    I just got this watch yesterday. It's a beautiful watch in the flesh. However not a single reviewer has mentioned the ugliest issue in terms of value for money: its movement is a reduced size NH35 (the advertised one is a NH05A which is a "ladies" movement and I didn't know that it is basically a NH35A one) with a ghost position. Once I wind it, it came to me as a surprise to find that ghost position on a 513€ plus taxes (that's what I paid for it) watch. It was a bit of a disappointment. However as you have said is a piece of artistry to show off.

    Amazing dial. I'm thinking of getting this but they're coming out with the "Marco Polo" limited edition. What do you think?
    On your thoughts on the movement. I do agree that I do prefer a balance with the dial and the movement. However, with current the movement present, it's gonna make it much easier to maintain or repair due to the availability of parts. This helps me out especially I'm halfway across the world and making repair/maintenance easier. Also, there's no seconds hand so the beat rate isn't a big factor IMO.

    I do admire the artistic workmanship that went into making the watch. A conversation starter for sure. Not my type of dress watch though. Good review Shane 👍

    It's a beautiful piece for me and I own one.
    It's a buy if you have like 40 watches and just wearing or keeping it for fun. But if you only own a couple, then it might not be a good choice.

      My thoughts exactly. I have this one and their Historia Temporis and they are my most eccentric watches out of the norm. I don't wear them much but they are the ones that I like to look at the most, idk how to explain.

      What other watches/brands make this kind of design for the dial?

    In my eyes, this is up there with some kitsch plates you buy in touristic places. Oh, Venice you said? (damn!) ......right!

    I'm with you, I'm not sure how I would evaluate this for value. My grail watch is a Panomatic Lunar, so I appreciate a well designed decentrée dial, but they've really gone hard for maximalism here. I love the depth it seems to have, I love the aventurine, it's just that it just doesn't seem quite cohesive somehow. A house like Van Cleef and Arpels can do maximalism like nobody else, when it's done right, it's breathtaking. Here I think maybe they need to look again and find the right balance. They're close though, they're awfully close.

    The channel Watch-Art-Sci run by that cool old dude (I am literally older than he is so I am well within my rights to raz Bill :-) He has a recent vid with high horology on display as always & guess what? Most of the high 5 figure….even into 6 figures, amazing watches and a lot of them look very similar to your jewel today. Bill is starting to convert me. He really digs low VPH movements (he calls them “semi-oscillations per hour, “😄.
    I kind of dig this watch. Fine vid Shane. I got you on the big white bell and always look forward to your vids ☮️

    It's a beautiful and elegant two handed dress watch, which should never exceed 38 mm. 40 is too big. A real niche item, and I give them credit for taking risks with models like this and their ultrablack watches.

  • @astorbeijer9424
    @astorbeijer9424 3 месяца назад

    I think the size is perfect. This watch is ALL about the dial. 40 mm gives all of the individual details the room to breathe and space to be appreciated on their own. Any smaller, and it would feel too crowded.
    If I ever visit Venice; I would definitely buy this watch as a momento. I hope they were smart enough to open a shop, or both, in Venice. This watch would sell like hot cakes during the tourist season.

    I recently bought the green dial Redentore 40mm from them, I will say superb quality/value to price paid. Big fan of the brand now that I own one and will be watching future releases. This one is not for me, I appreciate what they are doing and always like to see unique designs, so kudos to them. I suspect they aren't anticipating on selling massive quantities of these? Perhaps, more for their local Italian audience?

    Form over function for sure. That's the point of this watch. While waiting to see the hands move, I was wondering whether the minute hand was going to pass over or under the St Mark's tower as i couldn't tell how much relief there was on the tower. Not my watch style but if one was connected to Venice it could be a great remembrance item.

    This is just about the only art watch I've ever liked. I do think they should get rid of the crown guards and use a flatter crown. This is a watch for a night on the town, not for daytime at all, imo. I was so prepared to dislike the Redentore Bellanotte but I find I love it.

    I love Venice, and don't hate this, but it's too over-the-top. When you think about the timelessness of the city, Oisín O'Malley's approach is a bit closer to how I'd want a piece that paid homage to Venice to look.

      This watch came out in Europe about two years ago. . Not sure if this is a new batch or they could shift the ones they made in the first place,
      I'd bet they couldn't get them to sell, I'd be careful who you promote with your channel as the subscribers can smell a cash grab

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  3 месяца назад

      @@Andy-ys8sj Are you sure you aren't thinking of a different Redentore model? There is a Redentore Historia Temporis that came out a few years ago. Looks like a coin with a relief of Venice on it. But as far as I know, this one with the multi-layer dial is brand new.
      Now assuming it is new... would you still consider it a cash grab, or just overpriced? There is a difference between the two.

    Very complex dial. I think the time telling is too off to the side and subdued. Add 30% more time telling dial diameter and I think it could be better. The black is eye catching.

      @RelativeTime  3 месяца назад

      I meant in general, that's one of the things I love about watches. There are two different sides: form and function. So you get something special when you find the right balance of both.

      @themicrobrandexpert 3 месяца назад

      Well, you opened your review of THIS piece with considerations on that topic. This isn't meant as a reflection on your work which I admire, but on the particular watch.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  3 месяца назад +1

      @@themicrobrandexpert True, but I don't show while talking about that. I wanted to set up the talk about form vs function, set the scene so to speak. So that when I do finally show it I mention to just keep that debate in mind. Then coming back to that at the end of the video to close it out.
      Maybe that wasn't the best approach, but you have a channel, so you know how it is. Figuring out how to start a video is sometimes the hardest part. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
