I've used Synchro-Vox in that exact same fashion; In every review of the scene people say the live-action mouth looks really creepy. ruclips.net/video/NsvR-tNs954/видео.html
I always felt Syncro-Vox only works when used ironically, like for humor or creepy factor to give something a surreal or off-putting edge. To name another example that wasn't mentioned, one SpongeBob RUclips Poop by NPCarlsson used Resetti in place of The Flying Dutchman, only he had a Syncro-Vox mouth to match up with his sentence mixing. It adds to the absurdity of the rest of the YTP because of how jarring and yet hilarious the effect is.
4:40 Exactly my thoughts when I saw this. Just having the characters robotically flap their mouths open and closed or even complete stills would look far better and less eerie than that technique.
I remember when the Goosebumps "Haunted Mask" TV specials used Syncro-Vox for the plaster head bust of Carly-Beth speaking, and that was already live-action! "Help me. Please, help me."
Technically you can argue that syncrovox is alive and well in the short videos genre. With filters that place your facial features only over any given photo being used to make anything talk.
This technic was also used in dirtgirl world and the survival horror game, Siren. This technique would probably only be good for a horror genre, cause of how off putting and ugly I looked
I think the funniest thing is that Synchro-vox is somewhat kept alive albeit unconventionally by people who do memes and shitposts. You've probably already seen those memes where its still images but the creators like place their eyes and mouths on some object or creature to "act" as them.
I remember a gun PSA I watched in 1st grade (I think it was same the eagle or something) where the entire thing was fully animated, but there was a police officer character (who was replaced by a live action scene later) who was a still image drawn in americana style with a synchro vox mouth. Weird memory but this reminded me of it.
Actually, the Annoying Orange TV show bombed after *two* seasons! And even then, the show didn't bomb. The ratings were surprisingly solid. The two-part series finale even got 3.56 million viewers. It's just that DaneBoe's studio was shut down due to Collective Digital Media, which ended up getting acquired by ProSiebenSat.1 Media, shutting down its film and television division. Cartoon Network probably didn't want to fund the show anymore so it got cancelled. 🤓
Honestly syncro-vox dying with annoying orange makes sense a bit. It matches the most with the live action or CGI (with the eyes as well) and was the most sincere use since the first studio.
It’s weird hearing Annoying Orange being considered an example of “Early RUclips” considering I watched the creator of Annoying Orange’s content for a few years before the first AO video was even uploaded.
I wanna do the opposite of Syncro Vox where is a real human speaking with a cartoony ass mouth. Yes, i've seen it in superman on Justice League but it deserves better.
@@Steamer96 "Tweening" Or rigged animation is how All Modern 3D CGI animation is done (Unless you want to manipulate individual points like in Crash 1) Even the recent trend of stylized 3D animation still uses "tweening" for certain elements. (Though most of it is using step tangents.) As for 2D Rigged animation, I've seen it done well, most of which were ones that had the budget and time to make it look good. Turns out cheap animation looks cheap regardless of the medium.
I feel like Syncro-Vox would be perfect to use in a scary cartoon. Even Courage the Cowardly Dog used it in the Magic Tree of Nowhere.
Yeah I remember that episode. Basically It all depends on the style of genres you're going for.
It was also used in a horror game called Siren
David Lynch also used it in his Netflix short film What Did Jack Do?

Also in The House of Discontent for the Spirit of the Harvest Moon.
Imagine a feature film using Syncro Vox.
I'd rather not thanks.
Great for horror movie character that was still.
only moves when the main character looks away
I mean it would make for a good horror film
Thumb Wars?

I think the whole show is brilliant. I love seeing what creative people can figure out when their backs are up against the wall like this.

Like in most anime.
@@poptartorange5621 or the model series Thomas the tank engine and Friends.

And now Syncro-Vox has been used in one episode of the Animaniacs reboot Season 2.
what episode? WHAT EPISODE? i need to know.
@@FelixTheNoodle It's called "Yakko's big idea" which is episode six.
there's also the french canadian tv show têtes a claques (knuckleheads in english) who famously used the technique.
And not confused with the RUclips channel named Têtes a Claques.
3:07 RUclips wasn’t even around in the Early 2000’s, AO started in 2009.
"Johnny Quest, I don't think that was weed we were smoking."
Basically markiplier's animal vids
the videogame Let It Die uses synchrovox in it's boss cutscenes
Forgot to mention O Studios' Thumb movies, or "Tonguey" from Kung Pow!
I love those movies

2:00 was there no way to make the mouth bigger? or atleast make the chin smaller. I feel like im looking at the crimson chin's grandpa
There was

Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers terrified when I was a little kid, specifically that scene with Daffy

I grew up watching clutch cargo so even though it looks terrible, there's a weird nostalgia and love I have for it.
It was also used in the Family Guy episode, Seahorse Seashell Party for the "return the map" scene.
No mention of President Clinton and Arnold on Late Night with Conan O’Brien?
Great job with the 500 subs!
Used in an infamously dirty political ad here in Missouri back in the 80s.
Chuck Swersky is a freakin' nerd.
There, I made the reference.
Did you know clutch cargo was also showned on higgins boys and gruber, on the comedy channel (comedy central)

Space Angel will be around long after this channel is forgotten.
Not "dated", cool and unique.
You forgot about the fake celebrity interviews on Late Night with Conan O'brien.

Synchro Vox was a bad idea even at the time. You could just have two frames for opened and closed mouths and save a ton of money.
Another forgotten technique is Silhouette Animation.
The forgotten mastery of Lotte Reigner.
I only really view Syncro-Vox as something you would use in a Ren And Stimpy Close up shot, rather than using it as a cheap way to save time
Ya, too add to the weirdness.
Mr. Incredible and Pals??? I need to see this!
You forgot about another reason to use syncro-vox - Having a fetish for Syncro-Vox for some reason.
...Yeah.
thanks
Isn't Deepfake a new form of Syncro-Vox?
The Incredibles short was great
This was used in weird als bedrock anthem
Can you review Voltron Force?

Clutch Cargo was 60ish years ago. Of course it is dated...
That's weird
So the annoying orange is fine art?
What about wired al bedrock anthem syncrovox.
I have a better idea, open mouth then closed mouth
I still hate tweening more than this.
Do you hate 3D animation?
@@Shoop400 What kind of 3D, Stop Motion or CGI? But in all seriousness no not really, I do however think 3D is being overused.
