Those buttons do seem more useful than I thought. I use the two on the lower right on the base of my wheel. I had the same issue trying to push buttons with the wheel spinning.
From my knowledge, the buttons on the shifter are mostly for Truck Simmers. Range and Splitter buttons, some of these ebay/aliexpress options come with the buttons as a switch on the shaft. They work really well as someone who didn't think they would want a shifter until after building a cockpit and starting to branch out on its uses.
i will love to see reviews of other steering wheels ( such as a cheap wheel ) from other companies and you can tell if it's good for drifting or racing or it's not worth to buy it's also very important to have a good wheel even for a beginner ( rookie ) to learn and gain experience
There should be 2 mounting holes under the shifter (you can see them at the :55 mark). Those are more stable when only using 2 bolts, and I would guess are the intended bolts for the table clamp (I do not have the table clamp, and hard mounted the shifter to my rig). Using the holes underneath would also move the shifter closer you. I don't think the side mounting slots are designed to be bolted down from one side
Hey goosiest, I have an "aftermarket" shifter as well that I think you could love yo try! SHH shifters (3d printed) but it feels pretty similar to a tp8h! Does sequentiel and H pattern which was a huge bonus for me for rally games. It was CAD $100 so about $80 USD!
I also have one and it's honestly great. It's adjustable, it feels great to shift and the 2 in 1 shift mechanisms is awesome as well. You can get different top plates like 5MT, 6MT and 7MT and the build quality is very good for the price.
I've been using mine for close to two years. I have the 7speed version in black. I absolutely love it. Feels like a chassis mounted shifter in a bmw. And man the clunk is sooo good! Hope you enjoy yours buddy!

litterally use the same shifter. bought the clamps for 60 cents at a hardware store. installed it right next to my leg in a more natural position. really love it
I've had that shifter for about a year and it still works perfectly and we bolted it to the setup instead of needing a clamp so for me it was very worth it
I bought one too! 7+R so clunky loud, already changed a gear knob, I'll try to put a shifter cloak on it in the name of reduce noise, 7 speed is useless because most car is 6 speed H-pattern, 7 speed and above is sequential(not counting camaros). So my point is to get a 6 speed is good enough, even for truck simulator you only need 4 or 5 range with splitter and range selector, often mis-shift but for 40$ I love it a lot! ETS2 and PCARS2 is working, WRC9, ForzaH4, NFSHEAT and TCREW2 not working. Compatibility is yet to be improve.
I have had one of these for about a year now, be warned if you order one of these also order extra gate plates for the top, if you do hard driving like technical courses in dirt rally and you're always banging up and down the gates eventually start to delaminate and break apart, Great shifter though, feel in the hand beats the brakes off the TH8A or G29 shifter

using this shifter for about a year now. no problems at all. plus that white plastic thing makes this shifter into a sequential shifter in few seconds. So defenatly better, than thrustmaster shifter
If you're using a Logitech wheel, this could actually be an upgrade over the stock Logi shifter. I use a Simvertex Eaton Fuller truck shifter knob for ETS2 and ATS that is way too heavy for the flimpsy Logitech shifter. Like, you could literally blow on the shifter and it will go into the next gear. I will give this thing a try if it is as sturdy as you say.
