So cute. And the irritated look on the face of his teacher. Lol

I once fell asleep in a tournament as well. It was quite refreshing actually :)

If not for the goban between them, this feels like the moment before the student gets his butt kicked by the master for not paying attention in a martial arts movie.

I'm really surprised!?! That none of the commentators of this video, have made any comment about him possibly pulling a secret sleep Tesuji, to trick his opponent!. And Who better to try this on, to see if it really works with anybody, then his teacher!; The idea of this Tesuji, is to cause you're opponent to think that you are not prepared and or that you are too tired to win!!!

Haha how can he fall asleep? If it's a title match he is supposed to be focused and nervous and full of adrenaline. I can't imagine feeling sleepy in exams or tournaments even if I didn't have much sleep, because of nerves alone.

At the time though, the title games were played over two days, or at least one whole day, with hours of time for each player. It's impossible to stay in that high energy state for the whole game, especially when nothing is happening for so long.

Really focusing on a go board is exhausting. I’m as impressed that go professionals don’t all develop narcolepsy as I am by the moves. It’s just so draining! You have to use your entire brain and your entire brain will be all “ok, now i take little nap now k?”

I've fallen asleep in numerous exams. When you're sleep deprived, nerves don't matter.

Granted, I am nowhere close to the level these games happened at but once I was losing and went out to nap in the park for 15 minutes on my own time, came back and won the game. Mostly in byo yomi :-D

I am not strong at go unless fully rested. I don’t blame him at all. While it may, on the surface be disrespectful, I believe it is most honorable to give the best fight to your opponent, and if you need to rest in order to fight your best so be it 😉
