Man Bob! You have an AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL collection. Borders on a "Museum"!
I also love your attention to detail/neatness when you work on something.

...the aftermarket phono retrofit kit sold by various companies like Phico. My 116 has one also.

Quite a project. I would be interested to see some of the original sales brochures and advertising that promoted the "Magnetic Tuning".

FYI; I was able to reuse the original speaker connector pins when I replaced the speaker wiring harness; fortunately, they were merely soldered to the wires, rather than crimped! She's still running great, by the way!

One of my neighbors has one (maybe two) of those Philco sets! They offered to give it to me, but I turned them down for the same reason...lack of space.
I'm greatly curious to see that preset tuning system in action. I'm also rather surprised, even with the lack of space, to hear that you want to sell your "first ever" antique radio.

+uxwbill It wasn't an easy decision, but I really do needed the space (and money) plus my 37-690 has all the same features and a whole lot more :)

This will be fun. I just finished capping a 38-2 which is very similar. Now I need to replace 3 tubes. They cost more than the radio did…

Saw one of these models at a thrift store today, it was a full console with 78 rpm record changer, and it's in very good shape. I have no place to put it is all, so had to pass. They said the radio works, and it's very clean inside, the speaker didn't look rotted or damaged. It was hard to pass up and it'll still be there tomorrow. But I really didn't feel like spending another $150 either. Beautiful piece though, the record changer was in as good of shape as I'd ever seen on something this old, I know it never saw any hard use.

This is going to be fun! I'm well into a 37-11 but have yet to snag the buried caps in the Rf unit. Will probably resort to disassembly as described at johnjeanantiqueradio.com/philco.htm. I have two 37-11 sets here and the 4 pilot lamps were pointed to the front on one set and toward the dial on the other. Looks like yours are mixed? Handy that they provide the plug above the chassis to remove and service the wiring harness for the lamps. Really looking forward to watching this series!

+K9UW I just unsoldered the wires going to the RF unit and pulled it out. Much easier to work on now :)

Picking up a 37-10x later today or tomorrow for $10. No idea of the condition of the insides. Outside will need to be refinished as it's been sitting in a garage apparently.

Beautiful set, I have a 37-11X which is very similar. The top of your cabinet is gorgeous beyond belief with the stair-stepped edging. Love it! The tuning dial to tuning capacitor coupler on mine was harder than the hobbs of hell (link below to the rebuild of mine). Yours looks different than mine. There are MANY bakelite blocks in these sets. Restuffing them was a pain, as it's super-tight under this chassis and I unsoldered all wires and totally removed them, which I guess you don't really have to do.
Make sure to order the 1KV+ rated caps that go on the plates of the audio output tubes if you don't already have them. I have to order these each and every time I do a Philco, because I always forget about their high voltage rating.
