Classic example of Eurocentric colonial Orientalism….. it is well worth reading the great Edward Said’s materpiece “Orientalism” for a deeper understanding of the complexities of this singular portrait by Sir Joshua……. Worth another lecture better intellectually informed. This portrait remains dearest to me at The National, on every visit. Over the years, thank you for your channel.
