This brought back the most beautiful memories of the most beautiful cruise in the world! Norway- what an exceptional country!!! Just love the place and whole experience. 😍 will go back any day!!!
Am leaving for Norway in two weeks time and will board the Polarlys in Kirkines for a Southbound voyage to Bergen. I am so excited. I visited Norway in february 2017 to see the Northern lights (and was handsomely rewarded several times that week). I was staying at the Thon hotel facing the dock in Tromso when late at night I saw the Hurtigruten arrive in port. This year, I’ll be on board to experience it 💕 Update sept.2 - traveling on the MS Polarlys was such a pleasant experience that I want to board again. The staff is multilingual and very friendly. The food is really very good, served buffet style, and caters to the carnivore and vegetarian. I highly recommend it.
Thank you for the beautiful video of this trip. We were on this ship during September 2016 and your video helps us to re-live that wonderful adventure. Norway looks so different during January compared to September. You experienced so many "Northern lights". Thank you for sharing.
If you are wondering why it said ''POST'' on the Norwegian flag on the boat, it is because the Hurtigruten ships also ships and brings mail (post) around on their trips to several places in Norway along their way.
What an inspiring video. Great job ! I'm hoping to voyage on Polarly in Feb 2022. I do not usually take video these days but you have made me think again as this trip looks special. I had even booked the same excursions as you lol They recommend a pair of crampons for the walkable towns. Did you wear those ? Surprised at how good the light levels are in the vid for Jan. I watched a repeat of 'Cruising with Jane McDonald' doing this trip on the same ship so can't be too bad. Thank you !
Thank you for your kind comments; I hope your trip goes ahead as planned. We each had a pair of Yaktrax which we did wear occasionally when ashore. They’re relatively cheap and easy to put on and off. We were lucky with the weather ( hardly any cloudy days) and the low sun meant that “ golden hour” lasted a big proportion of the day. For photographing the Northern Lights, use a tripod and the widest aperture that you can. Focus at infinity. You then have to trade off shutter speed against iso. I limited iso to 1600 and that needed shutter speeds of 6-8 seconds. You can get shorter shutter speeds (less motion blur) by increasing iso (more noise). Or vice versa.
@@F70100 Very informative thank you. I will invest in a pair. I guess it's pot luck with the weather. I have heard it's difficult to photograph the lights but thank's again for the advice !
Great choice of music.. there's everywhere only ship tour talking reviews on ytb and its hard to find some without talking with just chill music.. Can I ask what are the name of these songs?
Thanks for your comment. Sorry, I don't have the song names for this; I needed to clear out some disk space and off they went. They were from Epidemic Sound.
We chose a starboard side cabin near the jacuzzi’s 😎. Platinum wasn’t worth the extra cash for us; we chose to spend extra on excursions. Hope the weather is kind for you to see the lights! Have fun 👍.
@@F70100 A bit of dronery going on too by the looks of it? Can I ask you about the aurora shots? Presumably some are taken on board so what about the settings for the movement? We're going in October.
All the aurora shots were taken from the ship; not much alternative... Movement is mostly evident when land is in the shot. I shot at f2.8, iso 1600 and shutter speeds between 2 and 8 seconds. Hope to see your shots after your trip! Have fun, and thanks for your kind comments. 👍.
Hi Kathleen, It’s a while since I put the video together; I’ll get back to you in a couple of days when I have checked the files. Thanks for your interest.
HI Kathleen I've checked, and due to the amount and size of the video footage I shot, I have deleted all the project files for this. I got some music from the free RUclips library and some from Soundcloud.

Relaxed and lovely! You let the scenery do the talking. Thanks for sharing.
What a fabulous trip! Great photos of the northern lights. I would love to go on this and see the lights, but the cold really puts me off.

You’re welcome. Hope you get to Norway soon,
Thank you for sharing your special trip!
I love how the snowplow made “snow explosions” every time they hit any depth. Amazing cool bus driver.

Hi, can I use a small clip from your video on my video on RUclips about Norway? I will give your name in the credits.
Hi Arvind. Yes, you can use a clip. Please make a link back to this video in the credits.
Best wishes

I'm envious!
Great info - we have booked for Jan 2020 - what cabin would you choose and is the platinum package worth the extra cost

Great aurora pics. What sort of camera? Full frame, APS?, etc?
Panasonic Lumix G80 with Olympus 12-40mm 2.8 PRO. Micro Four Thirds.
Many thanks for your comment.
