Thanks for this comparison video! I have the Venu 2 Plus - its a pretty great watch and I find the data it delivers to be very on point. I thought I wanted (needed?) some of the more robust app store features, advanced sleep tracking, etc that Samsung was advertising. Turns out - from my own testing as well - that a lot of what Samsung said was in indeed marketing. Not necessarily reality. The poor battery life on this newer GW 5 has been the most disappointing. I liked your side-by-side video showing this. The Samsung drops battery like a rock out of the sky... The Garmin will EASILY support you on a 4 day weekend trip somewhere that you fly to. No bringing a charger with you necessary. I really wanted to like the Samsung - it is indeed a BETTER looking watch. But did I mention the battery life? I just don't need yet another thing I have to be mindful of and charging every day. I think my GW 5 will be going back. Maybe next year Samsung?
Thank you so much Cory! So did you say something about the battery life? Just kidding! You're spot on and the rock falling analogy suits this perfectly. And I hope Google's Wear OS will be better refined so manufacturers like Samsung can provide longer-lasting battery life on their watches.
I clicked on this video by mistake but found it entertaining. We purchased the Samsung for my wife ended up taking it back as it was slow and barely made it through a day which causes monitoring battery life pretty constant. With the GV2+ on the other hand this is not an issue what so ever and takes away all the battery anxiety associated with the Samsung. Garmin wins in all other categories also.
I actually got both to do myself a comparison and I can totally say that the Venu 2 is a LOT better. It's a lot more accurate and the battery last a lot LONGER. So, to me the Venu 2 is the winner.
To be honest with all of you, i have currently a Garmin Venu 2 Plus and i had back like 2 years ago a Galaxy Watch (first gen) and i was so happy about the features and everything going on there. Especially the Spotify Services were managed so much more well then on Garmin and that was a big point for me. Like the Spotify Connect on the Galaxy watches is just amazing, while the app on garmin really annoys me with only downloading the playlist (Especially when i listen to a lot of my liked songs what i can't download on my garmin apparently). Also the OS of the garmin just purely annoys me.. example, the puls widget, when i click on it, it opens up the stat and sometimes i wanted to swipe further to the right and see more history but then i just went back because the casual going back is the same thing as scrolling.. triggers me a lot ;) The overall Garmin Fitness thing is really cool, what samsung manages not the same way. overall i like both, but the samsung just stands out for me with the overall OS and apps etc. while the garmin also stands out for their fitness features. CAN'T THEY JUST COOPERATE they would make the perfect watch seriously. but, not everything is possible. im gonna go back to the Samsung Watch and maybe after working with it for a few months, change my mind but yeah.
Got the V2P and I don't regret it so far. Before that one I had the Fossil and like all wear OS the battery was a damn dirty joke. True some of the draw backs of the V2P was the custom text nor can't you see pictures and lack of apps but honestly, I can live without those. The battery life and the much better sensors are a total game changer for me. The speaker is also pretty decent on mine.
Just additional information. The Samsung GW 5 40mm gets a barely adequate 32 hours of battery with very careful battery management. The size of the watch barely affects the display size but drastically affects battery life. But for some of us, the 44mm or the Pro @ 45mm are just too large, particularly with the watch band design sticking out unlike traditional watch bands. Yes, the functionality is there. But Samsung and Google need to really address the power consumption head on.
I am on Venu 2 and my Wife is on Style. It is deffective, so I am deciding to get her on Venu 2 Plus vs the Watch 5 44mm. The battery on Samsung is so mediocre. It can't really get up to 3 days? Let's say the only things she would be using would be steps, heart-rate and time display. The rest would be on-demand.
3 days is ok, but really most people can hardly get 2 days once they use more features. But like yourself, I prefer the longer battery life of the Venu 2 Plus and its more accurate sensors/algorithms.
what about alarms and vibration strength to silently wake you or setting reminders on your Samsung calendar? I tried the Fit bit Sense after Ionic and was very disappointed.
You can get notifications like reminder on both watches Cathy, but when it comes to the vibration strength the Samsung watch doesn't have the strongest one. The Venu 2 Plus has been pretty good for me and for many months I've only used the medium intensity for alarms. Recently I changed it to highest intensity and I can only feel a small difference any difference, but overall pretty happy with the vibrations on the Garmin watch.
Question, though regarding the Venu 2. Do you happen to know if the sound/voice of an incoming call, if answered on the watch, will be directed to your headset or earbuds if you are wearing and actively using these as the call comes through? Trying to find a way of making sure how versitile the Venu 2 can be before i purchase, due to the fact you cant speak directly like with the Plus model. Thanks in advance!
Good question! You can connect your earbuds or headphones in the Settings > Music > Add new, to listen to music that's on your watch. But about getting calls, what you should do is to just pair them to your phone too so then when you answer the call on the watch you get the audio from your phone, because you still need to have your phone with you which means you really don't need to pair the earbuds to the watch for this purpose. But still take this with a grain of salt because I haven't tested the Venu 2 myself.
It doesn't work that way with my other garmin watches and I would be curious to know the answer to this question as well. I believe you can do this on the galaxy? For example I sometimes pair my watch to fenix 6 so I can listen to its music while hearing alerts from my garmin varia while biking. But when I get a call I then can't use my earbuds for the phone. I have galaxy buds and a galaxy phone but still can't find an easy to way to then pair to the phone from watch just for calls with the garmin.
Galaxy watch has still no stand up paddle profile as I know 😞 I wish some less expensive fitness tracker have more sport profiles and GPS so we can choose a smart watch a real sport watch or a simple tracker.
