    SEE; THIS IS WHAT I MEAN, why sewing is pure sorcery.. Like even just the first one, HOW? How are people able to envision these things in 3d? I see people sew completely messed up things, and then they turn it inside out and voilà, perfect result. I can't (literally) wrap my head around how this stuff works, and why nobody mentions this as a big and crazy skill about sewing. Except everybody just works 1:1 by instruction, but even then you kinda have to understand why you're doing what. Anyhow, great tipps!! Just quite intimidating
    Edit: Ok I just tried it, thanks for teaching me sorcery!!

    • @TM-px6gp
      @TM-px6gp 2 года назад +2

      Well I will try to explain how I think of it... I'm * not * an expert, and I'm still learning and have a lot to learn. The same thing used to puzzle me. I really wanted to understand it!
      One simple way is to think of the process "backwards". Like, for example, how a decorator imagines a finished room. They imagine what they want first, then figure out how to get there.
      Another example, say you want to sew a cube. What does a cube look like? Well, it has 6 square sides. So you could start there, and think, I could cut out 6 squares. Then you think about how they need to fit together, and try and see if it works. It can be a lot of trial and error honestly, but that's where it starts. You imagine the shape of what you want, then figure out what makes that shape, then figure out how to get it put together.
      One more example, for the hand mitt. The hand mitt was a rectangular shape when it was finished. It needs to be two layers so your hand can go in the inside. It needs a hole for your thumb. It would be nice to have that hole finished nicely, so if you add another layer then you can hide the seams between those layers. Tecnically the finished product, lying flat on a surface, would then be 4 layers.
      So with that in mind, you figure out the measurements and dimensions you want, and think about the shapes you need and how to make it happen.
      It takes a lot of imagination, but also it's grounded with facts (measurements) and real shapes. It takes practice, and practicing on making simple geometric shapes can really help to start visualizing for some people.
      I used to enjoy doing some simple origami when I was younger, I think that helps too. You have all these lines and squares and triangles, but as you go you start to understand how they create a crane, or a flower, or a box.
      Anyway I have no idea if this can be helpful to anyone, but hopefully it can!

      @@TM-px6gp Hey, thank you so much for your thoughtful reply, and for taking the time to reply at all! It's a bit relieving to know you had to learn this stuff too! (Because sometimes I feel like my brain is unnaturally slow or rigid and it scared me a bit lol, but I guess most other's experience a lot of trial and error too, just that you don't see it often in a finished video e.g.)
      What I found just now is I definitely need to get past that fear of wasting even the crappy testing-fabric and give myself the freedom to test things out.
      But your video helped me alot already, I decided to just go for it, even though I didn't understand it, and it worked!! It's crazy to me lol.
      I'm gonna keep doing these little practices, at some point I'll hopefully gain a bit of a feel for the sorcery.
      Thank you so much for your help and your videos!

    I find your videos clear and concise, but they'd be way more helpful if you noted what the tips and tricks were for--both in the video and description section. I have no idea what you're doing sometimes which makes me abandon the video often before it's finished or avoid it altogether. Plus, if you tag the name of the tips in the info box it would make them searchable. If I knew what I was watching I'd probably subscribe to your channel but often I just give up and switch to something else halfway through because I don't know what I'm looking at. Just a thought.

      Agreed! Also, if you put an index of the hacks/tricks in the video description, you could add a time stamp, which makes it easy to come back to a specific part of the video if someone wants to use the trick in their real life sewing!
