Cutting Uprooted Oak Tree into Firewood

- Today we are heading out I to the woods to cut up an oak tree that uprooted last fall. The tree was on the bank of our pond, and luckily fell away from the water. This is a decent sized tree and will provide a food amount of firewood.

12 hour night shifts, uhgg been there done that, but never again for me.
Nice little set up for getting wood out.
That is a nice buggy.
i think i told you one time before.... that firewood will keep you warm twice.... lol..... great vid.... nice wheeler....
Nice video. Beautiful wood and I love the way you keep your axe on the side of the trailer.
I wish you a nice year from France.
I have friends in Provence..
Good idea splitting the big pieces in place. No need to be Superman here. 🙂
The Stihl chain seems to be dull. It takes too long and produces dust.
Great job! Love watching Ur videos! Would like to see you back on the Ails Chamers and need to fix the top on the wood shead!
That Fiskars makes quick work of those rounds. Nice looking wood lot.
I've found wood is easier to split if the round is set to where the portion toward the top of the tree is on the top side.
That is the power of a log arch with balloon tires it can haul logs out of we swampy areas you would never want to bring equipment into using a winch to pull off other trees to get it to a spot you can hook up to it with a truck/tractor/atv to haul back to saw up or cut into rounds to split. Also no destroyed ground or mud in the bark of the tree from dragging it.
I worked those 12 hour night shifts and they are not fun, but when I went back to 12 hour days, I liked it a lot better!
Great job
There's a lot of good lookin lumber in there!!! You could build your new shop out of a lot of your standing lumber.... and still have the tops for firewood
What was that green thing at 3:38? Is it a marker to know where to cut?
Good
dont think you can ever have enough fire wood.
Great video ,just wondering what kind of work do you do ?
Actually trying to chop up a downed oak tree and the chain I currently got isn't doing the job, would you tell me what type of chain you're using?
Hey do you live in arkansas
👍🏼
If you are not taking advantage of the wood that's less than 4", you are leaving good, already downed wood behind.
Anything less than 4” in diameter is t worth the time it takes to harvest it and stack it.
It burns up too quick and doesn’t produce much heat
@Nick Price Takes less time to cut it than to split larger wood. And some of the wood is being split down to 4" anyway. 4" split wood produces the same heat as 4" non split. In fact, the branch portions of a tree often produce more btu's than the trunk.
@@shanebrewer530 ask anyone that uses a wood stove to heat their home or shop and I bet they all tell you the same thing. A 4” piece of split wood produces more heat and burns better than a 4” solid branch. Un split wood just doesn’t burn wel
@@nickprice7752 never had an issue in 45 years.........
@@nickprice7752A split piece burns quicker and branches are more dense than the trunk because when the tree grows to a 20" diameter the branches have the same w
Amount of time but are smaller (take longer to get big) and are therefore more dense
G'day, Wishing you, your family, subscribers and your fellow Americans safety and good health in the coming months.
Watch out of the up root trees. You start cutting off the weight and it can flip back up and you won’t see it coming
Great job Evan. Good looking bunch of firewood you have on hand. How is the new puppy doing, is Maggie tolerating him more ? 🤞🤗 Thanks for sharing with us. Fred.
Dang, my back hurts just watching you lift those logs! I hope Rebekah is a good massage nurse. Take care and always be safe.
Great video as always! Prayers for Rebekah during this health crisis.
She's a nurse? Big-time RESPECT!!!
Need to take care of that back.
Stay on the farm, keep away from coronavirus! 😷
I bet it smells great where you stacked it Evan-
I LOVE your woodshed! Hope to build one like it!why dont you cut the branches you were running over? Would have made it easier to drive.
I hauled 8 cords in 3 days with my ATV and Polar trailer.
Those trailer works great
No one will have to rock you to sleep tonight. You did more than three days work in one day more than the average guy would do.
Oak doesn’t dry until it’s split.
I like watching these videos, but I like living in the South where I don't have to do that more😂😊👍
I *love* that you use the same music as your "theme" song. 🎵 🎶
Check out this RUclips channel, MotoCheez. He's got a Japanese mini truck and uses it around his property to haul all kinds of stuff and goes anywhere. A lot less money than an ATV or side-by-side. He jas bought 2 or 3 of them from a place in New Jersey (nwminitrucks.com). I think you're in Illinois or Indiana? If so, road-legal up to 35 mph (with tag) in Illinois. Any road in Indiana except for Interstates.
liked vid, If I may tell you look into some log tongs, got mine on amazon. (think mine are 8" & 12" They really help your back you're not bent over as far and can be used on bigger logs than you might think.
Love the frogs in the background!
Hi I'm Lir and this is my prefered job I can't do anything else,I'm lazy about other jobs ,i wish i had this opportunity
Sehr gut gemacht.

