    Quick Correction: The 945 and 745 actually do have the same 1.2" display size. Like I said in the video I didn't have any official specs on the 745 so I had to rely on manual measurement and the thinner bezels of the 745 gave the illusion of a larger display. So yeah! Same screen size, the 745 has much smaller bezel. Carry on with your day 😬

    Thought a lot (and long) about what I’ll buy and ended up with the 245 music. I’m a pure runner and I couldn’t be happier! It’s a bit smaller than the new 745 and also bit slimmer, and that form-factor is great for me! As far as i know it even has the same HR-sensor like the 745 (please correct if I’m wrong)
    So if you don’t need all the functions of the 745 you can get a similar watch in a (in my opinion) nicer form-factor for half of the money.
    Still wouldn’t say no to the 745 of course ;)
    Great vid again!

      @@marisablanchard7848 Im super happy with it! Never had a 645 on my wrist, but I think if you don't need GarminPay I'd stick to the 245 as its the newer wach and a bit smaller/thinner. I also love that the display has a much smaller bezel than for example the 945.
      Concerning your question: Im using it with AirPods Pro which don't have a volume control on the buds itself. But start/stop, jumping forward etc. works from the earbuds as well as from the watch. So im pretty sure you can also change the volume on your headphones.

    Great review! I just received my 745 yesterday and I like it! It is perfect for my needs. I hesitated a lot between the 945 and 745, but, as someone who doesn't do UltraTrack, I don't think the difference between the two watches is quite significant. However, as said in the video, I indeed think that if someone does long activity and need a longer battery life, then one should go with a 945 or Fenix.

      Little steep! But it does most of what the 945 does in a smaller, lighter package for $100 less. I'd say if you were interested in a 945 and don't think you'd ever use the on-board mapping or extended battery the 745 is a compelling option. Great Review!
    One serious question - as a triathlete (Ironman) i own a 935. Ist the upgrade worth?
    I like the pulse measuring when swimming and the training recommendations (but i think i already have a good Idea what to do) and i guess the HR is measured more accurate. Also i like its a bit more compact and the visibility of the screen is also better.
    Not sure, because its quite expensive
    PS: the battery time seems a bit low for long distance. If it degrades over time and the 16h are probably optimistic it could be not enough for slower athletes doing an ironman...

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад

      From the 935 it's not a huge leap forward. You do get some of the niceties of the newer generation of Garmin watches like the upgraded user interface, music capabilities, new HR sensor, and added metrics. If you find that stuff valuable it might be worth it. The battery is definitely a bit of a disappointment for me as I'm a distance runner. Something to note... the 945 is actually on sale right now for only $14 more than the 745. The 945 would certainly be a pretty big upgrade. Here's a link! amzn.to/3ll7iwd

    Thanks for the review. Does the 745 follow on from the 945 and have a brighter and more reflective display than the Fenix 6 or Fenix 6 Pro? I have a Forerunner 245 Music and I'm interested to know how the others compare. Can I assume the 245, 745 and 945 all have identical display properties and all are 1.2" with 240 x 240 pixels? Does the glass e.g. Gorilla Glass 3 or DX or Saphire make any difference to either brightness or reflections, or is it just durability against scratches or damage? Simon

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  4 года назад

      Hey Simon. The 745 has a Gorilla Glass display with 240x240 pixels. It's basically identical to the 945. Sapphire DOES have a pretty big impact on visibility. It's much more reflective and thicker which results in a slightly dimmer display. Gorilla glass is super clear... but not as durable. Hope that helps!

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад +1

      Kinda depends what you're doing with it. If you want mapping, and more navigation features the 5Plus TI is pretty awesome. The 745 has similar battery life, and it gets the new training metrics like Training Load Focus and suggested workouts. For hiking/exploring I'd go Fenix. For daily training, road running, or triathletes I'd go 745.

    hi, I love your channel. one big question/recommendation. I used to have a garmin 235, recently bought the 245 and only 4 days I got desapointed because it's little (maybe it's only because I was used to the 235 45mm size). Thought on bought the FR 745 / F 6s pro; what´s your oppinion? I use to run on track/road for half or marathon. I like very much the 745 size 43,8mm instead the 42mm of the 6s pro. could you please help me? I would like to listen music but it's not a priority.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад +1

      I'd say go for the 6s pro if you can afford it. The 745 is really designed for triathletes and it's actually less functional for purely running than the 245. For instance, the 245 has 24 hours of GPS-ON battery life where as the 745 offers 16. The 745 is a better multi-sport watch but the 245 is better for running. The 6s on the other hand does it all and offers more battery life than both the 245 and 745 while having the option for offline mapping. Hope that helps!

    Great review. For the price diff, I don’t see why to get the 745 instead of spending $100 more for the 945. Both are overkill for my fitness level, but I have large wrists and the 245 is too small and I’m not a fan any more of Apple save for the phone function while I’m outside.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  4 года назад +1

      There's a couple of reasons. If you're not engaging in more than 10 hours of GPS activities a week, and you don't find yourself in situations that require full topo mapping there's little to no reason to upgrade to the 945. There's also the fact that the 745 is smaller and lighter which some people might find more comfortable. And yeah, you save $100 bucks! Both are great watches, but they're different tools for different jobs. Thanks for watching!

