Verdena rules! May I suggest you some more italian artists? Try to listen to Max Gazzé, Subsonica, Planet Funk (this last dance pop group sings in english with many giest singers but the original group is from Naples). They are all very unique.
Italian artist give a lot of importance to lyrics. Therefore it’s not so easy to appreciate them as they really are. If you want to listen something similar to your taste try listening to VANADIUM.. is a 80s heavy metal band from italy but they sing in English..A bomb , trust me 🤘

In realtà è abbastanza ovvio. Battiato non lo capiscono gli italiani, figuriamoci chi non è madrelingua, cioè le canzoni di Battiato tradotte da Google translate.. Figuriamoci!
Lui purtroppo al il limite della lingua e un limite culturale, per esempio, ascoltando "Pensa" di Fabrizio Moro, non ha capito che la canzone parla di mafia, poi gliel'hanno spiegato nei commenti, ma inizialmente lui pensava fosse una canzone sullo Stato.
Ivan Graziani penso non l'abbia mai ascoltato, almeno non ricordo video in cui reagisce a canzoni di Graziani.
Alla fine questa è una classifica degli artisti italiani che lui conosce, non certo una classifica assoluta. Non è un esperto di musica italiana, praticamente ha scoperto la musica italiana con i Maneskin.
Tutto considerato, la trovo una bella classifica, anche se non corrisponde ai miei gusti.

Don't get me wrong, I respect your opinion, but I'd like to be able to show you Vasco's vocal skills under a different light.
His singing abilities are often underrated also in Italy, since he sings in an effortless and somewhat unassuming way, and the lived-in texture and the consistency of his vocals (and his weird lyrics) are the things that immediately strike new listeners. And rightfully so, it's almost impossible to cover a Vasco song and capture the same depth, same as with Bob Dylan, regardless of vocal prowess.
But when you pause and listen to some of his vocal parts, or even better, you try to SING along with them, you realize there's more to him than that. We're not talking about an Axl Rose of course, but beside the skillful delivery he can also hit some crazy notes effortlessly!
Don't wanna change your mind and you'll be right if you'll remain unconvinced even after listening to more from him, but I'll buy you a coffee right now and suggest a couple of songs to try to get my point across 😉

Unfortunately, the differences in cultural background, history and language do not allow a non-Italian person to appreciate artists like Lucio Dalla for example, or Mina, or Adriano Celentano, or musical groups like CCCP-CSI, where the lyrics are fundamental, where the Musical processing is very deep but not common, not international, not standardized. Musical groups like CCCP-CSI are strange and difficult to understand even in Italy, let alone abroad.

Interesting to see an american guy to make a his chart of top 10 italian prefer artists.
I'm italian but I don't think I could to do that, maybe would be easier for me to choice 10 disks, but to choice 10 artists is very difficult. Usually I don't have a prefer artists 'cause I don't like all the disks or all the songs of an artist.
Anyway the italian artists listed are among the most commercial and I'm really surprise to find up Maneskin in first position.
if I should choice 10 prefer italian artists for me I should subdivide at least between just singers or songwriters and bands and I'd say:

I recommend listening to 'Zeta Reticoli' by 'Meganoidi' or even their eponymous track 'Meganoidi'.
you should listen to 70's italian progressive rock bands; it is a kind of renaissance artists who took their inspiration from many styles; anglo-american rock, jazz and european classical music. Sometimes they were/are too experimental, but they are really good. Italian cantautori are very good as well, but less pleaseable for a foreigner cause they give too much importance to lyrics and less to the sound.

I can agree about your top 10 italian favorite artists, based on what you were reacting to. I also understand some of the comments where somenone says that you forgot other italian artists like Dalla, Battisti, De Andrè, etc. but I think that for non-italian people is much more difficult to appreciate these artists rather than Matia Bazar for exemple. Just because these artits like Dalla, Battisti, De André, etc., deal with subjects that are probably more near to a strictly Italian culture, rather than adapting to international tastes. And this is probably even more true when it comes to the way in which they deal with those subjects. However my only "complain" is that I would have inserted Giorga in the top ten, probably replacing Marlene Kunz (in Italy not everyone knows Marlene. Kunz, but everyone knows Giorrgia, even if also some italians don't appreciate her to much, whilst in my opininon she's one of thre greatest italian singers). Based on the reacitions that I saw, may be you didn't insert her because you didn't hear her best songs with the excetpion of the song "Mars" (some of the songs you reacted to, like "Io fra tanti", were completely unknown to me). May be that you change your mind if you hear some of her most famous songs like "Come saprei", "E poi", "Vivi", or "Gocce di memoria" or if you see some of her covers, like "Natural Woman" or the cover of "Cambiare" (a song of her ex-boyfriend Alex Baroni, who was also a singer that died a few time after they broke up. Hi Ang, great ranking, i appreciate it. Some time ago you asked us to recommend a song similar to "Cavallo Bianco" by Matia Bazar and i suggested "Fantasia" by the same band. Possibly the live one in Munich in 1987. It's truly disturbing, a dark and gloomy atmosphere, it refers to the Cold War in Europe and Antonella Ruggiero expresses herself to the fullest, while the band supplies her with exceptional musical accompaniment, simply crazy!!!

One suggestion for pronunciation; on contrary of English, Italian is really easy to pronounce, because you read exactly what you write.
I mean you don't need to invent pronunciation of Vocals as an example...E is E all the time, A is A etcetera (like Elisa you are not pronouncing ILISA but E-L-I-S-A or Zucchero is "ZuKKEro").

Hi, not all of Vasco's songs are on the same level, but in my opinion his true nature is to be a poet, and a multifaceted one. Not only does he stand out for his creativity in writing song words, but as a performer he also surpasses in sincerity most singers with better voices. From Gino Paoli to Francesco De Gregori, there's a plethora of artists before Maneskin! However, thank you for your list
I maneskin sono molto sottovalutati qui in Italia al momento ingiustamente secondo me per alcuni semplici motivi che molti ignorano .
Loro sono riusciti a riportare il rocker ormai morto a livello alto cosa che nemmeno più le grandi band riescono più.
E soprattutto ormai sono anni che si crea musica e trovare idee e testi che non sono stati già scritti è sempre più difficile. Quindi attaccarli come fanno molto fanatici che dicono che hanno scritto zitti e buoni mica fuel. .. ok grazie al piffero è già stata scritta. Non si può tornare a fare cose già fatte.

Le classifiche vanno fatte per categorie: i cantautori, le band, i cantanti, l'opera. Poi ci sono grandi compositori come Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani e Nino Rota.
