In-plane switching (IPS) monitors have better color accuracy and wider viewing angles than non-IPS monitors, also known as twisted nematic (TN) monitors. IPS monitors are also better for viewing in different environments, such as direct sunlight, low light, indoors, or outdoors. Colors on an IPS monitor won't shift when being viewed at an angle as drastically as they do on a TN monitor.
