It is important to note that there are essentially two Greenwich Villages: The East Village and The West Village. Each has their own distinct personality and history.
Hi! The other cool fact about Greenwich is that in 1940s Robert Moses proposed basically a highway right through Washington Sq Park and series of roads through Lower Manhattan which would totally kill the neighborhoods. The was a lot of civil protests from Greenwich Village and SoHo residents led by Jane Jacobs, it was a long fight and they managed to save the park
Aww! 🥰 I miss my hometown and my old neighborhood! Greenwich Village and a little bit of Chelsea. Despite how pricey the rent can be, this is the best neighborhood to live in in NYC.
Yes...Bleecker Street Pizza Nona slices are the BEST.. kudos to John's Pizza Restaurant, Keste Pizza Restaurant and Joe's of Carmine pizza place, as well.. Commerce St is a great cul de sac.. Gotta love Greenwich and the West Village... hey, East Village is totally awesome, too!! Nice video.
Thanks Sarah for such a great presentation! I miss the village and NYC as a whole (moved to Cali 17 year ago). Hope to visit soon. Be safe and stay healthy!
Sarah, Happy Saturday....speechless....another flawless video. The downloadable itineraries, genius! I'll be in the New York soon and look forward to going on one of your tours!😁🌼🌻⚘
Great video. Thank you. I will be in New York next week. 2nd time. First time I went to Greenwich Village was in 1992. Different place back then. Washington Square Park was sketchy area.
Hahaha! Sarah! “After breakfast I recommend a trapeze lesson!” Sarah, I absolutely love your videos, but that was the most ridiculous idea I’ve ever heard! 😂 let’s eat and go on a trapeze after! Hahahaha! Thank you for another wonderful video though as always! 👍🏽
I explored several NYC neighbourhoods on several trips there. by far my favorite neigbourhood. so much charm. could sit in WSP for hours just people watching.
Bleecker Street has a rich musical history. In the 1950s and 1960s, it was a central hub for the folk music scene, hosting legendary performances by artists like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Simon & Garfunkel at clubs like The Bitter End and Cafe Wha?
Yayyyyy!!!!! You finally posted this video!!! I’ve only been to Greenwich Village one time, and that was during the Pride March back in June. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that I was in the village, until 3 hours later. I’m actually thinking about possibly moving there in the future, but only during Pride Month....once I make enough money to live in the city. Thank you so much for mentioning the Stonewall Inn, and its history with the LGBTQ community in this video. As a proud member of the 🏳️🌈community, it always makes me smile to see people mention this historic landmark, when making videos about the village.
Sarah Funk it sure would be. Plus when I went up there, not only did I go to Washington Square Park, but I also went to Bleecker Street Pizza and it tasted so good. The only place I haven’t gone to though is the Stonewall Inn, so I have to go up there again really soon.
It is also known as the most unconventional neighborhood in the city. For example when I was born in 1956 it was the center of the beatniks culture. In the 1940s it was the center of the Bohemian movement and in the 1930s it was the advant guard movement to combat the effects of the Great Depression. I should know, I am a New Yorker.
Wow Sarah you are looking very nice beautiful in that dress as well as your hair body makeup nailpolish eyelashes lipstick skin eyes smile earrings are quite pretty amazing and fantastic video well done 😊😊❤️❤️
1. Very nice video with interesting info about "Greenwich Village" You talked about "Milk and Cookies". This word comes from "Koekies" a Dutch influence from the 17th century. (sounds the same). The English changed it in Biscuits. 2. An interesting building is 9 St Luke's place. In the basement was the movie "Want until Dark" taped starring Audrey Hepburn. The outside of this building is still the same with an hook/pothook on the wall. Just check it out. Audrey was also Dutch.... Ruud Mulder (NYC fan) The Netherlands
If taking a tour are there many opportunities or time to get pictures of tourist spots with my family during the tour? Wondering if we should use a tour guide and get all the great info or if we should explore on our own at our leisure and skip the history/ knowledge. We want the best of both worlds in all honesty 😂
It was a real treat and surprise running into you today at Bleecker Street Pizza and then again outside Smith's Bar! We'd love to buy you a cup of coffee, let me know. Only in town until Thursday Oct 17.
Great village tour. Lived by in Chelsea. The village was our backyard. Miss it. Just one thing if heard it right the Village is bordered on the west by the Hudson river not the East River.
Hi Sarah, congrats for your videos, they're very useful! Also, could you please do a video dedicated to wich are the best areas for living in Nyc? I am new in Ny and I need advices!!!
I visited NYC in 2018 watching your videos. I want to go back again in 2020 but not sure to go LA or NYC again. What's good in NYC that's suitable for a teenage kid?
Nicely done at first, then way too much commercialization. Great small restaurants and lots and lots of history were missed. Also, small shops have mostly disappeared because of extreme gentrification. As mentioned here, rents became costly by the end of the 1960s and early 1970s
I was there yesterday, sooo nice and pleasant. Nyc won't be like this again, it's less crowded thanks to the virus which I know it's a bad thing but I am enjoying it
Sarah there’s a song playing very softly in background at 5:19 Its a love song from 89’s I think. What’s the name of the song pls? By the way yu are always looking very glamorous 💕
Sarah, Thank you for the information you share. Give me chance to say that the Western boundary of this village is Hudson River. I am sure that's what you meant, but you said East River. Keep doing the good Job.

Now problem. We already knew.
Oh sorry!
My great great grandmother lived on lower 5th Avenue and was one of the neighbors from there who donated money to build the Washington Square Arch.
Loves lower 5th Avenue. Refuse to stay anywhere else on New York visits.😍

This wasn't in the fourties
Don't care what the food network says. Any real new yorker knows Joe's of Greenwich is the best pizza
I LOVE SOAPOLOGY!!!! When I stayed in Greenwich Village in 2017, I was right down the street from there so I went in every day!
Aww! 🥰 I miss my hometown and my old neighborhood! Greenwich Village and a little bit of Chelsea. Despite how pricey the rent can be, this is the best neighborhood to live in in NYC.
Sarah, this is one of the best video you ever made!!! Thank you!!!
Love your idea to tackle one neighborhood at a time. Hope you do other neighborhoods as well.

Thank you Sarah, this was so helpful! Especially the first 5 minutes. Will you be doing more one-day itinerary's for different neigbourhoods?
Great video. Thank you. I will be in New York next week. 2nd time. First time I went to Greenwich Village was in 1992. Different place back then. Washington Square Park was sketchy area.
Hey Sarah , love your videos girl. Keep posting.☺️
Hey, lovely video. But could we get more location/ sights recommendation over food places?
200% agree. She spent way too much time on food.
Hahaha! Sarah! “After breakfast I recommend a trapeze lesson!” Sarah, I absolutely love your videos, but that was the most ridiculous idea I’ve ever heard! 😂 let’s eat and go on a trapeze after! Hahahaha! Thank you for another wonderful video though as always! 👍🏽

Enjoy learning about the history of the area. I heard it was expensive to live there now.
you have a very down to earth vibe. good channel.
No mention of jazz clubs when talking about nightlife? Try The Village Vanguard or The Blue Note.
I love watching videos about Manhattan, when he covid thing dies down in a year or so I need to go across the pond for a visit. :)

Sarah love your vids, New Yorker myself, but an error at 1:40, you’re confusing the tourists!
