bass guitar is very much the graphic design of a rock band (it adds form and can either add flavour or entirely bland on purpose), I choose to believe this bc I was also a bass guitarist and am now an art director/designer

I actually work at a poster store so I was so excited to see you made this video! Im very surprised that Pulp Fiction didn't make the list, super iconic. A couple others Id mention are Vertigo, Scarface, Scream, Silence of the Lambs and Airplane. All best sellers with really amazing graphic design.
Also very happy you included princess Mononoke, that print is one of my favourites.
By poster store do you mean a store that sells movie posters or posters for decor? That sounds like such a cool place to work in
The poster for "La Piscine" is a hommage to David Hockney's painting "Portrait of an Artist" (which is referenced in Bojack Horseman as well). The water looks exactly the same.

besides the water, the girl's pose is also similiar to the man out of the pool from the painting
Jurassic Park, GoodFellas and The Truman Show are easily some of my favourite posters, all so recognisable and legendary.
Jurassic Park was one of the first ones that came to mind! Totally snubbed.

Im Polish and I own that muppet movie poster (i actually also have a different polish muppet movie poster as well), i love the polish school of posters and poster art in general so much. I wish more modern posters were creative.
as a Pole, it's nice to see so many good works by polish graphic designers and I love the fact that you highlighted it:) btw I think it's a cool idea for a series (you could also make a video about music album covers)
Yesss it'd make such a good series! I feel like there are so many interesting movie posters that could be included, it's also so nice that the movies were diverse and some less famous than others. Great video in any case
Creep (2014) is one of my favorite movie posters. It’s so simple, but still so menacing and terrifying. It was the sole thing that got me to watch the movie and it was very good as well. What a phenomenal movie poster.

Some of my favorite posters are anime posters like the Princess Mononoke poster, the minimalist poster for Ghost in the Shell, and the original theatrical poster for End of Evangelion. All bangers!
Gonna add couple more to the anime shoutout list!
-Children of The Sea. I love most the posters where the characters are giant and in each corner.
-Other classics would be Satoshi Kon's movies Paprika and Perfect Blue, latter having multiple interesting posters which are all different types of haunting.
-Shinomiya Yoshitoshi's illustrated Pokemon movie posters, Coco especially is its own kind of magical.

I really like the posters for 'Army of Darkness' (1992) and 'Attack of the 50 Foot Woman' (1958) but my favourite is 'Metropolis' (1927) which you mentioned. I literally cheered when you switched to it.

For anime movies, End of Evangelion's poster of Shinji and Asuka on the beach with Rei's huge decapitated head on the horizon is probably the most iconic of all, but may I bring to your attention the original Japanese theatrical release poster.
The image of the dozens of bodies floating under the water of a blood red sea, lit by the moonlight, is so eerie and dark, but with a morbid beauty too. And just raises so many questions, especially if you're going into the movie for the first time. I love it.

A really underrated movie cover that I think is great and really striking, and does the whole teaser trailer thing you mentioned where it only makes sense after you see the movie, and represents a really key aspect of the movie is the cover art for the 2020 movie Possessor. I saw the DVD at a nearby store and thought that it had one of the most subtly surreal movie covers I'd ever seen, and when I posted that with a picture I took of the cover on social media, my friend was like "the movie is just as surreal, you should see it if you haven't", and once I watched it, I realized what she meant. You know movie art (and really art for all kinds of media formats in general) is good though when you can see it in public with no context and it still draws your attention out of everything else around it.
Love this video! My all time favourite film poster at the moment is definitely the Get Out (2017) poster by Jay Shaw!

I'm surprised the poster for The Handmaiden didn't make the list! I've seen praise about how much it gives away without actually spoiling anything, and it does so in such a clever and dynamic way. The hand interactions show the relationship between each set of characters, and the gloves indicate their separation in status (wealthy vs. poor) as well as their personal restraints/secret desires/hidden agendas. The movie itself is a masterpiece well worth the watch, but the poster does such a good job as a stand-alone design piece too. Literally just the lighting and framing choices resemble a Baroque painting!!
I don't mean to geek-out in the comments lol, but "movie poster reviews through the lens of graphic design" is one of my favorite types of niche content. Thanks for the Monday inspo!
One similar to The Lobster in the sort of cut out figure style is one called Parallel Mothers it has this great bright Red and these black and white lines
Another great Red poster is one for a film called Bardo by Alejandro González Inárritu
Maybe a follow up idea could be best “colour” movie posters?

