- I sat on The Runway at Manchester Airport eating a Doner Kebab Burger with Airplanes flying over my head. Flight UAE17 from Dubai an Airbus A380 also flew right over me, so close you can see the pilot in the cockpit. Watch as I capture some stunning footage of planes coming into land at Manchester Airport.

My dad use to take me here in the late 90s/early 2000s when I was a kid. Miss you dad
Yeah great location for a pub I could quite happily sit there one afternoon with a few beers and a bite to eat watching all the planes but might well get a bit jealous and wish I was on one of them going somewhere nice for a week or two maybe longer maybe even relocate to another country I wouldn't say no too
If you go the the visitor center at the other end of the runway you can watch the planes take off and land and they do food in the hanger with a concord inside
There is a special thing about plane's gotta love them
Such a cool place. I really like Manchester Airport overall. Flown in and out many times and always enjoy it.
*It's hard to imagine those Planes are travelling at approximately 150 to 165 MPH when Landing ! - Didn't think much to the Doner Kebab **_thing_** and at £14.40 'ow MUCH WOW !*
The 380 looked far better than the 🍔🍔. You need to get close to Heathrow, a plane every 90 seconds from 6am til 11pm😊😊
Your becoming Jim bowen with the super smashing fantastic, it's great, lol love the airport like 👍✈️
Being a plane geek myself.. I could sit there all day Lee!!!!!
I come here now and again. Only an hour from where I live in Derbyshire. Lovely spot.
I used to go there with my Dad quite often over forty years ago. In those days the beer garden was just an overgrown scrub of land, the car parking was free and the only food was crisps and nuts; the pub was much more basic and traditional too. You would often go and the beer garden was shut too. I watched Concorde take off from there more than once! You don't forget that....
Amazing upload! Try the Green man pub near Heathrow, the planes more or less skim the roof of the pub.
.
Thanks for the day out and the experience Lee, a true planespotters' dream location. The take-offs must be awesome too...I will give this vlog a 10 +
I prefer the Runway Visitor Park most days as you can see them taking off too. The Airport Pub is great when the planes are taking off from that runway, they turn right in front of you
It’s looks great and I remember when I was younger lad seeing the train in London and it lots of fun 🤩 good job.
Forget the food and more Boeing, Airbus and ATR'S please.😃 think there were a couple of Embraer in the too!😉
I work a lot (and used to live in Bristol) that has British Aerospace and Rolls Royce (jet engins) almost next door to each other. Working near by one day an A380 (unliveried) prototype was testing in the area and flew so low down that I could actually see the pilot, what a sight.
"Not the best burger I've had." Now there's an advert for you!
Still amazes me how them big birds get off the ground, truly human engineering at its absolute best.
£14.40 for that, it's £4.40 at the very most! RIP OFF or what???? 🤬👎
Lee that bread bun looked like it has been defrosted as it was crumbling in your hand if it was fresh it would not break up like it did.
Been there a few times Lee. Fascinating couple of hours. However not during the school holidays.
The flying BRA from Newquay at 10:02 had a bit of a wobble on due to the wind, but well done to the pilot for landing it safely. Looked like a great day out!
Thanks for flagging this place! Amazing. Will definitely go - but on a weekday during term time if you get my drift 😂
Good job those planes arrive 'one after the other' - would be pretty awkward otherwise!!
Manchesters runway visitors park is also a fantastic place to watch the planes take off and land and that also has a cafe a shop and lots of things for the children to do etc ! A brilliant day out so try that one too Lee 🙌🏻👍🏻
That would drive me nuts,
I watch Airliners Live on You Tube and they seem to actually be in an area inside Manchester airport and I think there is somewhere to get food ? Fantastic view of take offs and landings. I too love airplanes and had a smile on my face watching this video.
Amazing place ...great vlog and hope its not too long b4 we see u back overseas
if you go down the road towards the airport there is an rvp area where you can get even closer there is a cafe there and an outside play area for the kids
Hi Lee, I understand the reason why airports change runways during the day is to give local residents some respite. This usually happens at 15.00hrs each day. The noise of taking off and landing is different, especially if the aircraft is taking off in the westerly direction. Also, I being an av geek would like to inform you that when Concorde was active it had a unique call sign of 'speed bird'' now all BA aeroplanes use the call sign 'speed bird'.
