- Be careful strengthening your painful glutes and piriformis! It's common that strengthening an area that hurts makes people worse. Even the right strengthening exercise done in the wrong way (too much, too little, at the wrong time) can flare things up and set you back. In this video, I'm going to share with you 4 piriformis strengthening exercise secrets that ensure you strengthen in the most safe + effective way possible.
Keep in mind, its very possible that even though you FEEL weak and THINK or have been told that you're weak - and therefore strengthening will make you better - it's possible this is NOT true. So, if you're banging your head against the wall, doing every strengthening exercise under the sun, but it's not working... realize that strengthening may not be the best treatment option for you.

Dr. Charlie, what a great video, specific and with a great contribution for all of us who suffer from this pain. In my case I started suffering from piriformis 2 years ago, its triggered when driving my vehicle which does not have the best driving posture. Of all the things I tried and the different doctors I saw, your contributions were the ones that helped me the most and gave me valuable information. I have been doing clamps and bridges as suggested in one of your videos for periformous syndrome and it has works wonders. I have stopped streaching and I have been pain free since then. Thanks to you.
My question is do we stop streching hamstring? or is it ok to strech hamtrings? I need to strech them because I want to increase my mobility as I am currently not able to touch my toes because of short hamstrings

Hey Mona! Good question- you may have to start on the LESS painful side- make sure the motion that you choose is yummy (doesn't make symptoms worse) OR you may have to start by finding an exercise OUTSIDE of the area of injury... looking upstream for example to the lower back or trunk. this would take some testing.
