▷ Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi has died in a helicopter crash that also killed the country's foreign minister. The Iranian Vice President confirmed the helicopter went down near the city of Jolfa, in northern Iran, on the country’s border with Azerbaijan, around 600 kilometres northwest of the Iranian capital.
Raisi's death during heightened regional tensions leaves a potential power vacuum in Iran not just for the presidency but for the successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
▷ America's National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has laid out a plan to Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presenting an opportunity for Israel to normalise relations with Saudi Arabia - if Israel agrees to a pathway to a future Palestinian state, but stressed the need for military operations in Gaza to include a political strategy for lasting post-war peace.