During school holidays, looks like hell on earth!!
Great for plane/train spotters. Not my cup of tea! But i hope your children love their day out.
Its a long time since i was last at the airport pub , But it does provide you with the following benefits , Great if your picking someone up from the airport and watch their plane landing and give them an hour to get through the airport and pick them up. Not sure if you can pick up for free these days, But tell them to meet you at the petrol station, Great also, Leave home early if flying out of manchester and park up at the pub for an hour and also great for days out... There is also a second viewing area and they have the Concorde in a shed and other planes plus dodgems and jets. There are many youtubers now getting set up at 5am in the morning for all the morning action.
Did you go back and try inside? How was that? There's refurbished jet engine booths amongst other things apparently?
Also... all them planes, makes you think of Air traffic control! Busy peeps
Lee, what a wonderful video! It was so enjoyable to watch! I would definitely visit that place if I lived in the UK.
I was sitting here thinking how amazing planes are and the people who fly them. You don’t realize how many airlines there are!
I kept cheering for an American plane to fly in but alas…no dice.
I guess it was too late in the day for American planes.
This video was one of my favorites! The A380 was truly massive!
Keep the videos coming!
A plane spotter’s paradise, I’ve seen other RUclipsr’s from here before. I afraid wouldn’t know a DC10 from a Boeing or a Tristar or whatever. I’m not a plane person. Food didn’t look great to be honest Lee well over cooked that burger. Fries didn’t excite me either. Nice place to take the family though.
wow 😄
Go to the runway visitor park at manchester. You are closer to the planes and you can book a tour on concorde too. There is a playground and visitor center and a couple of other planes you can go on. Well worth a visit😊😊😊😊
Loved it that you could see the passenger's waving while stuffing your face
If you’re taking the kids have a look at the official Manchester airport runway visitor park just down the road 👍
Hi Lee. If you're thinking of going at the weekend it can get very busy. I'd try and get there as early as possible to avoid disappointment as the car park gets completely full at weekends and there's nowhere else to park. There is also the runway visitor park at the end of the runway. There's more space to park down there so I'd go pub first then visitor centre - you''ll get vest of both worlds with takeoffs and landings that way.
A great place to go if you are a airplane geek like me or anybody can go there. They had a burger called the Antonov Burger when l went, that was a burger.Yet again another great vlog we always enjoy your vlogs. Many thanks Richard and Tanya from Southampton
Guy Ritchie has recently taken over Compton Abbas Airfield near Shaftesbury, Dorset. And has revamped the cafe and bar. There’s outside seating to view vintage planes flying. Great experience, and just down the road from James May’s pub.
Go there alot its great when they come right up to the fence to turn onto the runway great smell of jet fuel and great noise this time of year there using the 2 runways so when they are landing the way they are today they use the 2nd runway for take-offs you must come back when they are using runway 1 for take-offs this time of year runway 2 is shut from 9 til 11 in the morning then after 4 for the rest of the day
As a fellow aviation enthusiast myself I can highly recommend a visit to east Kirkby aviation museum in Lincolnshire to see the Lancaster Bomber that they are restoring to flying condition and a mosquito that is fully working but not airworthy. You can also book a taxi ride in the Lancaster Bomber. Well worth the money.
I remember when it was just a pub we used scanner to hear them talk to control tower the food 4.5
Get the train to Manchester airport. Get yourself to terminal 3 and walk the perimeter road to the airport pub. Save on the car parking fees and enjoy a beer.
My go to place for planes that lee love it it's a really good day out I don't drive but so easy on train 10 min walk from station always go for A380's
If you plan on going back to Manchester Airport try the aviation viewing park at the other end of the runway. Loads of space for the kids to run round. Nice cafe gift shop and a concorde, trident and nimrod. You can take your own picnic in aswell. Better views aswell of runway 1 and 2.
Used to work on Terminal 4 Heathrow and members of the team would disappear during the day to watch the planes come and go. A strange way to để stress but it worked. Happy memories. Interesting video. Keep them coming.
WOW! That was amazing to see, I thought the Virgin Atlantic was big too! Thanks Lee 😊
Love it there great for families been taking my kids there since they were toddlers now in there 30s n forties also i use Flightradar 24 all the time living on the approach flightpath of Manchester airport re the scran we always used to pack a picnic😋🤓
Well that’s different the children were louder than the planes. Definitely go when they go back to school and Dona burger Shame on you Lee.
