The music in this video. 😂❤🤖👽👾
All I feed is Scratch & Peck feed. My flock absolutely loves it. They also get fruits and vegetables in their diet, along with black soldier fly larvae. It's not cheap, but my chickens are super healthy. I'm on a 287 acre farm down here in South Alabama. I don't free range, because of the coyotes, foxes, bobcats, red-tailed hawks and owls. I have a 60' x 60' man-made pen, with chain link top. Half of the top is covered with tin for the rainy days. I have hardware cloth 12 inches in the ground all the way around the borders of the pen, for the predators that like to dig. My coop inside the pen can hold 40 or more chickens easily, but I only have 22 chickens. They have plenty of room. I have roosting bars throughout the pen, as well as three 8' roosting bars in the coop. I have two 6' feed troughs, two 5 gallon waterers, and 4 dust bathing areas that I keep herbs and ash in. I also ferment the Scratch and Peck from time to time. It makes it last longer, plus it's good for them.
Madam President, your eyeglasses are awesome!🤩
🤓
I am hooting this morning! My Leghorn, Roadrunner, took two months off and laid her first egg yesterday!! 🙌
The Cuckoo Marans, Big Girl, took a month and a half off and I only got one egg every few days from the Barred Rock, Blackie. All hens named by my grandchildren.
Praying Big Girl doesn’t go all broody on me again this spring. Last year, it was 6-week struggle to get her to eat and drink and she got so thin! So much for the “don’t worry, it’s only two weeks” crowd.
I love your videos and I appreciate the kindness you able to your viewers so much!! Keep up the good work!
I do a 6 grain, mix in corn, larvae 🐛 when they come to the inner coop, they do get house scraps as well, raising for 12 years, they are beautiful hens and a beautiful rooster “big bird”😊 they are pets and can just retire when they are ready ❤
Hi President! I have been watching ur Channel for a while and it’s helped me get through a lot of Chicken Drama I have experienced personally- I am lucky to live in a Farming Family where we have a number of Acres in the countryside where we let our Chickens free-range, often despite renovating an old brick Kipper-Smokehouse for them they much prefer to roost in the small forested area nearby even in Stormy weather 😂- we are vegetarian and keep Chickens not for meat or even eggs, purely as companions (not that we have a choice in the eggs department, they often find hiding their nests in the bushes and tall grass more attractive prospect than laying in their nest boxes haha) - our oldest hen was called Margaret (French Maran) who lived to 13, I believe thanks to snacking on nutritious Raspberries and Blackberries that are in abundance along the borders of the field 😂, she really had a connection to us and showed new younger hens the ropes as well as somehow maintaining her position as local heavyweight Champion keeping the obnoxious Roosters at bay lol- we even found we got an occasional chocolate coloured egg from her every couple months which was incredible at her age- thanks for continuing the regular uploads of informative content and have read ur book and watched ur TedTalk, both brilliant!
Over the last couple months we've been doing a mix of the Nutrena NatureWise Hearty Hen pellets and the Nutrena Hi Pro Scratch Grains - probably a good 2:1 or 3:1 ratio, so that the scratch grains go a little further. We've also been giving them mealworms as their grub treat, clover from the yard (we have to keep them in a spacious enclosure of some sort because we have a lot of birds of prey and we live in the rural side of a city; though we also have a chicken tractor for grazing every once in awhile), and arugula that self-seeded from last year! We always provide oyster shell and grit too. Of course they get kitchen scraps too, I always look it up to make sure it's safe for them to eat first. I have made them 'chicken' oatmeal a few times this winter to give them something warm - a little milk in it for added protein but mostly water, then herbs like oregano and rosemary, some frozen berries and a handful of mealworms. I use the berries to cool the oatmeal down to a good temp for them, it's perfect! I've also put in some frozen peas because they love those too. During warmer weather we definitely cut down on the protein a little bit, and they get more seasonal scraps/treats. I agree with you that balance seems to be the best policy with chickens. They're jungle fowl so of course they're biologically used to a forager diet, so having variety makes all the sense! Our little flock of 6 is the first flock that my partner and I have had as adults, but we both grew up with chickens - they'll all be a year old next month 🥺 We may not be able to afford organic/nice feed for them every time, but we always look out for sales! Thank you for letting us viewers know about the deal going on with Scratch & Peck feed, I may try out some of their smaller bags to see how it is! I really like that they have a fodder bundle, that's pretty cool.
