but to what level?
@@DavidHust I use -14 LUFS.
Doesn’t work that well with multiple clips
@@reviewers183 I do it all the time and it works, some clips will need tweaking in spots, but it’s a good place to start.
This series of shorts are probably the most useful I've encountered on the platform. Thank you, again.
Wow! Thanks, Sean 😃
@@Daniel_Batalbackground sound need slow so both can here
Okay I have been watching these videos at random intervals but this one it is the most impactful I uploaded a near silent video and a deafening video before seeing this. Thank you so much!
Keep your loudness setting at -14. Keep your Resolve Bus meter peaking between -5 and -3. You'll get a good result.
@@Daniel_Batal hi daniel, so the bus meter high level -3 and bus meter low level -5, is that correct?
Do a vídeo explaining more about good voice setups @@Daniel_Batal
The tip I've never heard anyone else mention, even those focused on audio - thanks!
Oh man, this one is the most awesome tip I have seen so far.
Glad you think so!
It's unfortunate this can't be set through the Davinci Preferences and only set at each project settings. Just need to remember to do it every time a new project is made. Yes, I was always concerned if my music tracks were too loud or not loud enough. There are a lot of DVR tutorials out there but none that cover all the base requirements. They all assume we know all this. Thank you so much for your DVR videos. 😎👍
Yeah I noticed that too.
Its possible now
You can save it as your default settings for your whole library, it will be automatically applied to every new project you make in that library.
You can also save the preset to use in other libraries.
Needed this 7 years ago. :) I'm glad I found your page. Thanks my dude! Subscribed!
Welcome aboard!
As you know Daniel i followed your channel through the filmora days so now you have switched to Davinci this is one ride im looking forward to. Keep up the fantastic work my friend, with you we never stop learning. 🤟
Right on, John!
Great one. I never know if my audio is right. 👍
OH. I've had this trouble SO often! Super helpful.
Thank you Daniel, this tip is really helpful.
THANK YOU!
You're welcome!
Ahh everything i need about davinci resolve is here! I got volume problem when uploaded on youtube, Problem solve thanks a lot!
Don't have the time (or the energy) for another massive learning curve, but everytime I see one of these shorts I say, that's it I'm switching!! Brilliant series Daniel, thanks a bunch!!
My pleasure, David!
Thank you! These shorts tutorials are so helpful. First day using resolve!
RIght on! Hope you're having fun!
I do have some longer form content on my channel if you get stuck on using things like the Fusion Page.
Great advice, as allways! Thx a lot Daniel

Am a DR noob converting fro PPro. Thx for these tips!!!
my man! thank you for this!
Any time!
Have you got a video on how to render with best quality for RUclips?
Not for DR but I’ll consider that.
There’s not “one best setting” but certainly a conversation about what be right for different people
Wow! Extremely helpful

Great tip, and I know this is a RUclips short, so you can't get into the weeds, but would you agree that if you choose -14 for videos that are mostly talking as well as -14 for videos that are mostly music, then the videos with mostly music will sound too quiet, comparatively?
yes, Most modern music is mastered above -14 lufs. I typically master songs around -8 lufs (Imaster typically, rnb, hip-hop, afrobeats). -14 is "ok" but since we typically master songs for a plethora of platforms wole all have their own lufs standards louder is better. Also lufs is great but its not prefect. You could have 2 songs side by side that have a long term lufs of -13 and one song will sound louder than the other. The reason for this is dynamic range (not sure wether you know about dynamic range or not). Dynamic range is essentially the difference between your quietest and loudest parts of your audio. The less dynamic something is, the louder it can get. So lets say you had a video with constant music in the background (and your not compressing the audio on a master or overall) set to -14 lufs and compare it to a video with only dialogue. The video with music may actually sound a little bit louder because there is less of a difference between the loudest parts (the dialogue) and the qitest part (the music), in comparison to the only dialogue video, since its noise floor is much lower (either silence or quiet/minimal room tone/hum/noise).
I'm a big fan! Do any of the other controls, "bus meter" need to be adjusted?
Absolutely. Those are going to control your volume.
Make sure you understand the difference between LUFS (loudness) and video volume
could you do a video on how to make audio sound far away?
Noted!
I love those shorts of yours. what would you say is a good to go setting for talking audio and background music audio?
Totally depends on things like frequency response, tonality of your voice, type of music, etc.
I like to spend a lot of time with audio production.
