The reason bitwig seemed so unimpressive to him was because he used Bitwig as Ableton instead of using Bitwig as Bitwig
Solid point. The modulation is where its at in bitwig. Limitless possibilities created in seconds.
Exactly this. You can use Bitwig as Ableton, but you can't use Ableton as Bitwig!
boi didn't even grid once
So agree.
@@SR1Records Sadly you can't use Bitwig as Ableton. For my workflow the inability to solo / mute multiple selected tracks via keyboard shortcuts prevents to be a full replacement. The workflow with the inspector for those basic tasks is just not practically and every other DAW solved this better. The irony is that this wouldn't even take a day to fix. And as much i like the Bitwig features, i won't switch until those and some other basic workflow issues are fixed. I know Bitwigs approach is different but in order to get a bigger audience some workflow options are needed instead of hyper focussing on endless modulation possibilities.
I’ve been trying to push bitwig out there for a Couple years now. People don’t recognize gold even if it slaps them in the face
Hey Alck! :)
@@nebroskitheraut6705 heblo
good to see ya here
You certainly brought me over from reason well enough!
Bishu is a perfect example of this...but he did use it as a sample player. He should just use Acid Pro if this is his workflow.
Bitwig was developed by Ex-Ableton developers. That's one reason why it has some similiarities. I prefer the workflow of BW to Ableton.
yep they felt like they where hindered by the ways ableton was becoming rather stagnant and set in it's way. bitwig is kind of like the more 'experimental' version of Ableton with some 'hindsight' workflow changes that can only be made when redeveloping software from the ground up.
Same
I wonder if one of the reasons they left ableton was having the playlist on the right lol They sure fixed that in Bitwig. That was one of my biggest gripes when I tried out ableton.
The number one killer feature in Bitwig is perfect delay compensation. Ableton can't compensate plugins delay correctly
Can you describe delay compensation to me pls? I did a quick google search but still don't fully understand
@@Elesiane Most plugins take at least a fraction of a millisecond to process audio. If this delay isn't compensated for, it can cause things to lose sync with one another. Delay compensation is when your DAW keeps track of how long each plugin takes and adjusts the timing of tracks so that everything stays in sync.
@@tonogram Ah gotcha, I see. Thank you very much!
Most daw messes up with pdc, logic, ableton, fl. I have never had pdc issues in bitwig
@@Trickey2413 There is exactly one PDC issue that I'm aware of in Bitwig, and it's that the stock EQ+ device adds a few samples of latency that aren't compensated for. Otherwise though, pretty much perfect.
I would say the only disappointing thing was that Bishu didn't touch the modulation features which nothing else has at all.
Well the killer feature for me is that BitWig has native support for Linux.
So hackers can make music too
@@omfgihopethisworks gotta spice up a career in IT somehow
After using Bitwig Studio for some productions and several week, I tried to coming back to Ableton. And well I cannot .. so I conclude that Bitwig is better for me
Recently switched to Bitwig, once you get used to it the workflow is so much nicer, smoother and you have a lot of features that ableton didnt straight up copy yet :D If youre looking for a DAW that can basically do anything out of the box and is only limited by your skill, not itself, your plugins or your samples, its definitely worth its price.
Huh. Actually Bitwig copied lots of stuff from ableton. It's a low budget version of it, because some developers of Ableton left and went for Bitwig.
@@jujasname Thing is, as Bitwig came out in 2014 and, as you correctly pointed out, was started out by ableton developers, of course its going to share a lot of commonality regarding basic DAW functionality and layout. But I wouldnt necessarily call it a low budget version because of that.
For one, DAWs copy each other permanently, its been going on between FL and Ableton for a long time already, so when Bitwig brought ALOT of Quality of Life improvements they all got copied (because why not, right?), on the other hand the modulator system and Poly Grid of Bitwig make Ableton look like a dinosaur abacus, not to mention its superior sampler, better MIDI interface, and so many more QoL features I couldnt even list them.
I have been working with ableton for 5 years, and Im not going back.
I highly recommend anyone giving it a shot, you get a 30-day trial for free.
@@doppelt8255 Well, honestly, Ableton is without question the greatest daw ever.
@@jujasname That title goes to Famitracker.