You were a kid once ;) x
My thoughts exactly
@@TheMacMasterWe all were but it's supposed to be a pub not a kids playground. We were definitely never allowed to run around screaming in pubs back in the day. I will go when they're back in school
Hi Lee, another great video, when you go back to the airport, go to the other end of runway, where there is a visitor centre, there you are able to go into a concorde, see planes take off, and taxi after landing, there's a cafe and play area for kids, I am sure you and the family will enjoy it.
Is that the old Ringway Hotel ? Always recall there being something like that at Luton over 20 years ago, short walk from the main area, The easyjet pub, cheap food and beer, and a great way to kill a few hours whilst waiting for a connecting flight,
I used to live on fly path .Saw beautiful planes , in covid Chinook , typhoons delivering supplies to hospitals. Best Concorde flying over rooftop on numerous times .
Manchester airport also have a visitor's park where you can see concord, it's great views of the planes too.. 👍
I decided to leave work an hour early today as a Pilot.
The flight attendants started freaking out when I grabbed my parachute, though.🤣🤣🤣
I think I'll go when the kids are back at school.
If Interested you should go to the museum at the airport in Manchester there is a concord plane there good place next to the runway with more to see.👍👍👍
Doner kebab burger. What a terrible idea.
Use to go there every Saturday morning to watch virgin Atlantic going to Orlando three weeks before we flew 👍👍✈️✈️✈️
I love Emirates business class with the bar on the upper deck. I was in it last month.😆 I used to go to this pub often when I worked at Manchester airport.
We went to the runway visitor park at MAN a few weeks back with my 5 year old, they went to dual runway use at 11am on that particular day (Sunday) it’s a great day out, they’ve got someone on a PA announcing incoming and outgoing planes and other info, museum with Concorde, a nice little park for kids, absolutely amazing day out!
Sounds great. Still doesn't make me want to visit Manchester though! 😊
That's very, very cool Lee, love it🤩🤩🤩🤩💙food, drink and low flying planes 😳😳😆🤩
Good luck going at the weekend, it’s usually rammed and has no parking left 😊, but the place is great in the week as it’s quieter.
Great vid. As an avid plane spotter myself I love watching the planes at Manchester airport (there's a couple of guys have a dedicated RUclips channel and sometimes they video from the pub) When the planes are taking off they come really close to the wire fence at the pub which is brilliant. You should get yourself an airband scanner and then you could listen in to air traffic control which adds and extra dimension to the plane spotting experience. ( Can't broadcast ATC on youtube though as that would be illegal) Hope you do another vid with the kids (they'll love it) and hopefully you'll get a close up view of the taxiing take off aircraft next time. 👍😎
...and yet those fries looked really good and crunchy. In such a unique environment, I would give it a 10+ also, but the burger and fries a 6.5 for me.😊
Great app Flightradar 24 and footage of the planes. Shame about the burger.
Best video yet - thanks for the plane spotting ✈️❤
Love going there before we go on holiday and usually stay at airport Hotel the evening before, always go for a couple of drinks and watch the planes , great Vlog Lee
The aviation viewing area on the other side of the airport i think is better, your a lot closer to the planes as they taxi past you, and the pilots do wave at the kids if they wave . They have static displays and you can book tours of Concorde and the Nimrod which you have to book, plenty of food and drink, parking is a bit naughty at £10 for 3 hours.
Cracking video Lee. Try the airport viewing park at the end of the runway . Great day out and you can see concorde
So glad you've tried it excellent 👏food inside much better and also got manchester airport runway visitor park can book tours and get on the concorde in the hanger lol sure you'll try that out haha
Hello Lee. I was super excited to see the aircraft landing. I was also super excited to see your doner burger. That was disappointing. At least you gave it a try. When you return with your family you will make a better choice. Your family is going to be super excited. The aircraft 10, the burger 🍔 2 the time 3.40pm
I guess driving a "Milk Float" depreves you of the Roar of Engines, so this could be a way to get your engine roar fix;)
They alternate the runways they take off on due to the noise restrictions to give the locals a break from the noise some times of the day they use runway 1 for take off and landing sometimes they use 1 just for landing and 2 for taking off runway 2 is on the other side of the airport
Liked watching the planes. Burger wasnt upto much though. Something different..