EQ, Compression & Limiting are your keys to a well balanced mix ☮️
You're awesome =)
👊😎☮️
That's Cool
Ooooooh good one. Tonight i have been dying in audio edit hell in fcpx and i downloaded davinci. Hopefully it won’t choke on the video res and audio like fcpx
This might help too. ruclips.net/user/liveOr5nC0Ok5V4?feature=share
Any chance of a long form video where you show how one can use the compressor to get your audio up to -14 Lufs but keep the true peak at the preferred amount. I could be wrong but most other people Ive seen say around -1.5
LUFS is not the same as peak volume.
It’s the perceived volume.
You can still use Fairlight to set your peaks using both compression and limiters.
I personally don’t like overly compressed audio.
It sounds unnatural and can cause ear fatigue.
I did cover Fairlight quite a bit in a recent live stream: ruclips.net/user/liveOr5nC0Ok5V4?feature=share
Maybe it's a good idea to point out that this setting alone doesn't change the volume in a project, only the scale labels and colors of the meters in Fairlight for TP and Loudness are changed.
Volume and loudness are two completely different things.
I hope people understand compression, relative volume and loudness.
@@Daniel_Batal True. My concern is that someone might believe that the option shown would be enough to bring a video to the correct loudness level. It doesn't do anything other than label scales differently.
@@jensgeumann7564Thanks for answering my question before i could ask it xD but can i ask what levels i should have in the audiotracks in the editpage? Both peak and average?
@@Klarssem First the good news. With version 18.6 there is now the option to have the loudness output automatically on the render page.
The loudness levels can only be mixed in the Fairlight Page. In the edit page you can roughly mix the ratio of language, background music, etc. The specific levels depend on which platform I produce a video for (YT True Peak -1.5dBTP Loudness -14 LUFS). For the setting I then need a limiter and a compressor, as these two values in combination not only require the levels to be adjusted, but also the dynamic range.
@@jensgeumann7564 thanks for your answer. As I'm very new new to sounds and it seems pretty complicated. But if i get the ratio between the diffrent tracks right and use the new settings it should be good on youtube? my mic runs through the g-hub software so im pretty happy with how its sounds its just when i upload it to youtube it seems like it gets more squashed together and makes it bad. or will that just do what YT is already doing to my sound.
Does this negate the need for Normalization to the “RUclips” setting? Or, do you still recommend normalizing on render?
Normalization looks at peak levels.
Loudness deals with “perceived volume”.
Ever have two tracks that are at the same level on your meters but one seems louder?
So yes, use both
SO -14 for "RUclips and other platforms." I'm making a feature film (hopefully for theater or TUBI distribution, dreaming high here). Does the -14 setting apply here as well? Thanks.
For feature films you want to defer to industry standards.
It depends what type of audio (music only, dialogue only, mix, etc)
Though -14 is a pretty good Master target
🎉
Is this how you make your background music sound loud enough but not overpower the main track (narration)? 🤔
No, you’d want to use compression for that.
@@Daniel_Batal Cool, we'll have to look into that. Or, wait for it to come out on DVR for Noobs 😉
👏👏👏
What about if the end products are for broadcast and streaming. What are the LUFS numbers like?
-14 is a good target overall
How do you set these volume settings by default so you don't have to set them again in every new project?
Like this-> ruclips.net/user/shorts394uKxGSbsQ?si=_gu_J4xKoS-PWR7T
@@Daniel_Batal So, you've got an answer for everything, huh? Now you're just showing off! 😉
Thank you.
Will I have to set this every time I make a new project?
You can save your export settings--> ruclips.net/user/shortsd80FseptR3U?si=lrRJjF_ckc37BkrA
Hello Sir!
Will it cause peaking or just make audio loud?
Loudness and level (decibels) are two different things.
Make sure you understand the difference
Does this affect how loud it sounds during editing? Sometimes I need it quite loud, personally, during the editing process.
No, it’s a mastering setting for export
Would really help to say what else needs to happen. What if I don't use the Fairlight tab?
You don’t need to use the Fairlight page to set project LUFS limit.
It’s a project output setting
@Daniel_Batal oh, ok. Thanks!
I did hear you day that's all you have to do, but this really clarified that (since it gets baked in on the delivery page
Is this truly a button push solution or should I always adjust in Fairlight first?
Don't confuse loudness with level.
Level is the volume the meters show you in your mixer.