@@TallicaMan1986 😂😂😂
I got Bitwig 8-track free when I bought my midi and feels so nice for someone who just started making music. I feel like the DAW just gets bigger as I understand it more, it has a nice learning curve to it
Bitwig is a mix between Live, cubase, and reason basically. It doesn't have the crippling issues live has. The workflow is lighting fast. Sandboxing prevents plugins from taking down the project which is a blessing for live performances. Thavius beck, one of the top live instructors in the world as well as one of the top Bitwig instructors told me Live does 75% of what Bitwig can do and Bitwig can do 99% of what Live can't do. It's also really good for live performances. Some say it's better than Live for live performances, but I doubt that. Live was designed for live performances, it's in their DNA.
The 1% Bitwig can’t do is livelooping...that’s sets the tempo🌀, if it had that, it would be perfect imo
@@kittycloudz813 you mean the clip launcher? Isn't that the same as the session view in Live (only difference being you can see both the clip launcher and arranger both at the same time)
Ableton has a looper device that detects and sets the tempo on first loop..its awesome, Bitwig doesn’t have anything like this......yet 🤞
Ableton still has much better stretching algo's than bitwig in some but not all cases.
@@KL-tn1xc in the first versions , your correct..but now it has same..complex pro, hd pro..etc, unless your talking about clip automation then yes Ableton is a bit more advanced currently
switched from Ableton to Bitwig around 2015 and honestly can't go back very easily. The workflow and plugin compensation is just so good! and having multiple projects open at once is really useful.
Ditched FL and ableton for bitwig, glad he is checking it out. its seriously underrated
You missed out on the entire global modulator section which is 90% of what make Bitwig so cool.
Bitwig Studio is always updating, it is evolving more and more, let's hope the developers and programmers update to new versions, more native plugins, change skins, interface colors, themes, and functions. convert the Audio clip to MIDI, bring functions that Ableton live has into Bitwig Studio, little by little it will evolve.
I like to use bitwig as a modular synthesizer. Which you cannot do in Ableton.
But dawg any DAW can be a loop arranger.
Exactly. I died when he closed the inspector panel. I've seen like 4 people do this. It hurts my soul.
Yeah boi pass the peanut butter cuz Bitwig is my jam. I've been waiting for this, it's like observing a non-indigenous creature being introduced to a new habitat. For those who don't know what Bitwig is about, it basically comes down to, "If you can imagine it, you can build it". I've built a dynamic EQ with native EQ using the automation parameters available, I've recreated IM Pusher, I've re-imagined Serum and built it the way I'd prefer inside the Grid. The possibilities are really endless with this thing. Check out some of the crazy stuff Polarity built inside Bitwig, and his presets come included with Bitwig.
my guy is shakespeare
F*ck yeahhhhh
Wow Paradoxic, you are a beast!! can you share your "Serum in the grid" ? I'm curious...
@@neoecclesia I can share it but not going to post a link on some random YT comment section.
If you havent messed with "the grid" you havent messed with Bitwig. go back and try the grid out
I bought bitwig because ableton started crashing on me a lot. I found bitwig was also mac silicon native and it has great crash protection. I like the dual screen layout. You can make the tracks small and you can see a bunch on one screen. I recently tried Ableton again, after 11.1 was released. I can’t go back to it. Another argument for bitwig is that it was built on much newer code and will be future proofed as the old daws age. Anyway it’s worth trying, I think any ableton user will like it.
i thought bitwig was like ableton until i realized you can use modulators on literally anything. its sick
Bitwig is where the kings produce
What up king
Love this guys energy, but I think this was a lesson in how to not use the strengths of Bitwig. No BW devices or modulation, the entire DAW is a synth. This was a lesson in VST's and Splice. Anyway, new here... wonder how he progressed?!
Might as well use Acid Pro with how he uses the DAW lol
You closed the left panel. This is essential if you want to change the algorithm of audio warping and such things.
This looks like an amalgamation of a bunch of DAWs
It kind of is. It takes the best bits of Ableton, Cubase, FL Studio. It is the best DAW on the market IMO, and I've used them all
The best of the best. It really is. The feature set is incredible but takes a real deep dive to comprehend.
Bitwig looks like if Ableton Live had a baby with Reaper
Bitwig has the smoothest workforce
I left reasons and FL this is 90 times easier to use
Fun fact ableton producer hasn’t a lot to do in his daw, so he using new one for same boring things.xd
Try modulators, poly grid and sound work, nothing can beat bitwig at the moment
2:50 Its just like ableton. Theres a small button below the master track. Looks like two arrows on top of each other. (->/
Bitwig is the most intuitive DAW I've used so far, it's so easy to navigate and the workflow is so speedy.
