I have a 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro 4x. It's a simplistic truck, no fancy gimmicks but enough tech to keep it modern and safe. It's a capable offroad truck too. The engine has been around for a few years now and seems to be problem free, and updates to the 9-speed have ironed out all the problems. Remember though Nissan never set out for the Frontier to be the best midsize truck, but to have a very capable truck that does everything competently which it does. Complaints are no telescopic steering wheel and limited power seat options, both minor. I paid $48k CAD out the door with extra 1 year warranty and 3M protection. I am very happy with the truck. Toyota have done well with the new Tacoma design, time will tell how the turbo 4 will hold up. Tundra has been plagued with turbo issues.
watch transmissions ... after 60K love to break down for factory design flaws !!! mine mix engine water with transmission oil on a NISMO 4x4 frontair special edition !!! what a lemon !!
@perrooceaniko2005 I had the recent TSB on my transmission as it was awful in cruise control and would drop gears. Since the update, I've had no issues but I'm only 10k kms in. Sorry to hear about yours. What year?
I really appreciate calling out Made in USA. Only review I’ve seen do this. Thanks! It’s very important that when I spend $30-40 thousand dollars as much of it as possible goes to my neighbors / country economy. If I lived in Mexico, made in Mexico would be important.
I’m a Firefighter and everyone and their brother has a Taco, when looking for a new truck I was pleasantly happy with the Pro4x, at 40k brand new out the door I couldn’t pass it up. Have driven plenty of tacomas and not a fan, I’ve rented them on multiple wildfires and they do well off-road and I was curious to see how a Frontier did so my next assignment I was able to get a Base SV and loved it more than the TRD Tacoma and that’s what made me buy my Pro4x and I’ve been very happy and people seem to really like the truck.
I have a 2023 Titan, and it is a great truck. The steering is no big deal after a day or so. Hydro - boost brakes on mine which I like a lot. I think Nissan builds some pretty good engines as well. My 5.6 liter has a lot of power. My truck looks just like this one only a little larger. Nismo exhaust is good upgrade, although it's expensive. You trade vehicles a lot, but I think the Frontier is a good choice and a good value. The only forums that I have seen with happy owners are the Titans & the Tundra's with the 5.7 V8. Nissan's don't receive much love, but you can't please everyone!! 😁
I owned a 2017 Titan Platinum with that GREAT V8 engine! Sold it and bought a 2022 Tundra 1794 non-hybrid. Great truck, but my mpg on Titan was better by 3.5 mpg over Tundra😡. So much for saving gas with twin turbo V6🤯
@@Karlkn , I think they are great trucks and do what they are supposed to do. Many don't like the fact that Titan's aren't all digital, with all the bells & whistles. I had that in other vehicles and usually it becomes a problem, trip to the dealer. I get 16 / 16.5 city and 18 / 20MPG on a road trip. Decent for a truck with a V8.
I’ve had my Nissan Frontier Pro-4X for two years and love it! I just towed 6,000lbs on the highway and it sat around 2,000rpm. I was totally impressed at how it towed that weight with ease, and I got 15.5mpg on that trip while towing!
I purchased my Frontier Pro4X last month in January. Being a Ford guy, I was torn between between the Ranger, Tacoma and Frontier. I love the look of the Frontier Pro4X. Also being an old school guy, I didn't want a turbo. So happy I bought the V-6 Frontier Pro4X, it has plenty of power. I've been driving it for weeks now. I had to move my wife's Subaru a day ago. I can't believe how much I love my Frontier's hydraulic steering now that I am used to it. If the Tacoma got 5 mpg more, it might be worth it. The front tow hooks on the Frontier are definitely more easily accessible. The price was definitely worth it for what you get in my opinion. Keep up the great videos.
Looked at the Pro4x not too long ago. Love the way they look and love that they stuck with the V6. I couldn't justify the $40k price tag though so I got myself a used Tundra instead.
I bought a 2023 Pro 4x in November last year. Traded in my Genesis G80 Sport for it (which was reliable)but I live rurally and need a truck. I love the simplicity of the truck but still feels and looks modern. It drives like a truck with no fancy gimmicks but enough tech. Oil changes are a breeze!
