He meant he is not taking sides in the cause of the initial fall out and disagreement.
But the actions following the fallout is what he is evaluating.
In other words, two people fell out for xyz reason, but if your post actions are fueling the beef by antagonizing and bringing in others to gang up against the other person instead of trying to de-escalate and respectfully communicate to gain understanding between each other , then the authenticity of the friendship from your end becomes questionable.
