  • Here we replace the euro cylinder in a French door, this is more difficult than changing a regular euro cylinder as you have to remove the keep plate from one side of the door and drill an access hole through the pvc profile. Brought to you by www.ultimatehan...

      Ultimate Handyman hi there was an attempt to break into my French doors. It's iseo lock cyLinder. The handle casing was damaged but the lock is flush and doesn't protrude. I'm undecided to change the cylinder or buy a patlock or similar what would your advice be please?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  7 лет назад

      If you never open your patio doors from the outside I would get one of the patlocks as they look like a good visual deterrent.

    Great timing for this, the lock mechanism on my upvc front door broke this evening. Replacing it tomorrow with a Yale Doormaster Adjustable. Btw noticed the cylinders you used weren't anti-snap like the ABS ones you have showed before.

    Thanks for this. Your other video on changing a euro lock was great too, but the hidden screw problem is now solved! I have 5 different locks and keys, and will be changing to keyed-alike locks, just one key for all doors.
    Where do you normally buy your euro cylinders?

    i have bought new house which was repossessed where the door with pvc profile was locked and i didnt get key for it.i snapped lock and tried to drill pvc piller drilled pvc and two aluminium layers but couldnt see screwhead. i can actually see screw from snapped lock and have been drilling in same direction. also afraid of drilling screw head .
    house was build in 2006.and door didnt have full metal plate it have 3 different small plates .i took out middle and started drilling.should i give up and get locksmith

      Sometimes you have to remove the PVC profile from the edge of the door. If you have drilled a hole but cannot see the retaining screw there is a chance that the screw is on the glazing side of the door, which means you would have to remove the glass from the door to get to the screw!

    How do you remove the barrel if you don’t have a key? I can open one side but I don’t have the key for the other?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 лет назад

      Providing the cylinder is not anti-snap you can snap it from the inside of the property, then use a Allen key to unlock the cam- which will then enable you to replace the cylinder (providing you can get to the retaining screw, like in this video).
      This videos shows how to snap a cylinder from inside - ruclips.net/video/2lzX5sSTbig/видео.html
      It won't work if the cylinder is anti-snap both internally and externally though.

      I'm not a locksmith but I think a new gearbox will fix it. As long as you can get the door open you can change it yourself. It's when the door is locked and the gearbox fails that I don't know how to fix! Sometimes if you just remove the whole multipoint lock you can replace a par of it that has failed- or you might just need a new multi-point lock. I think I paid about £60 for it if I remember rightly.

  • @fabiandee8178

    Normally very straightforward lmao...in my case the hole in the upvc and the metal bracket inside the door wasn't cut wide enough so it require a hammer and wd40 to get the cylinder out and to get it back in i had to grind down the upvc and bracket holes so the cylinder would actually go back in. Then the recessed retaining screw on the other door wouldn't come out (thread might be stripped) - the installer had drilled a hole in the upvc door frame to get the screw in and I'll have to be careful it doesn't fall into the gap in the upvc door. - so I guess I'll have to take the upvc plate off. Yours looks a lot better with the correct length cylinder. One of your handles has seen better days heh

    I have exactly the same doors that seemed to have no way of changing the lock on the slave side. I just found this video after watching today's video about changing a Euro cylinder without a key.Thanks for both.
    But why on earth is there no hole in the slave door for people to access the screw?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  10 лет назад

      I think it's the way they are manufactured. They make two doors and install the euro cylinders before fitting the full length "keep" to one of the doors. Ideally they would make the additional "keep" with an access hole but it seems they don't bother.