Had to tell you that this morning watching your video brought a tear to my eye because I really have so much Love in my Heart for You. You are Wonderful! so glad I found your channel! Thank you ! ♥♥♥♥
Aww thank you so much. I’m glad you’re a part of Chickenlandia! ❤️🐔❤️!
I just fed my babies some very cooked and soft black eyed pea beans over their food and they went crazy over it. I fed them cooked rice the other day and they liked that too. So maybe next time they'll get rice and beans together! They always get the feed and scratch with lots of seeds in it but they love having some warm slop over it, beans, rice, fermented feed etc. this is their first winter but I think I'll do the same every winter. Also cabbage, acorn and butternut squash hold up better in winter and lettuce and summer squash, leafy greens and veggies with more liquid are better for spring and summer. They need toys too but an empty plastic bottle with little holes cut in it and filled with seeds etc. strung up for them to peck at is a fun toy, make sure the holes are just big enough for the stuff to fall out when they peck it. Also clean water and some space to run around and I think they are happy birds.
When it gets really cold, I put the fermented feed and the soaked scratch mix I make together in a large bowl but in small increments and replace it several times a day. I don’t have electricity to my pen.
I also use ACV to help the fermenting process. Just a little.
I have been using scratch in peck and yes, they lowered their prices because they did open a new mill. They are my favorite.
Mine too!
Personally, I like these glasses! Makes you look more....Presidential! 🤓🥰 That is wonderful that this company lowered their prices!! In today's economy that's unheard of! Thank you for another awesome video of you loving your chickens (and ducks, etc)!! ❤
Right? I was actually shocked by that but I'm so glad they did it. Makes me proud to work with them.
SPROUTS is a big bonus I give to my flock (chickens, ducks, geese) all winter. It also takes about 3-4 days to sprout and I don't need to worry about it freezing. They devour it in no time. I run a bottle a day for for days and repeat. Also kale, dried soldier fly, corn, sunflower seeds, herbs, extra veggies, and oats. Rooster booster in the water once a week also helps. Thanks for the heads up on the scratch & peck. I'll check it out.
Every week I clean out the fridge of anything that's still good but not necessarily that I want to eat because it's leaning towards not good (doesn't include avacados). The girls get it as a treat.
Chicken feed Kefir, brilliant!
It's our first winter with chickens. We have them on a feed from our local animal feed store. Every day this winter, we've been giving them treats when we go to collect eggs. So, they always get some black oil sunflower seeds. On the really cold days, we've been giving them some garlic bulbils. We also make homemade bread from freshly ground wheat berries. If we have extras of that or pieces that are a little crusty or old, we've been cutting that up and giving it to them. They also sometimes get some diced up fruit, too. Just, whatever we have on hand to give as a little treat every day. They seem to like it, cause we've gotten about 5 eggs a day from 12 chickens all winter long. The past 3 days, it increased to 7 eggs a day.
Lucky chickens!!
You are so ENCOURAGING!! When I feel Like I'm not succeeding w/my 8 Hen Girls, such as a massive red mite outbreak, I turn you on! Thank you for such positive information.
I love your outlook ❤
🤓❤️
Thank you for all the great information Madam President, have an amazing week
I love scratch and pick feed. And when I had three chickens or five chickens, I could afford it but now that I have 15 I can’t. But I may look into them and see what I can do since their prices have lowered a little bit. I might be able to at least buy it occasionally. The problem is I’m on the east side of the state and nobody locally carries it.
I order mine straight to the house 🐔😊
I ferment my chicken feed most of the time. I use the One bucket method. I feed 15 chickens and it works great. I only feed grower feed, never layer feed. I have oyster shell on the side. And they get the kitchen scraps. Yard scrap Egg shells, etc. in the middle of winter like right now when there’s a few inches of snow on the ground I also throw out some hay for them. And some straws for giggles.
How much fermented food do you give each day
Your 'electrocuted' chickens are so beautiful! ❤️
😂 haha yes! 👹🐔
❤❤❤love you girl! Got 8 bantams and they make me happy. Got yorkies and 2 outdoor cats...my farm😂
More bang for their bawk!! Lol
I should have said that LOL
Childhood memories of feeding the kitchen scraps to the chickens. They were pecky eaters, lol
I tried soaking grains and my chickens would not eat it. I agree with you about just having chickens and caring for them best you can is better than most. I got a bag of cracked corn and had it in my garage for only several months had used about half way and it was all molded and had little bugs . gross had to toss.