To tell you the truth, I don't know. I haven't taken it out on the highway yet so I haven't been paying attention to what it is getting around town. I assume it won't be as good as the Tacoma or Ranger, but I don't care. I love this truck so far. It's cheaper than both of those and has all the features I could want. And it rides pretty darn nice.
FRONTIER!! Love Toyota’s in general lot more than most Nissans (esp. non-trucks), but the Frontier is long proven and that V6 is a proud stander vs. the EPA pressured new 2.4L turbo Taco
I bought a frontier because the Toyota tax has gotten out of hand. Toyota fans are blind to their problems and will defend them even 😂. I have a 2020 with the new v6 and 9 speed. Zero issues so far. Zero. Off-road, heavy towing, local work, it just does well at everything.
You've said in other videos that you are a Toyota truck fan, so stick with what you prefer. This video is really about the decision you've already made about your Toyota preference.
I'm neither a Toyota or a Nissan guy, but, after a lot of investigative work and my own level of best bang for your buck, I would say Nissan Pro-4X would be my choice! I rhink interior is much nicer and much more option upgrades than the Tacoma! Try a build and price in Canada and you should be able to make a solid decision from there.
I got me a 2023 Nissan Frontier P4X June 23, I love it, loaded with all options, I like the V-6 power and the 9 speed transmission is fine. Comfy zero gravity leather seats helps a lot on long drives, truck cruises great down the roads. Comfortable truck and looks sharp. 50k out the door for mine. Only thing I don't care for is the OEM Hankook tires, IMO not good on wet roads, rear tires spin too much, but I will live with it and burn them up. Also the v-6 is better than a turbo engine.. Turbo engines run hotter and require more maintenance. Also Z-1 OffRoad offers lots of goodies for the Frontier and Titan trucks, one thing I purchased from Z-1 is the high lift hood struts, makes a big difference for us tall guys, and I get the Nissan service kit for oil changes from them to.
Tacoma quality and reliability are undeniable. But they are priced a bit high for many people. This pricing would be understandable if they were made in Japan. Building vehicles(creating jobs) in Mexico where labor costs are considerably cheaper and charging a premium selling them in the States, after saving $ on manufacturing/labor costs, is just greed. That being said, if I were in a position to spend more, I would've bought a 2023 non turbo Tacoma. Needing just a base level work truck, I will probably get a 4×4 Frontier S king cab. Thanks as always for your thoughts Sir.
I’m looking to get the 2024 TRD Sport in the non hybrid version. The new Tacomas are very pricey and I think the Sport is the best value for the money. It’s going to be over $40,000 with the Premium package. No one knows how expensive the Tacoma lineup with the I-Force Max engine is going to be and when it will be available. I don’t tow or do off road extreme excursions so the TRD Pro and Trailhunter are off the table for me. The TRD Sport will be available with the I-Force Max engine but I think it will be close to $50k and you lose the under seat storage. Also consider that the hybrid engine is not designed for better fuel mileage but rather for torque. I’ll be interested to see which pickup you choose.
A lot of people discredit the Nissan frontier when it's already been on record that there is a frontier with over a million miles just like the Tacoma. As far as off-roading, I definitely do moderate trails. I think both vehicles will do pretty much even because both neither has a front locker, has a rear locker, both are IFS, both are solid rear axles. I think where these vehicles differentiate is with towing. Tacoma is using coil spring which is inferior to a leaf spring when it comes to towing. I also can't imagine towing with the same size engine as my wife sonata. I'm sure the Toyota Tacoma can tow but I do feel with just four cylinders. It is going to have to work harder than six cylinders. if you're going to tow moderately, I would trust the v6 and leaf springs. I would still buy the new gen Tacoma for my wife. But as far as towing I would just use my frontier.
