Thank you for highlighting this area! There are few doctors that really understand the impact of EPI. Dr. Freedman also has an in depth article on Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency written with Dr. Struyvenberg that anyone with EPI should read. Another really helpful resource was the book Primal Pancreas.
Over a decade have had issues with fats. Purchased book fats that heal fats that kill. Issues with bad and good fats. Noticed that 36 hours after eating at restaurants I would get back pain every time. G.I. issues got worse and worse. I would get sick with fried foods and could not eat above a low fat diet. Had a Exocrine Pancreas Insufficiency test that was well below 200. Normal range 200-1000. Got retested around 50. Put on enzymes. Improvement but still cannot eat fats. Recently bone density test and checked level of fat soluble vitamins normal.
Mine came at 190 . Should I be worried every time I eat something greasy my stools look aorangy and float (steatorrhea) I'm worried about it do you recommend something?
Just got diagnosed with congenital dorsal pancreatic agenesis after a contrast MRI. Not really sure what this means as I can’t find much online about it so I am trying to learn as much about the pancreas as I can.
I developed EPI for a few months after I had an mri with contrast. MRI contrast is made of gadolinium which is a very toxic heavy metal. It didn’t detox properly and settled into all of my organs and bones. My pancreas stopped working and my elastase came back ~80, severely insufficient. I had constant diarrhea and my stomach/intestines felt like they were set on fire every time I’d eat. Drs were 0 help despite abnormal lab work. I ended up buying N wobenzyme supplements by the Garden of life brand it took it and within a day could digest again without issues and took it for months then weened off and could digest food again.
@richiep3520 The specific dose as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist who filled the script of Creon needs to be taken JUST BEFORE you eat each meal. As the dietician pointed out in the video, a lot of patients (was it 70% she said?) are taking the medication incorrectly. When I started taking Creon it took about three years before I went near foods like bacon (which I never ate before except for having bites of other peoples meals to taste it), or lamb, pork chops, chicken skin, cheese or fish and chips. My EPI, diagnosed in 2015, is related to MS and demyelination of several cranial nerves.
@@LindaPerry_337I've tried it just before, half before and during some at start middle and end. It all mixes anyway within the short space of a meal. I've upped it to about 8 or 9 per meal instead of 6 suggested. Same outcome but a horrific smell after using bathroom. Creon just doesn't work well for me so I pop a few plant based along with them and it helps noticable amount, not perfect but better. I do eat some fat but lucky enough I don't reply suffer from any digestive pains or discomfort really.
I am having just a loose stool to diarrhea issue. No surgeries, I have a gal bladder. Just started about a year ago. I think I am having an issue with trans, sat, fats protein and some dairy. Either one of these are all, not sure because I can tolerate all foods it’s just at different times I can eat them and then others I can’t. IT’s like my enzymes in the pancreas are not fully working anymore and I wonder if EPI would be a good thing for me. Anyone else with a similar issue? Any pointers to what I should do next? My gastro just said to take more fiber. It’s not really making a difference.
First off just stop eating 'foods' with trans fat. It is not real food anyway - just deep fried rubbish or other processed 'food' and pastry. You mentioned saturated fats? Are you eating too much red meat in a week? Two servings of beef or lamb or pork is sufficient to get your iron. You may be intolerant of lactose, the sugar naturally present in dairy milk. Or you may be intolerant of casein a protein found in dairy, it also gives a pale bowel movement. My EPI produced bowel actions (BA) which coated the toilet bowl in a layer of whitish fat, it caused clogging of our toilet. My husband treated the toilet to it's own enzyme therapy too for several months to rectify the clogginess.😆 My BA were obviously very fatty, floating and pale. The smell is very strong and fatty.

@@venomxx1451 My doctors put me on pancreatic enzymes. Zenpep. Retested a couple weeks ago. Improved to 73. Talk with your doctor.

omg. thanks for sharing this. I'm wondering was I given this for a colonoscopy.
Really is a daily struggle having epi. No amount of creon helps. Pain, nausea, gas, greasy stool. Every day, no relief. I wish perts worked for me 😕
I feel the same im scare and feel alone and wonder if is going to be good with time o worse 😢
I have EPI too. I have heard that changing which PERT you are taking can help if the one you're taking isn't working well enough. Just a thought.
@@maryharrington1857 I have heard this too but unfortunately in my part of the world, creon is the only one available. Thanks for suggesting though 🙂

Just add Ox bile and treatment plan is complete. Thank me now.
