Correct decision by the ECB which is trying to protect its own domestic league and reduce excessive cricket for the players. Even the BCCI dosent allow the Indian domestic players to play leagues around the world.
@stevenbox4523 it's a exception since players get payed millions compared to pennies in other leagues and the boards also gets a significant share of the money that they earn
Instead of making it IPL, they should just make it one league. So, you can play in one league during this time. This mean someone who does not get into IPL. Only 80 international players can even get into IPL (8 max international in each squad ) and typically ~10-12 ECB players. This means you don’t allow the rest of the players who don’t get into IPL auctions the ability to earn.
This is an excellent move by the ECB! Players should not be allowed to hop from league to league. The game loses credibility and makes it vulnerable to corruption.
You want rise of cricket, then just introduce a club/franchise cricket tournament like the UEFA Champions League . Just imagine CSK VS Middlesex at LORDS
Players shouldn't be allowed to join a leage whilst a league they signed up is on going. So for instance, if Pooran is playing in the SA T20. He can't join the BPL or ILT20 until the SA T20 is completed.
Just another example of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. If you are going to make a stance, why dont you include the IPL also? All this does is impact the poorer countries and the quality of their t20 leagues which hinder their revenues and ability to compete with the big 3 in the future
Great thing imo, i think with holding english player for english summer is great for cricket. They can play 2 or 3 leagues and make a decent income, an area where country and individual intrests both meets with max benefits and less compromises is the way to go
A sport cannot be a hit with a mass audience when there are various formats of play and players join and leave leagues and clubs all over the world. What is supposed to resonate with fans? Do away with ODI and save test cricket for special occasions like The Ashes. Then, make up your mind what works better with fans, The Hundred or T20, and go for it. Build a franchise league with 16 teams and have a six months long season. Sort teams into two conference and split each into two divisions of four teams. Structure every team’s schedule favoring lower travel distances and comparable quality of performance, like the NFL does. For example, a team could play the other three teams from their division six times each, and the four teams of the neigboring divison within the same conference four times each, for a total of 18+16=34 inner-conference games. Additionally, a team could play the four teams from one divison (changing annually) of the other conference twice each, for a total of 8 more games, bringing the total up to 42 games. Lastly, based on last year‘s performance, a team could play two additional games against those three teams who finished in the same spot in their division‘s table as you did, for another six games. Thus, your regular season could be 48 games in total, with every team‘s schedule being a different (12,5 to >50% between any two teams) due to schedules being regionalized and weighted based on last year‘s performance. After the regular season, you have playoffs with 8 teams (each round being a best of 5 format). Long story short, follow the American example.
The issue is having an exception for IPL, yes it’s the most popular but it means the rule isn’t consistent and you’re unintentionally strengthening India to a disproportionate amount.
The IPL is a exception cause it's one of the top five biggest sports league in the world and brings added revenue for the boards as a percentage of the fee that a player gets sold in the auction
@@isaacnewton3514 you mentioned the popularity of ipl and not the significant revenue that the cricket board gets as a percentage of the amount that a player gets in the auction so no cricket board will intentionally bar its players from earning the IPL riches
@@notorious_newWell it’s what I was implying, popularity, money, growth. My point still stands that if you’re banning all your Nation players from franchise EXCEPT IPL, you’re strengthening Indian Cricket so much that it will ruin International Cricket. So either you ban all or you ban none.
All the national boards should do the same. Make no exception for the IPL either - why should they be the exception?... This will now be the death of the poorer nations... Don't undervalue what they earn from their local T20 leagues to keep all the formats going.
They won’t play for their country. They would rather play IPL. Why will they play for their country if they can earn 20-30x more playing in IPL plus other leagues ?
They shouldn't be making exceptions for any league. The players are complaining about too much cricket and yet they are globe trotting and playing in all of these pub leagues. If they want to reduce the numbers of the games they are playing it shouldn't be at the detriment of the counties that are giving them contracts year after year. They should say if you're contracted to a county you are available for selection for every game that county has throughout the season. If you want to play IPL you can but you must be back in the country for the start of the county season. The only time you are excused from a county game is to play for your country.
Excellent decision. Why should English players be able to choose from representing the Texas Rocks or whatever they call themselves, over say Warwickshire, and not have any consequences? Yes they are free to make their money, and they are also free to leave the English county system. But why should they have both?
Making an exception of the IPL is going to benefit the better players - actual or potential test players. The ECB can't afford to p**s off these players - hence the exception. Of course, they will be allowed (encouraged?) to play in The Hundred which, unless I am very much mistaken, clashes with proper County cricket.
It’s also going to benefit India even more. They already have a second team that is better than most of the other countries, soon enough they’ll have a third team that’s better most other nations. Then India will have to consider splitting to North India and South India to accommodate so many International players (crazy theory but we could reach that point 😂)
@@isaacnewton3514 yeah that is obvious but cricket boards don't think like that and many ex cricketers have already acknowledged the squad depth that India has
Lot of snowflakes in the comments section, they had no problem when county teams pulled off dutch intl's from WT2O but has problem with IPL with a seperate window 😂
The players are shamelessly earning money from BCCI. They are greedy for the money the owners throw at them. The whole England team is essentially playing IPL. Then the England board shamelessly takes a cut from that money. 85% of revenue in cricket is generated by India.
Please don’t force your old crap test cricket.if people loves t20 then you need to accept it in past I didn’t like test cricket because it had no purpose but since WTC came I like test cricket so it’s all about personal choice.
If the ICC creates windows that benefits all of the leagues as they can work out how the MLC/CPL can fit within the english season. That makes sense to me. The way ECB are doing this will force a choice and I'm not entirely convinced they will grant NOCs for players who are essentially free agents but have some association with the counties. My guess is this is precisely because they dont want to pay enough for the blast and 100 to retain players. So i think it ends up with english players making some hard choices and maybe not being party to english cricket in favor of franchise leagues.

Completely agree with the idea of having ‘league windows’ Jan-Feb, Apr-May and Aug-Sep, and each team can only play for three overseas teams in a year
