Imagine being the ground crew, watching the planes trying to take off. One is shooting of rounds while hitting buttons, the other is spinning in a circle because they only have one engine on.
and then that same spinning plane's tail end drops to the ground and the plane's left wing hits the ground hard with the plane and like 4 hours of your work proceeding to disappear 4 seconds later
First few seconds made me realize how nerve racking it must be to see a plane and wonder if it's a enemy or one of your dipshit squadmates being out of formation
It doesn't matter too much because IL-2 is more or less a trash arcade-y game, most times you won't even spot friendlies or enemies until they're either on your face or right behind you and getting you killed in 3 bullets.
@@zeusparrudo4601 That's kind of how it works. Most people who got shot down didn't see their attacker, they just got hit by surprise attacks and their plane was done for before they could respond. Obviously this is a random guess (for all I know you have a thousand hours in the game, and I haven't really played it myself, just seen footage) but it sort of sounds like you just need to get more experienced, or possibly take a break from the game if it's aggravating you so.
Pilot here, some extra things Braun could have done to deal with the fuel leak: (just in case you find yourself flying a damaged HE-111 ;) 1. Set the engines to max continuous power and start climbing, to build up as much energy as possible (there is no point being fuel efficient here, it will just come out of the leaks) 2. Point the airplane to the nearest airport safe to land at. (start descending if close to it) 3. Check which fuel tanks are leaking and by how much using the fuel gauges, and set the engines to exclusively feed off the fastest draining tank (switch to the next most leaking tank once this one empties) 4. Constantly look for emergency landing spots while flying 5. (If flying far is needed) Once up to a high cruise altitude, maintain max continuous power and build up as much speed as possible, while feeding off of leaking tanks. 6. When all leaking tanks are exhausted, switch to the non-leaking tanks and reduce power to most economical cruise 7. Land as soon as possible 8. (If an engine fails) Feather the propeller on the failed engine, maintain coordination with the rudder, set the other engine to maximum emergency power, slow to best single engine climb speed, retract flaps and gear until absolutely needed 9. (If other engine fails) Feather all propellers and slow to best glide speed 10. (glide to land) gear down, approach high and fast, drop full flaps to lose energy at the last second, flare and touchdown normally, coast to a taxiway to exit the runway 11. (glide to land off airport) select an open, soft area, gear up/down (pilots preference), approach high and fast, drop full flaps to lose energy at the last second, level out just above the ground, flare extensively to drain all remaining energy, and stall wings level and nose slightly high just as the airplane hits the ground (for minimum energy impact)

The Bf-109 is like the most iconic fighter of WW2. There are *hours* of historical dog fight footage of 109s getting shot down that is in damn near every single piece of media ever made on WW2. The I-16 is a radial engine plane. It's huge compared to the inline 109. How in the hell did Bo not realize he was shooting Swimmy?!?
When you're not at bit versed into a particular hobby, it's easy to get vision tunnel. Here he simply went right, probably had a LOS on the bandit, got VIS on the 109 and in the heat of the moment assumed it was the bloody bandit. You would be surprised how much theses things tend to happen.
And today we mourn the loss of Airman Braun... he lasted for all about 10 minutes on his mission, nevertheless, he will be remembered for his rather substandard performance, and serve as an example of what it means... to be a true failure. Lesson over!!! Thanks Bo!
If it still works you guys could try the IL2 1946 expansion or game. It's been a long time since I played either so I'm not sure if it's a full game or an old expansion pack. Great stuff as usual Mr. Bo!
Just wanted to say that this is one my new favorite videos on your channel. You and the boiz figuring out how to fly in IL2 feels like a match made in heaven. Please make more IL2 videos
I love watching Bo and the gang actually cooperate and try to work together, and being all nice and supportive to one another instead of screaming. The screams are funny but this is refreshing.

as an avid il-2 player this was both great and painful to watch. i have no idea how the hell you managed to turnfight an il-2 with the energy advantage in a 109, also please at least get opentrack and aitrack to look around, your situational awareness definitely needs all the help it can get, especially since you didn't even remove the 109's useless armour plate that blocks out vision of your literal most vulnerable area.