Nice analysis! I'd also maybe recommend you taking a look into the design of physical release Blu Rays - as collectors editions have ballooned over the years, there's a few really great examples of design, that are modern reimagining's of film artwork (and it's why I love collecting them).
Arrow Academy and The Criterion Collection would be a good place to start

If you ever make a second part of this video, the czech poster for Fitzcarraldo definitely needs to be in it! The impressionist style for the movies most iconic setpiece is really something else.

Great video man, im a big film nerd so this was quite the treat. I really like the "Rififi" (1955) poster (The one with the 4 guns), any of the posters for "The night is short girl, walk on girl" (2017) and I will throw in "Belladonna of sadness" (1973), that ones a classic. Love to see a fellow aussie on the rise, keep it up

The poster for Kidlat Tahimik’s film “Perfumed Nightmare” is one of my favourites of all time. It incorporates a bunch of elements from the film really elegantly and just looks fantastic.

One of the posters that really struck me is Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Idk what version but the idea of her being seen like a Mary with the green glow behind her, the white canvas. Really good

Teaser posters are my favourite. The creative and minimalist designs for when a movie has yet to see a trailer but they want to create hype for it.
My favourite example that comes to mind is from The Amazing Spider-Man, where Peter is clinging to the corner of 2 walls and his shadow casts the cool, elongated Spider-Man logo. Love it.
the lobster was my favourite in this video work in white background hits something different

you should do this with band posters! if you do I would suggest my chemical romances exclusive poster for their show in Raleigh NC earlier this year, It's beautiful.
Avengers Endgame poster always looks like all of them try to figure out if they left the stove on.

Fun fact about The Shining poster: Saul Bass originally intended for the entire poster to be red with black text (you can find a mockup of this version online), but Kubrick, who had the final say, chose yellow because he thought it would be far more unexpected and off-putting to anyone who saw it.

For me, it's either Once Upon a Time in America or A Clockwork Orange.
Along with The Shining, I love pretty much all of Saul Bass' posters for various movies. Things like Anatomy of a Murder, Grand Prix, The Cardinal, and Vertigo. I love his design style.

One of my favourite movie posters is the Come and See poster by Igor Pavlovich Lemeshev, although most posters for the film are great, especially the Criterion one and the Zdeněk Vlach one.
As a polish person i am proud of our representation in this video
my two favorite posters are Spidermans' homecoming drawn poster where its like spiraling to the middle and half of Peter's face is covered with a mask like in old comics...and the second one is Tick, TIck..Boom!'s yellow poster. I have it printed in A2 on my wall in the middle of all my posters and i just love it so dearly.
The Suspiria remake had multiple fantastic posters. Not to mention the original Suspiria poster with the white silhouette is amazing. Tenebrae is a perfect poster too. I'm always looking out for that one.

There is two versions what i can see but the one with the skyscrapers is my favourite. Looks so modern even though it´s made almost 100 years ago.
DUDE my parents have that metropolis poster! They used to hang it in the corridor between mine and their room and I used to be absolutely terrified as a kid when I had to go to their room in the middle of the night because her eyes are so piercing I used to believe that she would come alive and like choke me or something

gotta say, one of my favorite movie posters ever is the one bob peak made for the movie hair (and the one he did for apocalypse now lol)

akiko stehrenberger’s poster for portrait of a lady on fire is one my favorite images to ever exist in this earth
I love the italian poster for femina ridens, it's so stylish and represents the film perfectly. The harsh black and white with the headless 4 armed protagonist sitting right in between is just fantastic. It's really a shame that every other poster for that film is terrible.

there's an alternate version of the parasite poster where they are all sitting together like a Class photo and their eyes are covered with that black line, makes it even cooler.

A poster design I enjoy personally I’d the “Retro vintage” style? It’s minimalist style, all white background with a cutout of a character or something from the film inside it.
