Great list! Narrowing it down must have been tough... I'd also recommend Night in the Woods, Cadence of Hyrule, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Ape Out, Slay the Spire, Katana Zero, Enter the Gungeon, and Wargroove. And Bastion also looks great, but I've just started playing it.
Guacamelee 2 is sadly such an underrated game. It is definitely one of my top 5 indie games right after Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Dead Cells and Celeste. Also Steamworld Heist is really good. And Children of Morta is worth playing.
I was wondering the dead cells game looks pretty cool but, should I get regular dead cells, DC: Rise of the giant, DC: fatal falls, DC: the fatal seed bundle, or, DC: the bad seeds (Btw I’m saying DC instead of dead cells bc it’s annoying to write so much)
Nice list! I also believe Gris, Into the Breach, Messenger, Katana Zero, Axiom Verge and Touryst deserve praise! And of course 2 of my all time favourite: Limbo and Inside are modern masterpieces! So many great indie games on Switch!
My only complaint with Gris is that I played it after finishing Hollow Knight, which took me weeks to complete, so by comparison it felt like it was over in the length of a movie!
I really like how diverse your list is! As to my recommendations, I'm thinking : Battle Chasers : Nightwar, Blasphemous, Dandara, Gris, Iconoclasts, Nine Parchments, Salt & Sanctuary, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Shadows of Adam, The Messenger, Vectronom. Not all of them are top 25 material, but they are most certainly worth picking up.
On Nintendo switch, I’m not to sure how but Stardew Valley is still on the best seller list in the eshop! Even after months after release, it still is gaining enough sales to stay in its place!!
Katana zero is my favorite game of all time. I dont care what people say. It may not be the best game ever but its perfect in my eyes. Ive played hollow knight and yes it is by far one of the best games ive ever played but still katana zero is just so good. Tldr katana zero good.
Very surprised not to see The Messenger on this list, judging by some of your high picks I'm certain you would enjoy it a lot. Other games I would highly recommend are Guacamelee 1&2, so funny and brawl-y metroidvanias. And Splasher, a hidden gem of a platformer I randomly discovered by myself on the eshop with no prior knowledge of it. My personal favourites overall are: Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Yoku's Island Express, The Messenger, Golf Story and Steamworld Dig 2.
I hear you... I finished Persona 5 (120 or so hours) and thought, "I need a light-hearted, casual game I can just play a little of now and then to recover from that epic storyline," so I bought Stardew Valley... ...500 hours later, I still wasn't bored and looked forward all day to coming home to play more.
@@kevinpatterson8901 Good choice. I'm sure that you'll probably love it. It's one of the best games released in the last while! I hope you enjoy. Did you play the original Persona 5?
Happy to see West of Loathing on this list. My top 5 indies are Tangledeep, West of Loathing, Siralim, Crashlands, and Torchlight 2 (has a major publisher for Switch port but its an indie).
Hi, just a question/suggestion can you put the prices in as well next time you do one of these? It would be very helpfull! Also great job this video is getting me really excited about indie games for when I get my switch soon!
When I saw Celeste at number 1 I just got all kinds of flashbacks, mainly the b-sides lol. Pure torture... i used to do the b-sides with my friend, we were talking or raging (depending on how long we were suffering) on Discord, we‘d kinda do a race (I won every time) but that introduced bluffing to our strategies of psychological warfare lol, I’d used to say things like ,,damnit“ I’ve been stuck here for 10 minutes, meanwhile I’m 4 rooms ahead of my friend. We never really finished the game because you had to collect all strawberries and the b-sides got frustrating on another level after chapter 5 or 6. really a great game tho

Baba is You!! Games in this list are great, games I see in the comments are awesome as well... I hope I just didn't scroll down enough but why don't I see Baba is You anywhere!? If you like puzzle games, that one's really good. You might get stuck on some puzzles though as they're not too easy!
Totally agree with the top 5 (Hollow Knight is definitively one of my favorite game). I'd add to the list The Red String Club, for its narrative dimension, Children of Morta, for its balanced combinaison of hack-and-slash and roguelite elements, and Baba is You for the amazing puzzles. Maybe also Return of the Obra Dinn ? (which I haven't tested yet)
Waiting for the holy trinity of Hollow Knight, Cuphead, and Celeste. I would have put Hollow knight at number 1 and include it’s amazingly interactive story and complex environmental storytelling; Celeste would come in a close second with the most important part of the game, the storytelling through gameplay. You really experience the same fear, anxiety, and triumphs as Madeline and I’ve never played anything like it. Just my opinion though, I’ll have to check out Ori and the blind forest as that seems to be right up my alley!
Ori and Ori 2 are two of the best games I have ever played hands down. Ori and the Will of the Wisps fixed every (minor) issue I had with Blind Forest.
1) Hollow knight 2) Cuphead 3) Owlboy 4) Shovel knight 5) Ori and the blind forest 6) Candle 7) Celeste Is guacameele indie? If so, add It to the list. To be honest, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were very difficult to rank.
Night In The Woods! Amazing art, soundtrack, and story. There isn't much game to play but it is mainly a story game anyway however, you still can play bass to songs like Die Anywhere Else and Weird Autumn or play a game within this game called Demon tower which is very good!