I've had 2 nissan trucks in the past. An 85 King Cab 4 cyl manual trans 2wd the only major repair was a new clutch. It went 254000 miles before it blew a head gasket.. I then purchased a 2001 Frontier King Cab 4 cyl manual 2wd and its still running to this day with 210000 and consistently gets 26 mpg. The only major repair was an exhaust manifold. I dont think you can go wrong with a Nissan. I'm currently driving a 22 Ford Ranger only because it has the best fuel economy of all the mid size. I'm currently averaging 24-25mpg in mixed driving. On a long trip interstate 40 east from Las Vegas into New Mexico I got 27.4mpg. all of these are hand calculated mpg as the dash calculated mpg's are at least a mile or two off. I looked at purchasing a Nissan but being they no longer offered the 4cyl and I didnt want the poor fuel economy of a 6cyl. Cant go wrong with a Nissan if you dont mind a poorer mpg's
I bought the model in the video, (same color as well) back in September. It's a awesome truck. It feels like a truck with the heavy steering and large powerful V6. The cabin is quiet and it's the fast vehicle I've ever owned. The seating position is far superior to the sit-on-floor Taco, and the seats are amazingly comfortable. I did not want a Taco mainly because around here you can't drive a city block without seeing one. I can drive days without seeing a current model Frontier.
Real truck guys buy the Frontier. Because they know what matters, fully boxed frame that doesn’t rot and fold (like tacoma does) and a bulletproof powertrain.
I love the Frontier after my test drive I fell in love. This comes from someone who had a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off Road for 3 years and it was extremely uncomfortable on long road trips
Can’t really go wrong with either…but I love my 2023 Frontier Pro 4x. Added accessories, lift, wheels etc and I get many compliments in parking lots. 😊
@andrzejczuk2573A much smaller turbo 6s and you still can't get the 2.7 turbo on the ranger while the other is only available on the raptor. I'd definitely be interested in the 2.7 turbo because it seems like a solid engine, but they advertised it yet won't let anyone order it.
also leads the industry in recalls.. I dont know if I want to risk that... and no I had no idea Fords "quality" had fallen so far till I started researching(because this wasn't always true) this wasnt even true las time i looked at vehicles... I dont know what happened to them to be honest, id actually waited till NOW to research and when i was looking at the older ranger(last model like a 21-23) id read a lot about them..now I cant say im not concerned about the sheer number of recalls.@@tammieandrzejczuk2573
Based on your actual vehicle choices that you have showcased, David, I know you will not purchase the Frontier. But it is definitely the value buy for most Americans looking for a practical truck. I had a '98 manual transmission Frontier which I loved, and now have a '21 Tacoma TRD OR which I love.
I had a 2012 NIssan Frontier SV and it served me very well for many years. I now have a 2022 Tacoma SR5 which I love. If I were you I would get the Nissan for now, enjoy a very reliable truck and when the Trailhunter comes out get that - either a trade-in or keep both. Or you could get the 2023 V6 Tacoma and trade it in later since it will have the best trade-in value. Thanks for all the great videos. Look forward to seeing your review of the TRD Pro or Trailhunter.
For a truck that will be in the dirt and rocks that is too much of measuring the gap. Motor is good V6. Looks good and if having the cash get the Pro 4X with the luxury package. It is sturdy and good and has decent towing rating.
Get the Nissan PRO-4X! The Trailhunter looks awesome but will be 15-20 k more! I have a 2022 and for the price and value you will appreciate it. Drives great and gives you what you need and more for much less. Get a trailhunter in 2 years once the markups go away!
I bought a 1983 (and a half, first year changed from Datsun to Nissan) Frontier for work and the only mechanical issue in eight years was a bad fuel pump. The quality is fine, you will only regret the purchase when the trade in price comes around. If you don’t need it now though I would wait for what you’re heart desires.
I have a 2006 Frontier Nismo with over 260k and never had a problem with the engine. Decided to get a 2023 Pro4x with the Premium package and I love the truck. Also love Toyota because I had multiple 4Runners in my life. If I have to change my new Frontier it would be only because I love the new Tacoma model and the resale value. Nothing else.
Had a 2003 tundra for 20 years which was unbelievable. Decided to get a tacoma until i test drove the frontier and for me it was a no brainer .I choose the frontier and so far loving it and it looks great blacked out
Recently purchased a 2023 Armada. So far, my only disappointment is, the driveline has surface rust (on steel parts and the black iron parts). Seems to be a common issue on Nissan's. I have looked on the lot at other brand new Armada's...same issue as mine that i've owned for 6 months. But value for the vehicle is great and it's a V8.
Great review…when I was considering a truck I wasn’t even looking at the Frontier. But based on cost, ruggedness, and reliability surprisingly I would have to give the Frontier a test drive.
I had two 3rd gen Tacomas and seriously thought about getting a Fronteir for my next truck. The fit and finish was much better on the Nissan, and the price wasn't as inflated. I also really like the steering weight.