Hello! I have a quick question. I ferment my feed, Stratch and Peck Layer Mash, which I give them every morning along with fresh veggies. They also have unfermented feed in the coop, which it seems like I am still filling the feeder every couple days. I guess what my question is, is how much food should I be feeding them each day? Btw, love the new glasses!!!
Wow! You have lots of green grass, for this time of year! 🌿
(I've used Scratch 'n Peck for my adult birds since I started- thank you for the tip!)
It's all covered in snow right now and I'm soooo cranky LOL
@@WelcometoChickenlandia❤
I have 4 beautiful, fluffy butt buff Orpington girls. I started with 7. One tiny chick (why do I always feel like the runt of a litter is going to live?) died overnight 😢. One turned out to be a rooster, and I live in a neighborhood that doesn’t allow roosters (guess he talked too much), so he was rehomed, and a bad dog killed the other one. I’m getting 3 more chicks this spring. I have a breeder that I buy from and I’m so happy with him. I can’t go all chicken math (😂). You have helped me so much in my chicken journey! My hubs is terrified of my girls! They untie his shoes, and he mistakes chicken kisses for being pecked to death. I can’t laugh out loud when he’s helping me, because he does help. My question is, I have nobody to help me and I need to visit my daughter, who is 12 hours away. I have a Great Pyr who is great at protecting my girls. But I need ideas on how to leave them for 5-6 days. Any suggestions? I feed them in a 5 gallon feeder and a 5 gallon water bucket with the cups. I’m worried I really won’t have any fun because I’ll worry about them the entire time. Ideas? Thank you for sharing your chicken knowledge. Brightest Blessings ✨💫
My good neighbors made sure they were secure in their coop each night and made sure the solarized doors opened each morning. I have a barrel that holds four bags of feed and a barrel that holds their water with nipples close enough to the ground for them to reach
I think it’s important to change up the feed now and then. Two different companies are probably gonna have different ingredients and different nutritional values and different ratios of different ingredients in their foods. So yes, changing it up now and then is great thing to do.
I was feeding organic Scratch & Peck for my hens. I love the ingredients; however, since my hens (RIRs & BAs)were laying small eggs (30 - 45 gr) and only a few a week, financially, I couldn't justify the cost. I switched to organic Hen House Reserve by Kimbach? (sp) with garden greens and occasional melons They did increase eggs to 50 to 60 grams. However, I still only get between 2 - 4 eggs a day.
Living in a high temp summers with mild weather the rest of the year, feeding corn is a no-no. Thank you for sharing ways to save money on feed, will definately try it.
1:30 in…. Please please please a homemade recipe video
What kind of chicken were you holding in the beginning?
How long does fermented feed last, and how do you store amy feed you don't feed them?
Hi Mrs President I have a question about how much fermented food I should give 9 hens? also I wanted to share I spent almost 30 years in the B-Ham area I miss the PNW so much.
Your link to fermenting did not show up.
That's weird! Here it is: ruclips.net/video/7Ga-pzxbrt8/видео.html
I make several different organic yogurts for a living. Every week we do a sensory analysis on batches made in previous weeks . I take those quarts of yogurt home and use one quart per day and mix with locally produced organic soy free grains. Let's just say my hens think that I'm the cock of the walk and have never seen a richer looking better tasting egg.
I find that I actually save money by feeding my girls non-GMO organic layer pellets from nature's Best. I've tried cheaper feeds and due to the fillers that are in them the girls would eat twice as much so I didn't save any money. I find this brand be fairly affordable.🐔
It makes sense!!
@@WelcometoChickenlandiathis is what I feed my girls as well I want to start fermenting but I’m unsure how much to give them
@ start with 1/4 cup each and see how they do. They will likely need a little more but that’s a good place to start!
I just learned about fowl pox! I think the dry variety made its way through my small flock without me even really noticing, I saw black spots, treated with a mix of shea butter and Vaseline and some black seed oil and they went away.
Has anyone else seen it?
Years later I am still trying to get our village to allow backyard chickens, once again we were turned down at the last meeting, their reasoning is that they are afraid people will not take care of coops properly and they would get complaints left and right about the smell.