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  4 года назад +1

      Grit X has much longer GPS-ON battery life and I think the sleep tracking is a bit better. Garmin has the advantage of connect IQ and all that has to offer, more "smarts" in terms of training data and options. I'd say both could do the job but if you need extended battery longer than 16 hours the Grit X would be the better bet. Thanks for watching.

    Hey Garmin, if you’re reading comments here is your next product: The Garmin Gymrat or some silly number. It has a focus on strength training without the silly rep counter. You simply select the muscle group your targeting or combination group depending on your workout. As it is a more sophisticated calorie estimation, the battery life is really long. I do cardio but I am not a marathon/triathlon guy and want a device that is catered to that.....I am tired of my Apple Watch 5 wimpy battery and I really hate the Garmin rep counter

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  4 года назад +1

      Interesting! Can't you manually set the reps? Seems like this kind of use case is pretty popular it's surprising that no one has capitalized on it particularly with Crossfit gyms being so popular these days. Thanks for watching.

    • @arizonabuckeye5225
      @arizonabuckeye5225 4 года назад

      Chase the Summit You can edit it but that’s time consuming. I am not interested in tracking every set, rep, and weight. I think a lot of lifters keep it in their head. I think it should be optional. The exercise sensor guessing the exercise is pointless. However, I think they could mine a lot of data on someone selecting their day: chest, back, legs, etc. to have more accurate calorie counting. I simply just discount the calorie guess of the Apple Watch and Garmin. It’s grossly over estimating calories expended. I basically use 1/4 of the estimate when calculating my daily calorie goals. We are getting there but I simply want a device geared toward lifters who use in gym cardio or hiit. I am not a CrossFit guy but I imagine they would love this too...

The battery will need to be charged mid-activity and thats never fun. It also doesn't have full mapping like the 945/fenix 6 if you find yourself off the beaten path. In terms of text message response, it only works on Android (not iphone) and you simply set up a bunch of pre-written responses in Garmin Connect like "I'm on my way" or "I'm near the finish line". nice video :-) Is it possible to get the time of sunrise/sunset on the watch face?

    Garmin has so many “micro” variations between models. I think it confuses consumers. I own the 945 and older Fenix 5, and much older Garmins. I’m a fan of the quality, but I do think they have too many models. I’ve been eyeing the Apex Pro, sorry Garmin I’m thinking of cheating on you.

      I actually prefer having more models. For instance in the current forerunner line up you have the 245 for purely running up to marathon or 50k distances, 745 for triathalon and multi sport, and 945 for ultra marathon distances at price points representing features. But I agree that its confusing. It would be cool if Garmin had a web survey to help users find the right device!
      What interests you about the Apex pro? Thanks for watching!

      Chase the Summit Don’t get me wrong, I’m obviously a Garmin fanboy as I’ve bought so many over the years... The Coros battery life is interesting.

    It's literally the 945 but physically smaller, @ 500$. Man Garmin is really innovating these days aren't they.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  4 года назад +1

      Not quite the 945. It's missing on-board mapping and has a reduced battery life in favor of a smaller footprint. It's nice to have options but it would be cool to see something entirely new from Garmin. I think this is still a solid update for hardcore triathaletes that are looking for a path forward from their 735XT. Thanks for watching!

      @@ChaseTheSummit I never knew you were bald!!! lol
      I would love to see something just totally knew from Garmin. I think the last real new thing was what, the Instinct, maybe the 935? I would absolutely love to see a completely new and revamped , inside and out, Fenix 7. Smaller body, Newer sleeker design but just as sturdy. New user interface, all new watch faces including customizable (like they have now), etc etc.
      Anyways keep it up, love your videos and you're awesome.

      @@KC-UT4rmAZ Bald by choice! Haha. Yeah, it would be cool to see a whole new Fenix soon. Something really small with excellent battery life and all the new tech. Thanks for watching!

    5:55 16 hours is even less than the 245, somthing is off with this model.

      Yeah it’s odd they went with such limited battery. Otherwise it’s pretty great.

      Interesting, my 945 came in a square box like a Fenix. Thanks for watching.

    Looks like poor 935 for homeless :/. I mean, it's quite same watch with few improvements and added few features but with half the battery - which is unacceptable for me. 935 has up to 14 days battery life and after 3 years of using it I have to charge it every 6-8 days. For 745 that's gonna be like 3-4 days after 3 years of using it. And I'm not that rich to buy new device every 2 yrs :(.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  4 года назад +1

      A longer battery life would have certainly made the 745 more appealing. But they didn't design it for those super long activities. Thanks for watching.

    • @flajflaj
      @flajflaj 4 года назад

      @@ChaseTheSummit I agree. But it would be so cool if the battery was somehow replaceable. I would buy new battery for 50$ after, let's say, 2 yrs and no problem at all.
      7 days is pretty OK, but after some time every battery gets old and lasts really short time. Anyway, good job on video :).

      It's actually pretty good compared to other MIP transflective displays. In direct sunlight its super readable. I should have turned the backlight up for this video. You'll see more in the full review coming soon. Thanks for watching!

    the battery of that watch is a joke, garmin is forcing the price of their watches. Nobody should buy this series

      It's still better than a lot of other options. Heck just a couple of years ago the top of the line Fenix 5 Plus only had 18 hour battery life. But yeah, for $500 bucks it's a bit high for not having top tier specs. Thanks for watching!
