC starts out more or less fine in the laundry room, but the longer he spends the worse he feels. The brighter dreamlike area can connect a symbol of hope as pinwheels are fans powered by external wind and not a potential cause of fan death. Regardless fans are shown in many scenes back in the laundry room and whenever shown are sources of agressive, blood red light. The disconnected human heart could be a symbol doubling as nausea he feels while staying in the room and proof that the MC is still alive. When the MC lies down he is slowly resigning to his fate caused by fan death, made more literal by him almost drowning in the washing machine. When the MC gets pulled out of the washing machine he is confronted by both the long-fingered creature who silently asks the MC to stay still, and let the fans overtake him, and the other boy who shows a pinwheel moving in the wind and challenges the MC to move. When the MC meets the challenge and runs towards the one thing that can stop fan death in a room, window the long-fingered creature floods the room, symbolically determined to take his life shown by the heart exploding. When the MC finally opens the window the flood is gone, the fans stop, and he can truly breathe again. He smiles for the first time, his face no longer at risk of paralysis. That's just my take on it at least. And it doesn't really address the two figures in the room nor the obvious depression symbolism. I more meant my observation to be an addition to explain why the fans are so sinister portrayed. Sorry if this wasn't what you were looking for and I just wrote a whole essay when you wanted a more simple answer.
i cant find that old comment, but there was a comment that basically described the story as a guy who´s friend died and he´s going through depression because of it. the drugs seen in the video are anti depressants, but they dont work anymore at some point where the demon tries to pull him into despair. once he gives into the despair u can see him in the washing machine not caring whether or not he drowns but then the deceased friend pulls him out which basically means he remembered the good memories with him and realized there is more to life. i didnt think of this myself but the guy im referencing i unfortunately cant find his comment anymore which is sad, cause i really think this is more the case than the drug abuse theory.

Similar to the speculation of a few other people, I think this MV revolves around the main character losing a close friend and being unable to cope with his death. The monster symbolises the depression/mental illness the main character is suffering from as he struggles to stay afloat.

I love this theory! I had sort of a similar feel to it but you hit the nail on the head in my book! Very well done! One thing I for sure noticed is that throughout the song the MC's right eye is red and glowing, like mothman's, which I think symbolizes he was leaning towards his depression. Though once his friend grabs his hand at the end, his left eye is glowing yellow just like his friend's, probably even further showing how he overcame his darkness.

I've been seeing a lot of comments mention that this is a character struggling with depression, and I can totally see that and more or less agree, but I have yet to see anyone mention the fan death symbolism.
It's far less common of a superstition in the west, but in the east there's a belief that if you stay in a closed room with fans and no open windows for long periods of time it causes nausea, asphyxiation, facial paralysis, and death. And with all the fans in the music video combined with the fact the MC gets better when the window is opened it's easy to see where a good chunk of the sinister fan imagery is intersecting with a cultural fear.
Not to say it's got nothing to do with depression symbolism or anything, but I thought that might help explain all the fans for us westerners.

@@eunies5506 Sure! It's incredibly obvious that there is an abundance of fans in the video. They're practically everywhere in the establishing shot, but notably one of the fans is a part of the long-fingered creature which throughout the video is portrayed in a sinister light. This connection automatically associates fans as at least part of the main threat.
The MC starts out more or less fine in the laundry room, but the longer he spends the worse he feels. The brighter dreamlike area can connect a symbol of hope as pinwheels are fans powered by external wind and not a potential cause of fan death. Regardless fans are shown in many scenes back in the laundry room and whenever shown are sources of agressive, blood red light. The disconnected human heart could be a symbol doubling as nausea he feels while staying in the room and proof that the MC is still alive. When the MC lies down he is slowly resigning to his fate caused by fan death, made more literal by him almost drowning in the washing machine.
When the MC gets pulled out of the washing machine he is confronted by both the long-fingered creature who silently asks the MC to stay still, and let the fans overtake him, and the other boy who shows a pinwheel moving in the wind and challenges the MC to move. When the MC meets the challenge and runs towards the one thing that can stop fan death in a room, window the long-fingered creature floods the room, symbolically determined to take his life shown by the heart exploding. When the MC finally opens the window the flood is gone, the fans stop, and he can truly breathe again. He smiles for the first time, his face no longer at risk of paralysis.
That's just my take on it at least. And it doesn't really address the two figures in the room nor the obvious depression symbolism. I more meant my observation to be an addition to explain why the fans are so sinister portrayed. Sorry if this wasn't what you were looking for and I just wrote a whole essay when you wanted a more simple answer.
i cant find that old comment, but there was a comment that basically described the story as a guy who´s friend died and he´s going through depression because of it. the drugs seen in the video are anti depressants, but they dont work anymore at some point where the demon tries to pull him into despair. once he gives into the despair u can see him in the washing machine not caring whether or not he drowns but then the deceased friend pulls him out which basically means he remembered the good memories with him and realized there is more to life. i didnt think of this myself but the guy im referencing i unfortunately cant find his comment anymore which is sad, cause i really think this is more the case than the drug abuse theory.