I am still watching and learning from you because we will be moving south of here hopefully in a few years, I will not make the mistake of being too close to town next time.
I’m so sorry. That’s one law I will defy if necessary. Luckily I’m out of town on six acres. I’m never giving up my flock. I adore every one of them. Yes they are livestock, however I treat them like pets. They treat me so good as well by providing our family with eggs, meat and compost for my garden.
What worked for us, we emphasized how it reduces kitchen waste, natural fertilizer, reduction in weeds, mice, scorpions, bugs, young snakes, etc. We went the green route on how beneficial it was for the environment.
❤
I feed Kalmbach. Seems like they have been making a mess with it. I have to clean up alot in the evening. Scattered around feeder.
Mine hates the cracked peas. It is always left over that they will eat before I refill their feeder.
❤❤❤
My problem this winter has been the wild birds passing their feeder by to eat the chicken feed. I had to wrap the entire 9 x 12 pen in plastic tarps, except the door. The poopy mess the wild birds were making was bothersome.
One 40 pound bag of feed lasted two plus months but the second bag I’d hoped to make it through March only lasted a month with a scant two weeks left.
Guess wild birds like chicken feed dry AND fermented.
I am changing feeder and waterer. Tired of cleaning wild birds passing their poop out of the water midday.
I tried the chicken feed fermenting thing before and it ended up smelling like rotten, putrid garbage :( I had to throw it all out! I'd like to try it again in the future. I'm not sure if I did something wrong though!
What kind of feed was it? There are some feeds that just don’t ferment very well. Definitely try again but a very small batch, I’m talking like 1/2 cup of dry feed! That way if it doesn’t work out you won’t be wasting much. You may want to try a different brand. ❤️
I came to say the very same - I have had nothing but stinky / rotten yuck and I don't know what I'm doing wrong 😔 @@WelcometoChickenlandia
I have fermented, chick starter, grower feed, and layer feed. Mash to whole grain. Never had any of it smell terrible. I use the One bucket method. Equal parts, water, and feed and a dash of apple cider vinegar. Just keep the same bucket going constantly clean it out fully every few months.
How much grit do you put on your feed?
I don’t put it in my feed. I scatter it on the ground or you could put it in a separate dish. ❤
@@WelcometoChickenlandia I see, I have more ducks than chickens. What I've been doing is doing is adding about a handful to a coffee can worth of grain. I use starter grit to 4 weeks then a 50/50 mix with grower from 4 to 8 weeks. Then just on grower. Do I need to go onto layer grit? My ducks and chickens don't have access to that size because they are on pasture and well the pasture is frozen solid.
My problem is that I have to have chicken feed shipped tome if I want the highest quality. That is not practical for my living situation. I found a great feed that I cold get from a natural pet store and was so happy- They started having trouble getting the corn free/soy free layer that I buy. I've been having trouble finding anything now without driving 60 miles for feed. Ridiculous for a backyard flock.
Why doesn't Scratch and Peck have an all flock feed? I don't want my roosters eating layer feed.
They are just really committed to the idea that each chicken needs the feed appropriate for its stage of life. Have you seen the one that these folks carry? This is an affiliate link because I also work with these folks. I do think they have great products: grubblyfarms.com/?ref=welcometochickenlandia&
@WelcometoChickenlandia Thank you for your response. I did end up looking up all flock and finding that company. Thank you. I remembered you mentioning that company in the past as well. It would be nice for scratch and peck to consider the roosters as well. They could just add another option for those who keep roosters in the adult stage. Maybe you could suggest that? ❤️
@ I am talking to them about! Stay tuned. ❤️
In my humble opinion the other glasses 🤓🕶️ look better on you 😁😉😁
Which ones? I have like ten pair. 😂😳😳😳🤓
So do your ducks think they are chickens or do the chickens think they are ducks?
Scratch and peck’s new facility puts rice in the feed and it’s super powdery. I had to cancel my subscription. I have emails to back this up.
I completely understand. You gotta do what's right for you! I know they use rice protein. I do have reservations about that but after talking to them and doing some research, I felt better about it. They are also the only organic non-gmo feed that I could find that is all sourced in North America, and they are local to me as well! But there are lots of good feeds out there. 🥰
More cluck for your buck
