I will never vote Tory but hand on heart if my preferred choice lost to a Rory Stewart led Conservative Party I would sleep easy.
Why? He voted for every nasty regressive policy the Tories supported. Never trust a Tory.
If I WAS going to vote Tory then I'd vote Stewart over Starmer.
Same here I’ve only voted for the tories once and I’ve regretted ever since he would be a great pm
Sensible.. has a moral compass.. honest .. Rory sure seems to be the real deal .. super smart ..😊🎉⭐️☮️
You say a tory mp for 9 years has a moral compass? Under david cameron and george osbornes austity? During mays debacle?
I enjoyed that Rory actually seems sane how refreshing😮
Could listen to Rory and Iain all day, excellent discussion.
The country/system is so seriously messed up that this man lost to Boris Johnson.
Rory please join Labour, we need people like you with integrity in government.
He would be great for labour. To me he’s like my old local MP sir teddy Taylor compassionate and listened to the publics concerns
For The Many is definitely the original and best one. I've been a listener since the pandemic. Listening to Jacqui and Iain is like catching up with two friends; very informative without being earnest or depressing. I hope they do more live shows in the North; i would love to go.
Political parties need more people like Rory to make them more relatable
Top Man is Rory.
That's a man?
@@stephfoxwell4620 and your point is?
@@denisesanders5589 Looks more like walnut on a stick.
@@stephfoxwell4620 O dear , what an infantile response. Run along now.
@@denisesanders5589 Don't like the little posh dude.
Makes my skin creep
What's amazing abou Rory, is that he admits is all a sham. Yet he thinks that's normal.
he also moans about Tory policy and yet defends it endlessly.
I really wish Rory wasn't a Tory. I would vote for him in a heartbeat.
And this is part of the problem.
It's a shame that people like Iain and Rory don't stand a chance in the current Conservative Party. They are exactly the kind of moderate thinkers that the party needs to recover itself and bring some order back to the chaos that Cameron, Johnson and the rest of them have created in the last decade.
No no no - a robust exchange in a work environment is not threatening to punch them - that is very near gross misconduct.
Rory is an absolute treasure to the country. He offers such a balanced, sensible view, even if I don't agree with all of his politics.
Definitely someone I enjoy listening to regularly.
Thanks
As an immigrant coming to the UK, the British in my head was Rory Stewart- smart, clean talker, honest, wildly read and travelled, a polyglot.
Here I am and the best performing party is run by Nigel Farage.😢
Define "best performing"? I'm not aware of any metric that shows your statement is true (but happy to be corrected!)
@@chr1srugby Really?
What party do you think would get the highest INCREASE in vote share?
The greatest gift this election will bring is that we can finally stop watching politics
Sounds like MPs could do with some workers protections
Those MPs should form a union.😁
@@redlightmax aye, a labour union if you will 😂😂
we can easily forgive a child who afraid in the dark.....
the real tragedy of life when men are afraid of the light
your corrupt Government......is the problem......
The conservatives have left Rory not the other way around
How different would our country be if Rory won the leadership contest rather than that buffoon Boris
Absolutely, the fact he lost to Boris tells you everything you need to know about the Tories
A great Interview but I rather think Rory is a great interviewee!!
As for Iain this was Iain being the Iain that I have a lot of respect for. (Sometimes he falls off those steady rails!!)
(Was there too may Iains above 😁)
Hunts not centre left!!
I assume he said ‘centre left’ of the Conservative Party. Rather than just centre left
@@michaelmccomb2594 even of the Tories I wouldn’t class him as centre left. Quietly spoken does not hide his right wing dogma.
@@yulithebrave He was fairly close with Cameron and May, refused to serve under Boris. Was seen as a moderate and safe pair of hands under Truss and a complete reversal of her more right wing economic policies.
I’d say he’s one of the more moderate members of the senior figures within the party.
Out of curiosity, if not Hunt, who would you define as the centre-left members of the cabinet/party?
@@michaelmccomb2594I read this comment before going to bed last night and thought I’d better have a think about it before responding.
It’s 12pm the next day. I can’t think of any Michael
@@stewbie5086 a lot the left of the party was purged by Boris - Rory, Hammond, Gaulke, Rudd.
But currently, I’d say Tom Tughenhart, Tobias Elwood, Damian Green, Robert Buckland, Victoria Prentis are now part of that wing or at least are One Nation Conservatives.
You worked for MI6
Rory was dying to get out of there. I think because Iain mentioned going on for another hour.
It’s a bit disingenuous to blame people calling for a fresh referendum for the hard BREXIT your colleagues gave us
Someone wasn't listening properly!! ⬆️⬆️
What Rory THINKS Conservativism is all about, is the blatantly demonstrable polar opposite of what it actually IS all about. So he's either extraordinarily naïve, or lying.
No he's just been left behind on the desperate march to the right. That's why Labour is hoovering them up. Dragging stuff back to the centre(ish). It isn't just the working class who feel politically homeless with this govt. Labour are playing a smart game. I hope.
I think he was speaking of conservatism and not the Conservative party. One Nation Conservatism does have a presence in the Conservative party; but I don't know how much currently. The conservative tradition of politics is way more broad and diverse than any particular party over any narrow span of time. I don't know enough about him; but my guess would be that Stewart is not a liar and is more concerned with running things (countries, charities, whatever) than he is with electioneering. So, maybe naive about some things? Or maybe just not as cynical as some folks; myself probably included.
@@dh1380 Look at his voting record. That's all I'll say.
The illusion is of course that prudence and respect for law and order ain't exclusively conservative ideas
@@BF-up5xw If you don't know much about him, please look at his voting record.
Rory is now a wannabe celeb
He's earning his money honestly, unlike the vast majority of his "former colleagues"