I just bought a 2022 Titan with very low miles. I am very happy with it and the mileage for a v8 I feel is very good 23 mpg on an interstate 2 hour trip. I’m also wondering how durable the new Tacoma will be since it will now be turbo charged.
I would like to see you get the Nissan Frontier for right now because I think it would give you a better prospective having owned both vehicles. I really like your videos,
I just bought the 24 frontier pro 4x pro and went on a 1200 mile trip in it to get grandkids and it was very comfortable didn’t wear my body out I think I made right decision especially for the price
I used company old 2016 frontier 5 speed SV , it had been 140,000 miles , with heavy duty work , it is on going and going based on 4 L engine , I am considering purchasing Frontier 2024 SL for my own go to truck for winter in VA. No turbo .
Great video, Love my Pro4X, as reliability Tacoma vs Frontier, the Frontier is a million mile truck. I’d say it depends on the owner when it comes to how long the truck will last between these too.
Thank you David for responding so quickly I am located in New Mexico Albuquerque to be exact. Thank you for reiterating my belief on the value of the Tacoma, especially the trail edition. There were only a handful sold in my town. I paid $48,000 and with all the changes coming to the new Tacoma I think I don’t that’s an unreasonable amount to ask. Can you offer some advice on what would be an acceptable depreciation value if I should entertain offers?? Thank you again Steven.
The auto world tends to bias towards innovation and novelty. The main reason I got a Frontier, and why I still like it, is that it is still an old school 4x4 truck. Yes it has some updated tech, as all vehicles do nowadays, but it isn’t excessively novel. It’s a new package sitting on a proven powertrain architecture. I don’t have to rationalize about why I would be confident in trying to bring a 4 cyl turbo up to 200,000km, or rationalize teething issues landing on the laps of the customers.
Friends was looking to Trade my Tacoma for a New 2024 Tacoma. Disappointed on the engine size open the hood and looks like spaghetti. Power steering electric , price , and availability are reasons for my purchase of a Nissan Frontier pro x. If in the market check it out & you'll like it even buy it.
When it comes to vehicles over the long haul the simpler the better. If you plan on holding onto the vehicle for 10 years or more advantage Nissan. I have 2021 Frontier King cab S and absolutely love it. Just enough tech to be functional but not tech for the sake of tech. That's my two cents anyway.
Hi Dave. Thanks so much for your insight into the 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro and Trailhunter. I have the same thoughts as you, and I'm considering purchasing the Tacoma TRD Pro with iForce hybrid when it's released. I like the horsepower and torque specs with respect to the engine efficiency and MPG. However, I've been looking at the Frontier Pro-4X with the Technology package, Pro-Premium package, and Pro-Convenience package. The Pro-4X with these packages offers all the safety and technology features at a much better price point. I also like the tried and true V-6 and power train. My question is this. Toyota has stated that all the information for the new Tacoma's will be released in early spring 2024. They are also slated to start production then. Why is there no inventory of new Tacoma trucks right now, and why is Toyota waiting so long to release cost and MPG specs?
If you don't NEED it, I would wait. If you have the money, don't need to finance, willing to take the hit at trade in and just want something now, get the NISSAN. I really like the TRD PRO but I don't think I would use that gimmicky seat. I also like the Trailhunter but I don't like the wheels, the top rack or the headache rack. I think the TRD Offroad would suite me better. But, that's just me. Good luck, whatever you do.
I just sold my 2018 Tacoma trd off-road 160,000 miles and bought a Nissan pro4x I’m not a turbo fan. My original call to my Toyota dealer was left un answered. Maybe in a few years or so we will see how the turbos handle the strain and low cooling air flow on off road applications.
The Frontier was largely dismissed when it came out in 2022; however, people are starting to see the benefits mainly due to the stack of cash on the hood. Nissan is ready to deal on a great variety of vehicles. The Frontier is a solid choice in the med-size market space.
David, The factors of reliability and trade in value would be enough for me to stay with Toyota, then trade when the Tacoma that you really want arrives.
I have seen a few videos of the 2024 Tacoma having failures, look like TFL just had a brand new 24 break a front Diff and it wasn't even under stress. The Frontier is super solid
TRD Pro, with markups, will be 12-15K more expensive than the Pro 4X. There is no way the average buyer is able to justify that difference. If they can, then they are not the average buyer.