Best time to watch planes taking off from the runway you were next to is between 09.00 and 11.00 each morning. The pub doesn’t open until 10.00 but on a Sunday they’ll let you in at 09.30 and that’s the busy time for planes.
Quite interesting this video because I’ve actually done the same with my dad a few years back
Nice balance between the location and food review. Next up for you, if you could review which major coffee shop has the best ham and cheese toastie. The ones at Marks and Spencer coffee shop is the winner there for me
Looks tasty that burger, well stacked and the crispy fries look nice. Good location you've got there, we've got a place just off the runaway here that is a bar/restaurant, can sit outside where I live, when the sun out, it's lovely up there
Another Great Video Lee,could sit there all day and watch those planes
Between 7-9 and 11-4 dual runways are in use. Wind direction determines which way they come in and go out. RVP is much better for viewing. You’re right up against the fence as they taxi pass and you’ve also got Concord, Nimrod, flight simulator and loads more to do.
Here here totally agree sixth best airport where we have been spotting in the World 🌍
Excellent video I must go there next time I got through Manchester. Your burger looked ok- I’m sure it would be less dry washed down with a cold beer … 10/10
Manchester Airport is lucky enough to have 2 runways so they use one for landings and one for taking off.
I expect they swap it around on an easterly wind so that's when you'd see takeoffs from your runway.
A380 is a dream, went to Australia on one.
Cheers
Phil
Been there as it's a paradise for a plain spotter and the food wasn't too bad either, we ate inside though. Hope you enjoyed it!
Food looked OK,nothing more.Passed the pub many times on the road and also sat on a plane.Didn't realise it was so nice.At times they use this runway for landings and take off's and other times just landings, the other runway being used for departures.i think the times are listed on the airport website.Obviously if they're using the other end you will see them taking off but landing ones turn off before reaching the pub.Class video.
The runway viewing park at manchester is worth a look you can get food look at some old planes like concorde for example and others, stuff for the kids to do as well.
I was at a wedding a fair few years ago in the New Forest and Concorde flew into Bournemouth airport. We were all outside having a drink and enjoying the sun when Concorde flew over very low - quick as a flash the best man turned to the groom and said "there you go mate - best flyby I could get for you as the Red Arrows are busy this weekend" - I thought as an off the cuff remark that was superb - in fact way better than the content of his best mans speech lol
That a great place to take children they have some rides and a great bouncy castle well worth a visit 5*
If you know where to park just off the roundabout where the 2 road tunnels go under the runways you can get to the southside viewing area for free* free because you are literally stood in a field. NO facilities. Take a picnic .......and maybe a fold out chair👍🏼
Lee … the pubs ok … if you want to see the planes taking off and landing just down the road from the pub is the Aviation Park … which has a Concord in it’s own hanger … our six kids grew up around the park … only problem now it’s full of other Vloggers … 🙂
Planes Take off and Land with the wind on the nose. The runways they use depend on which direction the wind is coming from 😊
If you're going back to the airport Lee, go to the Runway Visitor Park. Trust me. Yes, you have to pay for parking, but you get much more. The planes taxi right past you, there's the Concorde exhibit and tour, a model store, toilets, picnic tables, spotting mounds with telescopes and a cafe that actually serves good grub.. 👍
What a fantastic place to see planes. The burger looked really overcooked, no wonder it was dry.
My brother and his wife are James and Harriett 😊
Sat watching you eating a doner burger while eating a doner calzone 😁
Never mind the food though it's all about the A380. I need you to fly somewhere on one so I can live vicariously through your vlog (has to be a full tour) because you're more likely to travel somewhere before I do 😁
There's a place called the smokehouse, nearby which has its own bakery and some of the best smoked products money can buy it also has a cafe well worth a visit
If you go to the Greek island of Corfu, you can be both under and over planes approaching the airport! Walk onto a walkway over some water separating two areas of land, and you will be under planes coming down onto the runway. Then go up to a restaurant/bar and lookout area - and you can almost be above the planes coming down before they land! And it’s about time you did get away to the Greek Islands maybe for a change.
Nice idea, planes and food. Surprised you could hear the planes over the noisy kids…
