  • I needed a new pair if crimpers for making my own cables for jst sockets and such. I found these and really like them for the small crimps. They are more accurate than the "automatic" ones and gives a better result imo.

Yeah, I did it ! I spoiled many connector with a chineese tool until I discover your video. I ordered a plier from an Ebay seller in UK and it works. Thanks a lot for your advise.

Finally, someone who demonstrates it with proper crimping tools!
Would you care to show the steps of crimping concerning wire diameter etc ?

I might try, but Im still learning how to do a proper crimp with them depending on type of crimp and wire guage

Hi Karl, do you know any place in Scandinavia (assuming you''re scandinavian from your name) where you could get one of these? And any tips on a good wire stripper for servo wires?

Hi, I got mine from Ebay. Regarding strippers, i have the Knipex 11 02 160, which works well for smaller wires

Not to rib you, but you kept referring to Automatic. They aren't. You meant the ratcheting model. The ratchet does two things, holds the terminal while inserting the wire(s), and requires a full crimp before releasing. This helps provide a reliable repeatable crimp. Most label the die hole with the Metric wire size so that you get a proper crimp. Excess force weakens the wire and the terminal. Insufficient force leaves a weak, unreliable connection. You will notice a small toothed wheel on the ratcheting model, this is to set the crimp force and account for wear. Excessive force causes distortion of the terminal. The non ratcheting model requires skilled hands to provide reliable crimps, and always pull test your crimps. It is so much easier to recrimp now than when you have trouble shot your problem down to a faulty connection crimp. This happen more frequently when your hands are tired and not squeezing as hard as they once were 200 crimps earlier today. Thus the ratchet model avoids this common scenario.
I appreciate the post, I am forwarding it to my partner to explain what he needs to do in my absence. ;-)

All true, but they keep being refered to both automatic and ratcheting online, that is why i keep thinking automatic :)
I use ratcheting models for the larger crimps, like ringcrimps for cars, but like the size and style of these for small jst and similar connectors.

What about changeable die Engineer pad crimp? Does it replace the PA-09? Could I crimp same connectors as PA-09 / PA-21? The site is very unclear to me.

I couldnt figure that out either. I went for the "fixed" model since i rather have two tools rather than interchangeable things that will probably be missing when i need them..