Agreed, katana zero, gris and cadence of hyrule must definitely make the list! I put hollow knight above all else tho.. not many people know about gris but I started playing it after searching for a relaxing game before going to bed; and now I can say it is one of the best indie games out there, top five for me.
Amazing video and great channel. I hope you can make more videos like this but by genres: best Metroidvanias, best plataformers, best action games, etc.. on switch. Also I hope you can make your Top 20 NOT indie games on switch. Regarding this video, I agree with the Top 3 (although I would have a different order), agree also in most of the list (probably 20 from the 25) which is a really high percentage (different order although). Thimbleweed Park, Hotline Miami, Into the breach, Enter the dungeon and Axion Verge should have made it.
Thank you! Yeah i can do that for sure regarding different genres:) and I do have a top 25 games on the switch as well if you want to see that. They announced Axiom Verge 2 recently. The switch has a ton of great indies xD
So I loved the first half of The Messenger but once it goes 16 but it kinda lost me. I was hoping for Metroidvanis but instead it felt like a collectathon.
Not on this list but Tower of Babel - no mercy is on my switch non stop with my kids. Very good game to play toghether ! abit like tetris or tricky towers
I’ve played Celeste, absolutely adore and cherish the game. I’m going to buy hollow knight soon, and I’m super excited to play it!! Heard nothing but great things. I also believe that a hat in time is an absolutely fantastic game, probably more so on pc and switch compared to Xbox and PlayStation tho
Got an idea for ya. There's a new-found item duplication glitch. I started a new farm, got mega rich, but still need to develop skills to unlock the better crafting recipes. It's a fresh perspective; you got rich in the city before inheriting grandpa's farm, now you have money to spend but still need to do all the things to build an ideal farm, so you appreciate the work of a hard day's labor. Unfortunately my character is a douchebag and completed the Joja questline (for the 1st time) just by donating money. That too makes you realize how shallow being rich can be when you don't have to work for what you buy.
This is, to date, the single best and most informative switch games list I ever saw. Thank you for making it!! You have earned a solid like + a subscriber ;) keep up the good work
Shovel Knight and Undertale got done dirty. Your top ten is overall pretty good but... I enjoyed Owlboy but, aesthetic aside, I'd never ever rank it higher than those two games
This list is awesome. It's missing a few greats, including Katana Zero, Neo Cab, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Ape Out, Iconoclasts, Gone Home, and Wide Ocean Big Jacket (which released after the creation of this list), among others
Great choices but I would add TOWERFALL, I is by far the best multiplayer game out there next to KILLER QUEEN BLACK ! These are 2 jewels that you would love if you love to play smash brothers with your friends. Both must be on the top 5 multiplayer games.
Hollow Knight has gone beyond the indie/AAA divide, as it lacks for nothing in the way of polish that a smaller budget usually implies. It is top 5 this gen for me easy.
@@Rorschach87 i've played hollow knight a lot. but it's not that perfekt indie game. full of wrong design and gameplay choices. i don't like comments and critics like "best indie game ever". Maybe Silksong will change it all.
Rain World should have been on the list. It has some of the best pixel art I have ever seen in a game and physics based animations which makes every action from the player and movement of the AI unique. Every living creature within the world has their own agency and are just trying to survive like the player, making the world feel like a real living ecosystem. Rain World also has a deep lore and a emotional story. Honestly I can't praise this game enough, if you haven't played it then you have to give it a try.
I agree with the comments, 25 is a small number, with just how many great games there are on Switch. Some missing in the list and comments section are Bloodstained Curse of the Moon, Cadence of Hyrule, Downwell, Fight n Rage, Horizon Chase Turbo, Katana Zero, Overcooked, Return of the Obra Dinn, Slay the Spire, Steamworld Heist, Towerfall, Thumber and probably forgetting stuff.
Definitely agree, honestly my favorite game, period. Better than Dishonored, Skyrim, tales series, Undertale, Cod, Battlefield, witcher 3, destiny, overwatch, papers please, any mario game, any pokemon game , heck even better than dark souls, castlevania and metroid imho, the games it is basically based on. Just the entire package is so complete. The price, the gametime, the 3 man developer team, the audio, graphics, gameplay, free dlc on top of the cheap price, progression, level design, animations, precise movement, diffficulty buildup and challange late game, story, characters, freedom of exploration, challenge, Different routes to take, different ways to play, heck even the tutorial was so well done (some guy did even a video on this). Simple game, yet so well executed. They wanted to make a DLC about one of the best characters Hornet on the suggestion of fans and donators? They make video, "listen guys, we got too many ideas, we are making an entire game out of the DLC". Best. Developers. Ever. Silksong, the only game I would actually pre-order.
@@ShadowHunter002 "Silksong, the only game I would actually pre-order." Me too. Just waiting on that. Really hope it is going well with them and that project because I haven't heard a lot recently.