Bei mir in Germany.
☝️😃♥️
That wood isn't stacked up. It's piled up. I used to do that for my older neighbor. Once her husband died. My brother would cut and I would use wedges and sledge and split then stack rows.
I would of grabbed biggest pieces 1st. Then move up the trunk. So by the end, as toredness hits, pieces are small and light
Are you supporting a refueling outage? 12 hour night shift for 3 weeks certainly sounds like a refueling outage. Just wondring.
One of the things I enjoyed the most doing... Now I have no land and I have to buy my firewood... Lame...😕
Wow, it's about time Stihl got with it and sponsored you! Stihl has the finest chain saws and for that fact products in the world, but they lack in certain departments! Great vid my friend, keep them coming, we are depending upon you fine folks to keep us entertained during the extremely sad time! 👌 Keep up the fine videos!
I like huscavarna
I use my Ohio Steel wagon the same way. It's a great tool.
just wait
Great job🤗🙂🙃
Are you the guy that ended up with all the toilet paper during the "pandemic"? :)
Great video, thank you for taking the extra time to set up the camera. I did think it would be much easier to just move those large branches than negotiating the buggy over them.
pleas emake a viedo of you firing up and filling the wood stove fireplace
hi there just dropped in looking at other you tubers doing the same thing good job john
In my next life, I'm going to find a man like you! 😀
Evan, rounds look a little short. Are you cutting 16” for the fire place. Beautiful log would have been nice for lumber as well but great for firewood
Yes, 16" rounds. Easier to lift.
That is a lot of warm Winter nights right there ! 🔥👍🤠
Back breaking
You should do a goat care video
Hi ! how much guide length 60 or 70 ?
I started with Woodprix plans.
I cut my own firewood, so I can use everything that will fit in my stove. LOL I drop the tree then get rid of the small stuff anything smaller than my thumb. then start at the top and cut everything bigger than my thumb into 16" lengths , I try to use as much of the tree as possible, as little waste as I can . I know this may take a little longer than some will want to take but I work by myself and only use it myself. I am 76 years old now and I like spending time in the woods doing something I enjoy, about 2 1/2 months a few 4 hour days a week and that get me about 6 cords.
Good workout for the new saw.
Really nice video, good work. What is the name of the music and the Artist, the music really complemented your video.
nice pile of rounds C.V.A. that's how I get mine out. only 3 wheels.later on dude
Get yourself a splitting wedge. If you have one nevermind. That's alot of work. In other words, a young person's task.
Watching you do all that just wore me out LOL. Been there done that plenty. I do try to take my splitter to where the tree is if possible. That way when I cut it I can split it then haul it to a wood stack saving me from having to handle it as much. I realize that it's not always possible to do so. I just cut up and split a bunch more Oak and Hickory that will hopefully be ready next season.
I do know what 12 hour shifts are like for an extended period of time. I did that while I was in the Navy (which it's normal on a ship). I also did so in my civilian job after 9/11. It's not fun and is taxing. One key thing, at least for me was to eat well and stay hydrated.
On a final note, I hope you and your bride are doing well during this pandemic that we are going through. If I recall correctly she is a health professional. I do hope that she is able to have access to proper PPE. We will get through this and your videos are even more of a help to me being "quarantined" at the moment. I don't have the illness, but as a safety precaution we are supposed to do so. I just wonder how long I can take it before "cabin fever" kicks in.
Hi my friend you have done a great job, nice place, nice land, nice engine, nice carriage, what region are you from? I'm from Greece Florina and now with coronavirus you do the best job.
You need a wood splitter
Good job money in the bank
This is proof that Minecraft is very unrealistic.
Great video and you're right, if it ain't split, it ain't worth s#%t as Gramps used to say. Thumbs up !!
Save me some.
There is something sexy about watching a man chop wood , Lawd , Lawd !
kova
Hi your great good l look larger wood up mix oak and hard 👍🏾😎💪🏼
You did a good job with the oak tree and you have a good supply of firewood.
That’s a good idea to split it right there when they get to be heavy. I never thought of that .
Thx
I thought that the stump was going to stand up on you , before you got it cut
😍😍😍
Did anyone ever tell you that you have paradise all around you keep safe
Great video as usual. Hows Rebecca doing at her job with all the coronavirus stuff going on? I'm a paramedic with my first kid on the way so it's a bit more nerve racking than if it was just myself! Hope you guys are staying safe. Be careful on the night shifts both of you. Do you plan on keeping up with videos with everything going on?
The world is changing fast. Rebekah is doing good, lots of shifts for her to pick up. We take it one day at a time. But I still hope to make a few videos while working nights.
Jkdubs2 have you considered home birth? It is safe, and would avoid having to subject your wife to a hospital and sick people, especially since you are a paramedic. Do the research, you may be surprised.
You need to off the deep end and find a good used side by side
Nice stack of firewood you have there . 12 hr night shifts can be rough . I'd rather work a night shift than a day shift . I'm night person . I have worked many a night shift . LOL . If I wanted to do anything it would have to be first thing after got home . Once in bed I was done and there was no way I was going to get up early and do some work around the house . That's what days off are for . LOL
Grate video love washing you guys when are you guy's going to clean out the other side of your barn .?