As an old school toyota fan boy owner of a 87 turbo 4runner,85 4Runner,96 taco,02 taco im planning to buy the frontier cause it keep that feeling of old school simple and over built
My 22 frontier is paid off only 6k miles white pro 4 X I might trade in for new Tacoma Pro in the spring both trucks are great but I think new Tacoma pro will be even better can’t wait
Is there really something you plan on doing, that the toyota will do, that the nissan cant?? You'll take a beating on a trade of the nissan, the toyota will have a "market adjustment" on it. Your money, just wondering....why???😂😂 nissan paid for..it's a nice truck
Love my 24 pro4x average 21_22 mpg handles fantastic alot more rear leg room than Toyota from all the reviews ive watched the engine is fantastic and power is more than adequate.. Doesn't sound like you keep any more than a couple of years and I also played a few grand of sticker I cannot and will not ever pay keep or over keep period..Gluck trying that with Toyota ..love the steering myself 😀 hope that helps
NISMO has the 1.5 lift kit for the Frontier P4X. if a person who is mechanically able to install this kit the kit is only 300.00, the upper control arms will make coil bucket contact if off roading but for streets it does not contact, NISMO has the performance upper control arms to for 600.00 which eliminate the coil bucket contact. So a 1.5 lift is a decent height for off roading mild areas, with this lift a 275 70 17 tire fits perfect.
Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Today you can get a hydraulic power steering V6 engine., and should be comparable, reliability, and quality to the Toyota. I think Toyota has gone backwards, taking the option of the V6 away from the buyer. And if you’re like me, you prefer the access cab., and Toyota cheaped out and eliminated the rear doors. I’m also not a fan of the turbo charge engine for a regular every day driver. And turbo chargers need to be cared for, little warm up, and a little cool down. Just ask the car care nut.
Excellent review but I doubt the Tacoma is a better purchase. I do not think that turbo 4 will outlast that very reliable VQ motor. Nissan makes the best truck motor hands down. Maybe not the most fuel efficient but 2 miles per gallon is nothing over a 5 year drive. Plus. Cost of ownership is not mentioned. That Tacoma will cost 10 k more on average.
I am in the same dilemma. I have owned a 95 SE-V6 Nissan hard body and currently drive a 2008 LE Frontier. The 95 frame rusted out and the 2008 frame is now rusted out too (New England weather). So need to buy another truck. Not sure if I should stick with Nissan and drive 3 consecutive generations or switch to the Tacoma for something different even though it will cost me more to buy Toyota vs. Nissan.
Wait for hybrid . Go with your ❤️. I'm waiting for hybrid sport. What's your prediction on 0 to 60 time. My geuss would be at least 5.9. Considering colordo does it just over 6 seconds. Lmk. Thanks David
I have a 2017 Tundra TRD Pro and was looking at the new Tacoma. I'll wait at least a year though to see what issues arise with the hybrid system in the TRD Pro. If you really want a Taco then I'd wait rather than get the frontier.
Toyota built a 4 cylinder turbo truck back in 1987. Now seems like they want to try again. I see you measuring all the gaps on the Frontier and I've heard that the gaps on the New Tacoma are even worse. Next thing I'd be concerned w/is how long do the turbos last before they need to be replaced. I'm sure that won't be cheap. Like yourself I've owned several Toyota Truck's. But w/everything I've seen and heard from price to quality. I'm seriously thinking about getting a New Pro4X.
Drive one Taco all day as my company's working vehicle. I'll be darn to have one home too. Besides I truly think the driving position of the Frontier is better than the 2023 and prior Tacos. Don't know about the new one. And another thing, very seldom do turbocharged gasoline engines outlast normally aspirated ones and if you go hybrid you have to know that batteries are going to be an expensive issue down the line. For me it's Frontier
Ill take the V6 Nissan over the 2024 4cyl turbo Tacoma. That Nissan will last longer with that V6 engine. The 2023 V6 Tacoma will outlast the 4 cylinder turbo Tacomas as well. Naturally aspirated engines generally live longer than forced induction engines. Plus the turbos have moving parts that get very hot as well and are prone to wear out.