@@systemafunk with all the support coming their way, it wont be an issue, otherwise, the only thing they need to do is upload a video on the current situation, and im sure everyone who loved hollow knight will help them with donations the only thing we should wish for is a good, healthy and happy life for all of them, that is something we cannot help them with
Nobody includes The binding of isaac afterbirth plus on this type of videos nowadays its not like it was there from almost the beginning, i heard, and its still great
@@JayWood2010 yeah i get it now, I really enjoyed the video but it stil whished they were more videos talking about the good games like isaac and meat boy that deserved the port they got. What Im just trying to say it that i believe to many people nowadays asume people know that games but yes I was of topic becouse i didn't observe the title
@@ionescustefan295 you're completely right. The problem I ran into was that there was so many good indie games on the switch it started to become an issue on how exactly to narrow it down to just 25. I'm glad you let me know though, and you make very valid points.
This list(in my opinion) is near perfect The only things I would do is add terraria, don't starve, sparklite, ape out, katana zero and change hollow knight and Celeste position good video
Cuphead, Celeste, Ori, and Hollow Knight in the top 5?! Agreed!

#2 - Dead Cells
#1 - Hollow Knight
Two other great indie games:
1. The Gardens Between
2. Gris.
Rime looks awesome, I’m thinking of getting it.
It runs poorly on switch tho

Yaga, Transistor, Undertale, Golf Story, West of Loathing, Snake Pass, Moonlighter, Rime, Banner Saga, Shovel Knight, Monster Boy, Earthlock, Yooka-Laylee, and Owlboy look good, too.
I would add some strategies like Enter the Breach and WarGroove
2 solid games
🙌 Hollow Knight, Celeste, and Ori and the Blind Forest 🙌. Would also include Towerfall and Children of Morta
Daniel Dickson heyy whats about moonlighter and salt nd sanctuary both are good games too
Shovel Knight and Undertale got done dirty.
Wish Night in the Woods was on the list :)
Hollow Knight is the best indie game ever
Hollow Knight has gone beyond the indie/AAA divide, as it lacks for nothing in the way of polish that a smaller budget usually implies. It is top 5 this gen for me easy.
@@Rorschach87 i've played hollow knight a lot. but it's not that perfekt indie game. full of wrong design and gameplay choices. i don't like comments and critics like "best indie game ever".
Maybe Silksong will change it all.
Blasphemous >>>>>>>>>>> HK
@@Ten_Piedad pfff another Soulslike copy paste game. brazenly
Hurdy Gurdy not a souls like so shut up
Rain World should have been on the list.
Good list. It had a good few games that weren’t on EVERY other top indies list 👍🏻
Great video, I'm gonna get a few of these. how do you compare shovel Knight to super Mario but not duck tails? 😂 The shovel bounce
Guacamelee and the binding of issac?
I can also recommend Fe by Zoink! Very lovable art style and a nice story told through cryptic runes and flashbacks
A fun 3D platformer!
I could try to do 50 sometime in the future, but the length of the video may be too long for people. It could end up pushing 30 minutes
@@JayWood2010
You could always do a part 2 video :)
In my humble opinion, in this generation of video games, There is nothing like Hollow Knight, not even BotW or Mario Galaxio, which are superb games.
Hollow knight is an instant classic and a masterpiece :)
@@ShadowHunter002 "Silksong, the only game I would actually pre-order."
Me too. Just waiting on that. Really hope it is going well with them and that project because I haven't heard a lot recently.
@@systemafunk with all the support coming their way, it wont be an issue, otherwise, the only thing they need to do is upload a video on the current situation, and im sure everyone who loved hollow knight will help them with donations
the only thing we should wish for is a good, healthy and happy life for all of them, that is something we cannot help them with
Yesterday I bought Stardew Valley, and damn this game is so addicting. I just can’t stop playing
Nobody includes The binding of isaac afterbirth plus on this type of videos nowadays its not like it was there from almost the beginning, i heard, and its still great
In this video my focus was on newer games. Its the same reason that some of my favorites like Cave Story and SuperMeatBoy wasnt on here.
@@JayWood2010 thanks for having this conversation with me, I really apreciate it have a nice day
@@ionescustefan295 no problem at all, any time at all. You do the same :)
Getting a switch in a few days... extremely excited.
Thats awesome, its an amazing console. I hope you enjoy it :)
@@JayWood2010 Thank you friend, I'm starting with Hollow Knight, Celeste and Night In The Woods. I'm interested in many other titles as well
I love the adventure pals , hob , yokus island
Yoku's Island Express is topnotch!
Great finds for me! Thanks for the help!
Nice list, these games a definitely worth checking out
Hollow Knight is definately #1 IMO.
One of the better list of top games that I seen..beside the different ranking. Most are good, although I only own a few of the titles.
I agree with the number 1...so well deserved
I'ma sub bro bc ur showing me sum great games n I'm just getting back into gaming so thanks
Orbitblazers !! For me one of best Indie games on Switch.
This list(in my opinion) is near perfect The only things I would do is add terraria, don't starve, sparklite, ape out, katana zero and change hollow knight and Celeste position good video
Thank you very much! Nice games you put there too :) I havent tried Sparklite though, ill have to go check that one out
Completely agree with your top two , but in reverse order 👍