Loudness is the percieved volume to the human ear.
@@Daniel_Batal I've been adjusting my Levels per track and then Compressing and/or Limiting them to avoid clipping until I get close to the Loudness standard of RUclips.
Feels like I may be doing it backwards.
I think you’re still confusing volume level (decibels) with loudness.
You’ll want to set your LUFS to -14 for RUclips and then still learn the art of audio mastering on top of that to balance your final audio.
A good Spectrum Analyzer can help with that.
Give this a quick read and it might help: emastered.com/blog/lufs-vs-db
Is there a loudness meter somewhere in resolve that shows where we are at in terms of lufs?
Yes, in the Fairlight Page
@@Daniel_Batal thanks for the reply mate. When producing music we would normally measure the loudest part of the song, does same apply when creating video content?
If I want it to be very loud do I put the lofs level higher like -3 ?
No. You want to set the LUFS to be optimized for the platform you’re uploading to.
Don’t confuse loudness with volume.
@@Daniel_Batal Thank you so much !
I dont get why davinci by default doesn't have it -14 if that's the recommended.
It’s only recommended for certain platforms like RUclips.
Resolve is used to edit and color grade major motion pictures which have different parameters.
But, if you want to save it as a default--> ruclips.net/user/shorts394uKxGSbsQ?si=_gu_J4xKoS-PWR7T
Is setting it to -14 necessary due to the RUclips Render button in the Deliver tab?
Setting LUFS at -14 is because of RUclips’s audio optimization standards
@@Daniel_Batal I assume the RUclips render button would take care of the RUclips’s audio optimization standards.
It does in the sense that it applies compression. What we're talking about here is setting your export so that it is the most effective when said compression is applied. Not all audio uploaded is at the same volume and loudness.
Most people understand volume but ignore loudness. LUFS meters are useful for several reasons. First, they provide an objective and consistent way to measure loudness across different genres, styles, and sources. Second, they help you achieve loudness normalization, which is the process of adjusting the level of different tracks or programs to match a target loudness. This ensures that your listeners will not experience drastic changes in volume when switching between different platforms or formats.
Does having a audio clup to loud cause the audio to bug out and not play at all
Cause on my latest video, the audio cut out on the first door jumpscare
It’s usually system resource strain that causes lag.
@Daniel_Batal and one more question
I dont know how much you know about copyright
But i received a copyright claim for my latest video
It was from a video that i got from youtube that was labelled under creative commons/ copyright free. I have also linked the song in the video itself
What should i do
Should i dispute it or just leave it?
For more info, the song im talking about appears at 6.09 on my video titled fnaf part 2
Does filmora have that option too?
Not that I'm aware of or at least it didn't up to version 12
I have a question, this works even if my audio is too faint, right?
Don’t confuse loudness with volume.
Loudness is how loud a sound is perceived by an individual, while volume is a scientific measurement of the power of sound.
@@Daniel_Batal Now i am confused 😅
If i want a good loudness, i need to do the same u did with volume in the video, is that right? If not, then i would appreciate it if you can explain the whole thing, otherwise i don’t really get it. Thanks in advance 😊
-14 LUFS is optimal for RUclips.
Make sure your volume meters don’t peak too high
Doesnt seem to work for me
Make sure you understand the difference between loudness (LUFS) and volume
I tried this tip, my audio froze and still haven't gotten it working yet.
If your audio froze it isn’t because of this one feature, it’s more likely because you might be running resolve on a system that might not have resource capabilities to effectively run the software.
What are your system specs?
@@Daniel_Batal I'm sure you're right, I'm afraid I'm not very tech savvy. I had a friend who is install a GeForce 3050..? I want to say.. and souped it up in some other ways. I think he says I still need an SSD to replace the HDD. Is that right? I don't know
@@fullmeltxtractions2645 the 3050 is good enough for DR, but running on an HDD is a real problem, you shoul look for an SSD or even better an NVME SSD, just have to check if your computer have the m.2 slot.
You know noobs first use DaVinci Resolve free version not Studio so make all shorts for free version
I’m a noob and I started with the Studio version. Should I make all videos Studio features only?
@@Daniel_Batal No only free version cuz many of them use that
No, you use that… not everyone.
This channel will always cover ALL of the resolve features.
Not just what’s in the free version.
If you believe a channel should only cover the free features, I highly recommend you start a channel that does specifically that ☮️