8:00 Click on the clip, open the inspector panel (the "i" at the bottom left corner), and you can change the algorithm to Elastique Pro, which sounds the best, and you can even turn up the resolution if you want the absolute cleanest audio. Also, you can change the default stretch modes in the Behavior settings for whenever you drag and drop short/long samples.
Can’t wait Biteig add retrospective record , midi comping and ara2 . After that ableton is DONE. However I really love using ableton push 2
It's like how i wanted combination of fl studio and abelton.
He didn't even enter................................the grid (cries in braille).
he missed all the note fx and modulation and most importantly the grid
Quality content as usual
Looks interesting, I'm intrigued to try it now :)
I wouldn't really call Bitwig "a wanna be Ableton"... It's going to be similar because it was developed by some of the devs from Ableton. I'm still very new to Bitwig but so far it seems to be way more powerful than Live!
Live has more power in some ways...especially with cycling under the hood...but you can definitly be a lot more creative and have more possibilities with how you use the tools in Bitwig as they can all interact with and nest inside of each other.
He did the lick when he was saying sheesh in autotune.
Yes broooooo!! Such an underrated DAW
Saw bitwig and bishu and clicked the vid so fast.
editing was very crisp this vid
ngl Bitwig lookin like Reaper
my fav canadian
Haha love the energy #thehappyproducer Really need to open my bitwig demo!
I use Bitwig everyday to produce, very cool DAW
I keep telling everybody that this program creates the best baby making music on the planet and you proved the point. When will people listen to me.
Just got back into music. Used Logic exclusively. No more. Bitwig is crazy intuitive
That bass sounds a lot like the "Moto moto" one from madagascar
Bitwig is a game changer
It doesn't zap all your creativity making you spend it all trying to use 2 and 3 step features
your attitude is the shit man!!! hell yea
[nodding in understanding]
Nice to meet you, Mr. Oldgauve
i can't believe you switched to bitwig indefinitely! the streams have been lit lately
So he uninstalled Mario paint? I thought I heard a difference...
insnae
Wait fr? He ditched Ableton?
Why does this song take me back to 2007?
Its like if protools and ableton had a baby
is your fan on like the 3 setting? why is your hair blowing around in a tornado
Bet you can't figure out Reaper works. It's solely for big-brain individuals such as myself /j.
I'm using reaper for a class! it doesn't feel intuitive at all lmao
@@leos0426 Because it's not
@@TronciM lol
Haha
Btw what does the /j mean
Cakewalk next? Free daw with unlimited tracks 😳
how his hair reacted to the vocals.. at 6:09
My favorite difference is that Ctrl Shift M to create a midi clip in ableton is minimize window in bitwig so I always accidentally minimize my window.
Also I like how you immediately removed the really useful info panel on the left that lets you change track inputs for recording
Anyone else have this hotkey not work in Ableton?
The good part of bitwig however is that you can change every single shortcut, and almost every button in the DAW has the option to have a key assigned to it
edit: also you can import FL studio and Ableton projects into bitwig, incase you use one for different reasons
@@TorontoPopulistConservative Iirc you need to select a time selection on a midi track and then hit Ctrl shift m and it'll make the clip where you have the track selected
@@Lukie-Boy I do select a couple blank bars on a MIDI track and it never works.
The most important feature is the modulation
How is he recording vocals without headphones in?
the DRIP though, also how do canadians work? i'm polish and i HATE the cold but i'd love to visit canada
7:30 the panel on the left that your closed in the beginning will have all you warp options. Double click the audio clip and the inspector will reappear.
I'll give Bitwig credit where it's due, they thought of us linux users...
🤝
Bitwig is modular and modulation heaven. Don't use like "previous era" Ableton.
there is nothing even close to BW.
anyone not on BW is wasting time imo
best luck bois
Finally got an editor?? Pog
Does anyone here know what's up with the sub goal? Did the Monestercat project get canceled or is it still going or....?
Hit the I in the lower left for a ton more options.
This only thing I miss from Ableton is Drum Buss and some of the repeaters and randomizers. Any equivalents to those for Bitwig?
No replacement for drum buss. You'd have to build it yourself. What do you mean by repeaters?