Just buy the Nissan Frontier now and later on buy the New Tacoma when it comes out. Drive both of them and see which one last longer over the years. Who said you can only own one truck. Buy both of them. FYI I'm from Nevada own and drive 4 vehicles. 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV in Black, 2021 Lexus GX 460 in Nightfall Mica Blue, 2022 Toyota RAV4 XLE Hybrid in Silver, 2023 Toyota RAV4 SE Hybrid in Cavalry Blue. The Escalade ESV made in USA. The Lexus GX 460 and both RAV4 Hybrids assembled in Japan. I'm thinking of getting a new 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro 4x.😇
I've daily driven a 23 Pro4x since late 22 and its been great overall. Steering is definitely the heaviest I've ever used, but driving electric power steering vehicles feels weird now that I'm used to it. I dont like the rust build-up underneath 6 months in and lack of rear passenger space. I wouldn't get the new taco due to the same rear space issue and the new engine. Yes, you get a lot more power/efficiency but it sounds awful. I'd be more interested in the Ranger Raptor. A little more rear passenger space and a much more powerful twin turbo v6.
Thanks and awesome deputy. I thought I was a great driver at that age. Now I drive on the speed limit 30 yrs later. There is NOTHING worth rushing for and not see my grandchildren.
The author has already made up his mind, it will be a Taco. Nissans since the day of the original hard body have been known for reliability probably equal to the Taco. Nissans may not have the most of everything but trucks are like the old Timex, they take a licking and keep on ticking.
I traded my 2022 Tacoma trd pro in for a 2022 Nissan frontier pro4x. I’ll never look back. The perfect truck
Ain’t you looking back now
Why would be be lol

Great choice brother, congrats 💯 agreed
I would try the Frontier out! You might just be happy you got the chance to own one of the last v6 small trucks around!
You've said in other videos that you are a Toyota truck fan, so stick with what you prefer. This video is really about the decision you've already made about your Toyota preference.
My pro4X is amazing off road in stock configuration. Waiting to buy out my lease before lifting. 20.4 MPG & rides like a caddy off road
I’m both but overall I’m more impressed with the Frontier and would love to have one long term
You are referring to the V6. The new turbos have no data so it's a fresh start. Better off with a mfg that has experience with turbo trucks like Ford
And with the Frontier King Cab, you'll get convenient small rear doors to open up the storage area in back.
The new Tacoma has no extra-cab doors.
@@marklihsu except Ford sells crap. Their turbos are notorious for needing to be replaced.
I too prefer trucks that have frames that rust in half.
It sounds to me your more a loyalist Toyota individual than any other manufacturer even if it’s cost effective, reliable, or well built.
And a N/A V6 while the taco went turbo 4.
💯💪 agreed
Tacoma is fully boxed now. STILL BOUGHT THE P4X BABY!
Money would have to be no object for me to get the new TRD Pro. Value definitely goes to the Nissan Pro 4X. Been a fan of both for a long time.
Frontier, last of the V6 and after owning it you can give us a long term comparison to your previous Tacoma’s
New Ranger has two different v6s to choose from
@andrzejczuk2573A much smaller turbo 6s and you still can't get the 2.7 turbo on the ranger while the other is only available on the raptor.
Didn't realize you were a British Columbian man! Even more reason to support the channel.
Get the Nissan PRO-4X! The Trailhunter looks awesome but will be 15-20 k more! I have a 2022 and for the price and value you will appreciate it. Drives great and gives you what you need and more for much less. Get a trailhunter in 2 years once the markups go away!
Spend that 15k on the frontier and get something serious
Great trucks
Excellent breakdown!
Had a 2003 tundra for 20 years which was unbelievable. Decided to get a tacoma until i test drove the frontier and for me it was a no brainer .I choose the frontier and so far loving it and it looks great blacked out
Great choice
Recently purchased a 2023 Armada. So far, my only disappointment is, the driveline has surface rust (on steel parts and the black iron parts). Seems to be a common issue on Nissan's. I have looked on the lot at other brand new Armada's...same issue as mine that i've owned for 6 months. But value for the vehicle is great and it's a V8.
My wife has the same and so far we love it. Big and comfortable. Love the v8.
