Replacing the ignition switch or cylinder in a 2010 Dodge Avenger (2008-14) - key binds, won't turn

- The key would occasionally bind in the ignition on this 2010 Dodge Avenger. I suspected that the lock cylinder tumblers were binding, which requires removal of the ignition cylinder from the dashboard in order to clean or replace the lock cylinder. This was a little trickier than I expected, so I thought I would make a video showing the critical steps required to do this since I couldn't find much online.
This video should help anybody who has an ignition problem in this generation of Dodge Avenger or similar Chrysler vehicle.
Don't forget to remove the rear passenger door and trunk lid...God I FKN HATE dodge
lmfao
This worked. Thanks. You saved me car shopping ;-)
Now this is a good teacher🐐
Excellent video very helpful 👍
I absolutely hate the dodge avenger. Between the TIPM and the weird dash light setup is absolutely shit! However, the mechanical stuff is good..engine transmission etc. But EVERYTHING attached to that, is shit.
Thanks for the video. I'm struggling with it now. I'm sorry, but I have to say this....FUCK!
Was the ignition switch the problem???
Invest in some tripods. Helpful video, sh1t got me dizzy lol
@@user-lh4ww5xs3x production quality is my last priority but you're welcome to mail me some
@@mfalasa good quality video just a suggestion. I left that triangular part crap out like you. Wasn’t needed.
This just happened to me today. Key came out but car still running. I’ve had nothing but problems with this car for the last 3 1/2 years. 5 months of payments left and I’m getting rid of this car. Everything is new on this no dash lights nothing, I baby this car but 3 weeks ago replaced both thermostats. Been through 8 thermostats already in the time I’ve had it. Now this, I will never own a dodge again.
Amen, will never buy a Chrysler product. Sounds like a faulty ignition switch.
Where is the steering wheel lock mechanism mine locked while driving and no is not working at all?.
You are really good😀
So you didn’t have to reprogram the immobilizer after changing the ignition switch? Changed the ignition switch and now it won’t start.
Did it ever start after?
No, not if you unplug the battery and don't damage the immobilizer.
So I'm having similar problem with my car i get a crank no start can you tell me if the ignition switch is replaced do i need it rekeyed cause of the chip
No, the immobilizer is separate and the ignition switch comes off the whole assembly
How do you remove the wires on the back of the instrument cluster?
I was able to tilt the cluster down, reach back and undo them. I can't remember but I think there was a tab to press down to release each connector
Will this make ur call stalling out bad when driving
No
Did u have to get the ignition programmed
No
Was It A Red Flashing Dot On The Car ?
No
@@mfalasa Okay Thanks
🐐
I have a red flashing dot in my car is this what's wrong is this what I need to do?
That's the anti theft/immobilizer.
So i also have to get a new fuse as well?
Only if you are an idiot like me. I sprayed graphite lubricant down the barrel of the lock cylinder while the ignition switch was still on it, then I tried to turn it on and the graphite lubricant shorted out the contacts on the ignition switch. If you avoid that you'll have no problem.
Do it need to be program ? Ignition switch
No
Question when you get a new ignition switch can I use my old key ?
@@tyeongordon1952 you can use your old lock cylinder and tumblers so the old key will work
LMAO at wrecking it or hoping it would get stolen.......