@@DaKingof beat repeat stuff
@@danielfeatherstone674 lot's of people making them in the grid. I'm sure there are some on Bitwiggers and I think Andre made a video of a few he made.
me: *blushing* how'd you know you're my favorite boi
switched to bitwig from logicpro, cubase and fl studio(yes i use combination of all 3) to only bitwig man oh man is it better
u should do a video where you try to produce in bandlab
Let’s try Bitwig he said… uses all vst plug-in he does….
Is a good DAW except the stock plugins are too basic for me.
Can you try BandLab next? Its an online daw
The reason I’d use it is because ablteton isn’t compatible with Linux
What about trying out Cakewalk?
You should try the version 5 now, there is so many new things
you mean nothing really new ?)
Truth is no matter what DAW Bishu uses, the end result is a masterpiece. Just wish I didn't get hit with a turbotax ad prior to watching
It will be when you use it as a loop arranger and vst host. He didn't touch any of the features Bitwig has unique to it whatsoever.
Its not for hipsters its for those who want more modulation and the scene system is alot more intuitive as abeltons version. You can layer loops underneath each other in one row while you can't do it in Ableton. Once I start producing again, I'll switch to Bitwig
You should try Reaper
being late to the party. Bitwig is miles ahead of Ableton and it is such a shame ppl have such preconceived thoughts about it before they even try it (not talking about Bishu) It is different for sure and it takes like anything a bit of a learning curve especially after using Ableton for years. I feel sometimes the "DAW wars" is stupid , something like the OS wars (Windows is better than Mac Linux etc), It is a tool like any other If you know how to use it you will get great results as long as you're willing to put a bit of time into learning it. The whole concept, the sandboxing, the use of your computer resources etc is amazing. The modulators for sure are its main strength , you don't have to use them but they are so cool. The level of customization of the sound goes beyond any expectations one may have. Does it have bugs? ...duh lol Is it the perfect DAW?...not likely but again it is a matter of preference and more importantly habit. It is still missing a proper slicing mode in the sampler(out of the top of my head) among other things but it is still heavy developed and prolly will get it at one point. Bishu's videos are a mix of fun and education lolz Watching him struggling to sidechain or automate was priceless 🤣 I'd say to force yourself to use it for a week or 2 exclusively and you will dump Ableton 100% guaranteed 🤣.Thank you
14:07 Snoop Dogg fo real lol
6:06 Looked likd his hair was floating cause he clipped lol
I tried to switch back to Ableton from bitwig, just like the Ableton piano roll and the native synths. Then I realized everything I was used to doing with modulators had a m4l device( steps, parseq8, adsr, etc). Then Ableton crashed a few times when using them, so…. Went back to bitwig and couldn’t remember the last time it crashed on me and how awesome the modulators are. Even bought that Oscillot for cats/ poly grid in Ableton. Then I really felt like a dumbass. Bitwig 4 is like Ableton 20 since it’ll take that many versions for Ableton to catch up. Oh yeah, Abletons browser is ass.
Yup. Ableton is lit but after using bitwig it's really hard to go back. Bitwig is just a very modern DAW. Performance and usability wise
Beat type bishu
You should definitely try Auxy on iOS. It gives you premade synths that you can distort the shit out of. Would definitely make a great stream and video!
I particularly liked the UNISON ad at 2:38 🔥🥳
This goes to show that any person with a computer and some software can call themselves a producer. Oh my.
won't Ableton just catch up next update? lol
The most slept on DAW would be Tracktion Waveform. Insanely good workflow once you get used to it.
actual fact!!
I appreciate Traktion for making another nice DAW available on Linux. I ended up going with Bitwig because I was looking for something more like Ableton, but I could definitely see Logic users preferring Waveform.
Man i wish i had Bitwig pianoroll in ableton.
Many Bitwig users actually wish they had the Ableton piano roll in Bitwig 😅
And i wish Ableton had FL's piano roll
@@mudi2000a Maybe a year ago, but today bitwig's piano roll is completely unparalleled, they really pushed the boundaries of midi with their 4.0 update
Hope this demo track to see a light
you should try beepbox/jummbox
Do Cakewalk daw.
So this what daw jpegmafia uses
Actually pretty sick though
Hey, I noticed your mic gain isn't dialed in as you are peaking... I would love to make you a vocal chain. Let me know if your interested. I wouldn't charge you.
kinda looks like a reaper theme
Try REAPER