That's common for every vehicle
Go with the V-6! 💪
Great review…when I was considering a truck I wasn’t even looking at the Frontier. But based on cost, ruggedness, and reliability surprisingly I would have to give the Frontier a test drive.
Nisson all the way David-V6 vs 4 cylinder turbo with a battery and about 15K cheaper then the Tacoma TRD pro
💪
You aren't fooling anyone, looking forward to the tacoma review...
I'd wait for the Tacoma based on all the positives you mentioned unless you need a mid-size truck today.
I had two 3rd gen Tacomas and seriously thought about getting a Fronteir for my next truck. The fit and finish was much better on the Nissan, and the price wasn't as inflated. I also really like the steering weight.
I want to know about David's fishing trips!
Yes I love fishing! Almost as much as I love cars!
Have a fishing channel??
Wait for the Taco. Good review
Had tacos for years but love the Frontier headlights
Nissan will last longer than the Tacoma.
Great comment !!
ill take the nissan all day. The main reason is price, i could buy a frontier and buy another for my friend and still be cheaper than a 2024 tacoma.
Exactly what I told myself the other day. Nissan handing out reliable trucks people still want to question at half the price of those new Tacomas 😳
Get the Frontier
Take your GX for fishing trips and wait for the Taco, would be my 'advice' David. Wecuse our GX as an adventure vehicle, and it is awesome.
Don't wait!
How nice to have the luxury of changing trucks at one's whim and not worry about eating depreciation time after time!
David,
I like the idea of waiting for the Toyota!
My 2¢ opinion...
-Shane
If you don't NEED it, I would wait. If you have the money, don't need to finance, willing to take the hit at trade in and just want something now, get the NISSAN.
I really like the TRD PRO but I don't think I would use that gimmicky seat. I also like the Trailhunter but I don't like the wheels, the top rack or the headache rack. I think the TRD Offroad would suite me better. But, that's just me.
Good luck, whatever you do.
Go for the Frontier Pro4X. Keep it a year then go for the Trail Hunter. The Pro4X should have an acceptable value retention.
Buy the Frontier, because that 2.4L had so many parts to go wrong and it will struggle with heat
What you mean is PERCEIVED reliability based on marketing . Nissan has never built an unreliable small truck in 60 years.
Three days ago i bought Frontier Pro X and i so happy with my decision.
As an old school toyota fan boy owner of a 87 turbo 4runner,85 4Runner,96 taco,02 taco im planning to buy the frontier cause it keep that feeling of old school simple and over built
Titan or Pro4X for me. Extra cash on my pocket too‼️
My 22 frontier is paid off only 6k miles white pro 4 X I might trade in for new Tacoma Pro in the spring both trucks are great but I think new Tacoma pro will be even better can’t wait
Nissan hasn’t done enough to steal the market share.
Yes more power
Yes more torque
Yes more beefier sub frame
Get the P4X and live with it real world for awhile. Pleased with mine!
I'm waiting for trailhunter.
I have a 2017 Tundra TRD Pro and was looking at the new Tacoma. I'll wait at least a year though to see what issues arise with the hybrid system in the TRD Pro. If you really want a Taco then I'd wait rather than get the frontier.
I’ll settle for the one that stays out of the service dept.
Id say go for the Frontier.
It’s the last V6 body on frame pickup you will buy.
You can always trade it for a Taco later.
For me it's Frontier
this man trades his truck like trading baseball cards or pokemon cards. 😂😂😂
🤣🤣
If you decide on the 2024 Tacoma, hopefully it doesn't break in the 1st 2.000 miles like Roman's did.
How about full tank capacity comparison?
Frontier!
I believe you should buy the Nissan Frontier. Because you haven't ever owned one, and then you can evaluate the trail hunter when it comes out.
I LOVE MY 3rd gen FRONTIER!
Whay if price and avalibility was not an issue, which truck would you chose without hesitation ?
Thanks and awesome deputy. I thought I was a great driver at that age. Now I drive on the speed limit 30 yrs later. There is NOTHING worth rushing for and not see my grandchildren.
To me it sounds like you really want the trail Hunter so I would hold out and get the one you want
Do a video on pathfinder
The author has already made up his mind, it will be a Taco. Nissans since the day of the original hard body have been known for reliability probably equal to the Taco. Nissans may not have the most of everything but trucks are like the old Timex, they take a licking and keep on ticking.
